  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between socioeconomic status, maternal involvement in learning, parenting behavior and children's self-determination motivation. The participants of this study consisted of 333 fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school children and their mothers living in Seoul. The results of this study indicated that mothers with a higher educational attainment reported greater autonomy support behavior and involvement in their offspring's learning. Conversely, mothers with low incomes were found to use psychological control and were also found to be involved in learning to a lesser degree. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that children whose mothers were less involved in learning showed higher levels of self-determination motivation. Additionally, maternal support for autonomy and psychological control had a number of moderating effects on the association between maternal involvement in learning and the child's self-determination motivation. Specifically, children tended to exhibit significantly lower levels of self-determination motivation when mothers were more involved in learning among those who received less support in terms of autonomy. Conversely, children had significantly higher levels of self-determination motivation when mothers were less involved in learning when it came to those children who were under less psychological control.

  • The present work aimed to present the development of 'Funt', the augmented reality-based digital app as an educational tool for foreign language learning. Our work further evaluated the learning efficacy of the tool by the assessment of the three dependent measures including learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and learning involvement. With a learning app of 'Funt', students can use AR app to access recognition-based or location-based experiences such that any objects, artifacts, or media appear to be in the app. Students are then able to interact with the digital content by manipulating it to learn more about it. Students's engagement should also increase when they create their own experience in AR to demonstrate their understanding of a particular concept or words. Learning effects were evaluated on survey data collected from a hundred respondents aging six to nine years. One-group design for pre-test and post-test was utilized to examine the differences of learning efficacy by comparing the non-'Funt' group and the Funt group scores. A pairwise t-Test was performed for pairwise comparisons between two learning groups. The results indicate that the 'Funt' group scored significantly higher than the non-'Funt' group in the measures of learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and learning involvement. Overall, our results suggest that 'Funt' attracted the students' attention, provided them with a fun context to learn English vocabulary, and develop positive motivation and satisfaction towards vocabulary learning through AR technology.

  • Today, most of games permit interaction between user and game freely. Therefore it is difficult to progress the story-line of the primary stage. Especially in educational game surroundings, we have more difficulties in achieving original purpose of education. In this paper, we proposed the applied model of mini-game which was inserted into main-game in order to control interaction between user and game. On the basis of this model, we derived valuation elements by mini-game implementation types from developing the educational game in which involved mini-game. We looked around whether the educational game achieved the educational goal of first stage or not. Comparing with some excellent ones picked up by public authorities, we evaluated the educational game. As the result of evaluation, we could find that the application of mini-game had very high effectiveness in attainment of teaming goal, studying of well-balanced, and induction of learning motivation.
