The Development of Composition Model for Engineering Education Program of Elementary and Secondary School (초·중등 공학교육 프로그램 구성 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data and guideline to STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) educators who prepare engineering education in elementary and secondary school. For this, this study develops a composition model for engineering education program of elementary and secondary school. To do this, a literature research, experts interview and Delphi survey were conducted. Through the literature research, we extracted the components of model for engineering education program of elementary and secondary school and then made a first draft of the model. The draft was revised by experts while Delphi survey was used to validate the model based on Delphi panels' opinions. The panels for the Delphi survey consisted of 51 experts in the STEM education field. The survey was conducted three different times and importance survey was included in the third stage. The conclusions of this study were as follows: First, the model consist of definition, 4 directions, 4 characteristics, 3 educational goals according to school level, educational contents area and element, teaching and learning method and evaluation method. The educational contents area and element consist of 2 major areas, 7 areas and 18 elements. Second, all components of the developed model were valid in most of the statistics such as mean, standard deviation, the degree of consensus and convergence, and CVR(Content Validity Ratio). Third, importance for education contents area and element according to the school level are analyzed.

  • Most schools and educational institutions, as well as most companies, show willingness to teach CPR. However, as an essential element for the health care workers, this study aims to analyze the appropriate timing of education and improvements to the education, focusing on those who have trained for CPR. The survey was conducted for only those who applied for CPR education regardless of their profession in medical institutions. There were 105 males and 93 females by gender, and an average of 198 females were 33.5 years. The difference in CPR education depending on individual characteristics showed a high demand that all research subjects' gender, age and marital status should be improved to a practical education. During the education period, the efficiency of CPR was high. It is expected that the education of CPR will be used for the improvement of the training cycle and the training content since it is the enhancement of the performance capabilities that require practical application.

A Study on the Analysis of Research Trends in Korean Education (한·중 한국어교육 연구 동향에 대한 비교 분석)

  • This thesis is an analysis of research topics among doctorate research papers in Korean education from 1990 to 2016. The purpose of this paper is to keep up with current trends of Korean Language Education research in South Korea and China. The study aims to provide relevant information to researchers majoring in Korean language education and to determine future directions of Korean language education. In this study, among a total of 1709 Korean and Chinese studies of Korean language education, a final selection of 444 doctoral thesis (which consist of a total of 389 papers in Korea and a total of55 papers in China) were chosen from 1990 to 2016. The final selection of 444 papers was classified by year, topics and methodologies with a detailed analysis of the content. In addition, a detailed analysis of future directions and challenges for Korean education within South Korea and China is provided.

Education Method for Basic Programming Subject through Physical Computing (피지컬 컴퓨팅을 통한 기초 프로그래밍 교육 방법)

  • As the connection between objects and computers becomes easier, learning using physical computing is presented as a good alternative to solve the problems raised in programming education for beginners. In this paper, we propose a training method that can be applied to basic programming courses for beginners. To do this, we will proceed with a basic programming lecture based on the physical computing method. Currently, physical computing courses focus on various input sensor connection methods and output device control. However, the content of programming education using physical computing materials is lacking. In this paper, we proposed and tested a teaching method that is used in programming education by using low cost materials used in physical computing.

Development of Instructional Design Model and Checklist for AI Education (인공지능교육을 위한 수업설계모형 및 체크리스트 개발)

  • The purpose of this paper was to develop an instructional design model and checklist for AI education. Literature review was conducted to derive the structure of the instructional design model. And delphi survey was conducted twice to revise and improve the elements & items of the instructional design model and checklist and to confirm the content validity of both instructional design model and the checklist. As a result, an instructional design model consisting of three main steps(Analysis - Design & Development - Implementation & Evaluation) was suggested with a detail checklist which explained what teachers need to do in each step of this instructional development model when they prepare AI education using this instructional design model. Limitations and suggestions for further studies were presented at the end of this paper.

  • This study aimed to identify challenges faced by occupational health and safety education institutions to derive and propose methods of improving occupational health and safety education. To achieve this, 13 personnel responsible for occupational health and safety education institutions were interviewed, resulting in the identification of 14 areas for improvement. Consequently, a survey was developed and conducted among 107 individuals from 195 occupational health and safety education institutions. The priorities of the 14 items were analyzed using methods such as the content validity ratio (CVR), paired t-test, locus for focus model, Borich's needs assessment, and effect size (Cohen's d). The research results highlighted significant challenges, including the importance of mitigating abnormal competition among occupational health and safety education institutions, improving awareness among employers and workers regarding the importance of occupational health and safety education, and developing programs that satisfy customer demands.

The Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Science Talented Education--The Case of Chonnam National University (과학영재교육의 목표와 실제-전남대학교 과학영재교육센터 프로그램)

  • The purpose and content of Chonnam National University Center for Science Talented Education program and students' responses were described. The program was developed with the purpose of providing various learning opportunities for science talented students according to the level of their learning abilities. Students are given a variety of activities based on their potentials and interest. The program was developed in four subjects, such as mathematics, information science, science Ⅰ (physics and earth science), and science Ⅱ (biology and chemistry). Each subject consisted of simple inquiry, advanced one, and project, even though it had its own distinctions. Students were selected for each subject based on two criteria, that is, achievements in school science or mathematics (the upper 3 percent of the 8th grade students) and examination scores. Means and standard deviations for each subject were as follows: 51.8 and 13.3 for Science Ⅰ, 53.1 and 13.9 for Science Ⅱ, 36.7 and 10.7 for mathematics and 36.4 and 12.5 for information science. Thirty hours of summer classes were performed, and a survey was administered to obtain students' responses concerning difficulty, interest, teaching and content of the program. They gave relatively favourable responses in most area, but lack of time for studying was revealed in mathematics and information science. Further study in needed to get detailed and more accurate results of our program.

The Characteristics of Summarized Activities using Science Notebook for Elementary School Science Gifted (초등과학영재의 과학 노트를 활용한 정리활동 특성분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the writing styles and features of science writing by using science notebook for elementary school science gifted. The subject of this study was 37 sixth grade elementary school science gifted in P city. The preliminary 1 hour instruction was conducted to explain the usage of science notebook. The summarized activity using science notebook was conducted for 20 minutes following 4 hour lesson. These activities were performed for 8 times. As the result of this study, in The content which is learned today (main learning content)' which is one of components of science note, the writing appears the most frequently in external expression types and features of scientific writing, followed by writing+drawing, drawing, cartoon, writing+cartoon, mind map, table. Science writing which uses inductive thinking appears the most frequently in internal expression types and features of scientific writing, followed by deductive thinking, creative thinking. Among the components of science note, 'thinking and feeling', 'question,' 'one's own thinking of question' which are the components of science note promote the reflective thinking of elementary school student gifted for science.

Trends in Education Welfare Research in Korea (한국 교육복지 연구 동향)

  • This article aims to investigate the trends of Education Welfare researches in Korea. For this study, a content analysis was employed in relation to topics, targets and methods of 596 articles, masters and doctoral thesis published from 2003 to 2012. The results reveal that the papers have expanded to adjacent fields. The analysis of the topics shows that institutionalization papers have decreased, on the other hand, researches on the role of the social worker showed an increase. Middle school students were the most common target and quantitative methods were the most used. In future, multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary researches presenting a wide diversity of topics and targets should be considered.

Teachers' Perception and Attitude on Corporal Punishment : Application of Qualitative Content Analysis Method (체벌에 관한 교사들의 인식과 태도 : 질적 내용분석)

  • The This study attempted to analyze what perception and attitude teachers have on corporal punishment. For these purpose, 458 writings about corporal punishment that 140 teachers loaded on web-site were collected and were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. : First, each writing was open-coded according to specific theme or meaning relating to corporal punishment using Nvivo program. Second, coded materials were classified as a high category when having similar theme or meaning. As a result of this process, 2 highest categories, 6 high categories and 24 subcategories were yielded. Teachers with positive view on corporal punishment tend to think that corporal punishment has some educational values or usefulness and their views were classified as very positive view, limited-permissive view, and inevitable view. They thought that corporal punishment were closely related to teachers' authority. Teachers have negative views on corporal punishment on the basis that corporal punishment causes side effects, is contrary to essentials of education, violates human rights etc. Negative views that teachers have on corporal punishment were classified as absolutely negative view and negative view focused on side effects. They thought that corporal punishment were not related to teachers' authority. Comments have been made on positive view on corporal punishment from the perspective of reflective analysis and implications of the results on theory and practice were discussed with comments on research limitations.
