The purpose of this study was to examine how the Lakatos method works in the elementary teacher education program. Elementary preservice teachers were given a task in which they examined the Pick's theorem. The finding revealed that Lakatos method was usable in the elementary teacher education. They produced initial conjecture and found counterexamples, and finally made improved conjectures. These experience encourage them to change their belief of teaching and learning mathematics and to find alternative ways of teaching mathematics.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution era requires people to have the ability of integrated thinking, critics, sensitivity, and creativity in an integrated manner. Therefore, teaching methods are expected to become more suitable for the trend. In this belief, current teacher-leading education method should move to students' self motivating one and consist of programs in which students voluntarily involve. In this reason, this study suggests FPBL educational method model that is combines project-based learning with flipped learning by analysing preceding research and digital painting tool class was designed by applying it. As a result of applying the designed class model to the class, all of the class satisfaction, effectiveness, and interaction were evaluated positively. Problems such as limitations of project classes due to non-face-to-face classes, large amount of learning before class, and reduced concentration during class were found. Therefore, when the FPBL class model is conducted non-face-to-face, it will be necessary to further strengthen the role of the instructor, provide lecture videos summarizing the core contents, and improve concentration by providing active participation and fun using various digital tools. The result of the study looks significant by confirming the possibility of applying FPBL model not only in design education but also other educational settings.
This paper explored the effects of extensive reading (ER) on Korean university students' L2 reading proficiency and reading rates. This study also illustrated how ER can be integrated into a university English reading class. Seventeen students who took a summer reading course participated in this study. Data were gathered through pre- and post- tests in terms of participants' reading comprehension proficiency and reading rates and post- questionnaire with regard to their attitudes toward L2 storybook reading after they have experienced it. The analysis was carried out using the Paired Samples t-test. It was revealed that ER has a positive effect on the enhancement of the participants' reading comprehension and reading rates. The participants showed their continued intention to read in English and a strong belief that persistent reading in English in the long run will help improve their English. The results of this study confirm the educational values of incorporating ER into university English reading classes. The pedagogical implications for EFL instructors are described.
The purpose of this research is to develop more effective and systematic courage-related education in the early childhood education field. Through the previous research and literature review, the concept of courage was redefined and the type of courage was derived. After choosing 25 pictures books which relate to courage, we analyzed using the type of courage and their features. The results were as follows. First, courage is an act of trying voluntarily and continuously according to established clear goals based on personal beliefs in order to overcome inner and external difficulties. Second, we divided the courage into five types - Physical Courage, Challenge Courage, Belief Courage, Social Courage, Creative Courage- and presented each characteristic. Finally, by analyzing 25 picture books on the theme of courage according to these types and characteristics, it was confirmed that these picture books can be an important basis for courage-related education and development of a courage scale.
This paper compares and analyzes mathematics teachers' understanding of students' mathematical comprehension after experiences with the Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) or the Development of Mathematical Ideas (DMI) teaching strategies. This report sheds light on current issues confronted by the educational system in the context of mathematics teaching and learning. In particular, the declining rate of mathematical literacy among adolescents is discussed. Moreover, examples of CGI and DMI teaching strategies are presented to focus on the impact of these teaching styles on student-centered instruction, teachers' belief, and students' mathematical achievement, conceptual understanding and word problem solving skills. Hence, with a gradual enhancement of reformed ways of teaching mathematics in schools and the reported increase in student achievement as a result of professional development with new teaching strategies, teacher professional development programs that emphasize teachers' understanding of students' mathematical comprehension is needed rather than the currently dominant traditional pedagogy of direct instruction with a focus on teaching problem solving strategies.
This study investigated the relationships among mothers' playfulness, play beliefs and rearing attitude. The participants were 261 mothers with young children. PSA(Playfulness Scale for Adults), PPBS(Parent Play Beliefs Scale), MBRI(Maternal Behavior Research Instrument) were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's productive correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: First, mothers' rearing attitude varied by mothers' age, employment status, and educational level. Second, there were significant correlations among mothers' playfulness, play beliefs, and rearing attitude. Third, mothers' playfulness and play beliefs were reliable predictors of rearing attitude.
The importance of values has been emphasized in the aspect of the cause and solution of environmental problems. It is suggested that educational programs designed to increase environmental concern should be focused on ecocentric values. To do this, it is a prerequisite to understand the level of learners'environmental value. This study measured the level of environmental values of students in secondary schools in Seoul and identified relationship with its variables such as belief, the degree of identification, and environmental experience. We discussed on how to improve the environmental education in the aspects of fostering ecocentric values from the results of this study.
This study explored father's proactive socialization beliefs as related to social behaviors of their children. The Subjects were 194 fathers and their 3- to 6-year-old children in Seoul. Instruments included 2 questionnaires : the Social Skills Questionnaire reported by fathers and Child Social Behaviors rated by teachers. Results showed that father's socialization beliefs varied in terms of the importance of social skills, the reasons why parents believe children acquire or don't acquire particular social skills, and the most effective strategies fathers hold for socialization of children. There were significant differences in father's proactive beliefs by sex of child, economic status, and fathers' educational level. Fathers who emphasized child's regulation of negative emotions had children showing low prosocial behaviors.
The purpose of this paper is to describe about the issues concerning student teachers' perceptions of ICT use and obstacles they experience during the teaching. Student teacher experience conflicts with ICT in particular, and lack of confidence in using ICT. Furthermore, pre-service teachers experience various conflicts while teaching during student teaching. Main conflicts student teachers experience are reported that their lack of confidence in using ICT, especially in front of the student body during the class, and firm belief on ICT and its effects. Student teachers lack systematic training during their professional development. As a conclusion, the teacher training programs need to have systematic approach in their curriculum to assist pre-service teachers to use ICT before their student teaching to give them first hand experience in classrooms.
Recently, Korea's interest in environment protection is increasingly growing, and Korea realizes the seriousness of environmental pollution and national movement to minimize the effect is arising. As part of the movement, the need of environmental education in elementary schools is on the rise. This study aims to develop integrated environmental experience programs allowing students to have experience activities in forests, rivers, and seas that they can approach easily around them and to have environmental education through various plays. In addition, the study purposes to compare general educational education programs in actual education in terms of the effect of the program on students' environment attitudes. This study was conducted to 50 fourth graders in two classes of S elementary school in Busan, and the 25-student comparative group had the normal educational education program that is mostly being performed in actual education while the 25-student treatment group had the survey on environmental attitude after a class using an integrated environmental experience program. The survey content is about environmental attitudes, and it consists of six subjects such as general environment, environmental pollution, energy, water resources, recycling, and animal protection and has 7 or 8 items by each subject which is divided into eight sub-items including sensibility, belief, values, spontaneity, criticism, patience, attention and interest. The findings are as follows. First, the integrated environmental experience program has a more positive effect on environmental attitudes than the general educational program. In particular, it is really effective about the topic of animal protection among students' environmental attitudes.
