Preparation of High-Efficient Oil-based Nanofluids and It's Application to the Transformer (고효율 나노절연유 제조 및 변압기에의 적용)

  • Oil-based nanofluids are prepared by dispersing spherical and fiber-shaped $Al_2O_3$ and AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. Two hydrophobic surface modification processes are compared in this investigation. It is obvious that the combination of nanoparticle, surfactant and surface modification process is very important for the dispersity of nanofluids. For ($Al_2O_3$+AIN) particles with 1% volume fraction, the enhancement of thermal conductivity and convective heat transfer coefficient is nearly 11% and 30%, respectively, compared to pure transformer oil. The cooling effect of ($Al_2O_3$+AlN)-oil nanofluids on the heating element and oil itself is confirmed by a natural convection test using a prototype transformer.

The Effects of Sc on the Microstructures of Hypereutectic Al-Si Alloys (과공정 Al-Si 합금의 미세조직에 미치는 Sc의 영향)

  • Sc has been known to be an very effective ppt-hardening element in Al and Al alloys and also to be effective in modification of eutectic Si in hypoeutectic Al-Si alloys. The modification mechanism of Sc is different from that of the traditional modifier Sr in Al-Si alloys. In the present study the effects of Sc on the primary and eutectic Si in hypereutectic Al-Si alloys were investigated with evaluating the microstructures with OM, EPMA and EBSD methods. The results represent that Sc has only a small effect on primary Si when added less than $0.8wt\%$. However, when Sc addition leading to the precipitation of metallic Sc within primary Si reaches $1.6wt\%$, very coarse primary Si occurs.

  • Wood Polymer Composites(WPC) have attracted significant attention because of ecological and environmental concerns. However, the structure of Wood Flour containing many hydroxyl groups(-OH) reduces the interface adhesion to Phenol-formaldehyde(PF) and it decreases the mechanical properties of the PF/Wood Flour Composites. The present work involves the modification of Wood Flour using silanes reinforced with Phenol-formaldehyde to enhance the mechanical properties of the composites. The spectroscopic properties of the composites were analyzed using FT-IR, XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) and the mechanical properties i.e., tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength were studied. We confirmed the modification effect of silanes by spectroscopic analysis, and the mechanical properties of the composites using wood flour modified by silanes were significantly improved.

  • The effects of scandium addition on the Al-6Si-2Cu Alloy were investigated. The Al-6Si-2Cu-Sc alloy was prepared by gravity die casting process. In this study, scandium was added at 0.2 wt%, 0.4 wt%, 0.8 wt%, and 1.0 wt%. The microstructure of Al-6Si-2Cu-Sc alloy was investigated using Optical Microscope, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, Electron Back Scatter Diffraction, and Transmission Electron microscope. The microstructure of Al-6Si-2Cu alloy with scandium added changed from dendrite structure to equiaxed crystal structure in specimens of 0.4 wt% Sc or more, and coarse needle-shape eutectic Si and β-Al5FeSi phases were segmented and refined. The nanosized Al3Sc intermetallic compound was observed to be uniformly distributed in the modified Al matrix.

  • A lot of studies on the summary measures of predictive strength of categorical response models consider the likelihood ratio index (LRI), also known as the McFadden-R2, a better option than many other measures. We propose a simple modification of the LRI that adjusts for the effect of the number of response categories on the measure and that also rescales its values, mimicking an underlying latent measure. The modified measure is applicable to both binary and ordinal response models fitted by maximum likelihood. Results from simulation studies and a real data example on the olfactory perception of boar taint show that the proposed measure outperforms most of the widely used goodness-of-fit measures for binary and ordinal models. The proposed R2 interestingly proves quite invariant to an increasing number of response categories of an ordinal model.

  • Generally, V/C ratio in uninterrupted traffic flow and average travel speed in interrupted traffic flow are utilized as measure of effect for assessing operational situation of roads. The set of road conditions and traffic conditions are considered to be major variables for assessing operational situation in the traffic flow. However, weather conditions such as rainfall also affect the operational situation of roads. The studies reflected by the rainy situation are conducted in the uninterrupted flow, but the related studies are insufficient in the interrupted flow. In this study, the modification factors during rainfall in the interrupted flow were suggested, and the factors could be used when calculating the average travel speed during rainfall in the interrupted flow. By utilizing the data that were investigated in the same road and traffic conditions and the different weather conditions (rainy day or clear day), the modification factors were founded on regression analysis of the travel speed during rainfall as a dependent variable. Modification factors was suggested in dividing peak time, non-peak time, and whole period. Based on this study, the modification factors can be used to complementing the average travel speed model for assessing the operational situation of urban streets during rainfall.

  • The present paper describes the scale effect correction method for wind turbine by using CFD(computational fluid dynamics). For the correct ions of wind turbine scale effect, various researches on the helicopter rotor scale effect were Investigated and feasibility study of methods was performed to correct wind turbine scale effect The present paper also introduces new scale effect correction method based on two dimensional lift slope modification. In order to test the Present method, performance analyses of NREL Phase VI wind turbines under various scale conditions were carried out by using CFD. The present method showed reasonable results when applied to NREL Phase VI wind turbine.

Suppression Techniques of Subthreshold Hump Effect for High-Voltage MOSFET

  • In this paper, simple but very effective techniques to suppress subthreshold hump effect for high-voltage (HV) complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology are presented. Two methods are proposed to suppress subthreshold hump effect using a simple layout modification approach. First, the uniform gate oxide method is based on the concept of an H-shaped gate layout design. Second, the gate work function control method is accomplished by local ion implantation. For our experiments, $0.18{\mu}m$ 20 V class HV CMOS technology is applied for HV MOSFETs fabrication. From the measurements, both proposed methods are very effective for elimination of the inverse narrow width effect (INWE) as well as the subthreshold hump.

Flickering Effect Reduction Based on the Modified Transformation Function for Video Contrast Enhancement

  • This paper proposes a method that reduces the flickering effect caused by A-GLG (Adaptive Gray-Level Grouping) during video contrast enhancement. Of the GLG series, A-GLG shows the best contrast enhancement performance. The GLG series is based on histogram grouping. Histogram grouping is calculated differently between the continuous frames with a similar histogram and causes a subtle change in the transformation function. This is the reason for flickering effect when the video contrast is enhanced by A-GLG. To reduce the flickering effect caused by A-GLG, the proposed method calculates a modified transformation function. The modified transformation function is calculated using a previous and current transformation function applied with a weight separately. The proposed method was compared with A-GLG for flickering effect reduction and video contrast enhancement. Through the experimental results, the proposed method showed not only a reduced flickering effect, but also video contrast enhancement.

Influence of Bethanidine on Pressor Actions of Norepinephrine and Tyramine in the Rabbit (Bethanidine의 Norepinephrine 및 Tyramine의 승압 효과에 미치는 영향)

  • An influence of bethanidine (B) onpressor effects of norepinephrine (NE) and tyramine (TR) was investigated in the whole rabbits. B, in a dose 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mg/kg, i.v., potentiated significantly the pressor effects of NE and TR. Reserpine and desipramine did not increase the NE effect that had been potentiated by B.B also made little modification of NE effect that had been potentiated by reserpine and desipramine. B increased the NE effect that had been potentiated by tranycypromine and guanethidine. The NE pressor effect potentiated by B was decreased by tranylcypromine, but not influenced by guanethidine. The TR pressor effect potentiated by B was not altered by reserpine and guanethidine, but decreased by desipramine and tranylcypromine. B increased the TR pressor effect that had been potentiated by guanethidine. B, when given after administration of reserpine, tranylcypromine or desipramine, exerted little influence on the TR effect. The mechanism of potentiation of NE and TR pressor effects by B seems to be similar to guanethidine, and the potency of B on the influence of NE and TR effects seems to be greater than guanethidine.
