  • This paper identifies GNSS education and training program under Geomatic field of study. GNSS education programs is evaluated $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ new-products. Data on Geomatic knowledge generation in the era of the GNSS derivatives over the 1975 - 2003 period are examined. The emerging trends and patterns; in particular for selected Asian nations will be dissected in detail. The knowledge indicator used in this study is the patent ownership against the background of emergence of new core technologies and innovations in the field of GNSS. Looking at the dismal performance of Geomatic professionals in terms of innovative activities in most part of Asian and Malaysia in particular, is it there is something that holding up these professionals from doing so? With our universities and numerous polytechnics offering Geomatic program, more is expected from them. Is it a problem of lack or inadequacy of skills? Or is it these professionals are too busy and being narrowly focused on doing something else?

  • Research in undergraduate mathematics education has been active very recently. The purpose of the paper is to investigate how college students make ion from some known informations about integer and rational numbers in algebra. Three college students were involved in the study. We analyze student's personal answers in order to find where their misunderstandings and difficulties come from based on the theoretical frameworks on mathematical understanding such as APOS-model and P-K-model. Finally we discuss about constructivist teaching ways for algebra and propose new paradigm for teaching undergraduate mathematics.

Questionnaires were collected from directors, teachers, and parents of private & public kindergartens, as well as child care centers, in Bucheon city. The data were analyzed based on the frequencies, $X^2$ test, F test, and Scheffe test. The results were as follows. (a) Most directors, teachers, and parents positively agreed with the eco-centered early childhood education and recognized its benefits. (b) In order for the eco-centered early childhood education to be successful, development of various programs, systematic study, ongoing teacher training, and parents' education were required. (c) In order for the eco-centered early childhood education to develop more culturally appropriate program, close connection with local community, reorganization of the early childhood education curriculum, and government support were needed. The findings demonstrate that eco-centered early childhood education is necessary for the future wellbeing of Korean society.

  • To evaluate the suitability of UML (Unified Modelling Language) in terms of educating novice software engineers, we have conducted a survey study with 102 students who were enrolled in a mandatory course for sophomores in computer science and engineering department. The results indicate that UML 1) has high satisfaction rate among software novices as an education material, 2) improves computational thinking and problem-solving skills, and 3) increases the efficacy of learning when the education program is implemented in the order of UML, programming practice, and physical computing. This paper suggests the applicability of UML as a new education paradigm in software education.

  • Understanding mutual impacts between the ocean and human beings is integral to sustainability of the Earth. Ocean literacy, therefore, is placed as a new paradigm of marine education in North America and Europe. Reflecting this movement, it is necessary for Korean marine educators to discuss conceptualization and future directions of Korean marine education. We reviewed marine education of North America as well as Korea in the domains of formal and informal marine education. We provide the definition, goal, and future recommendations for Korean marine education.
