What Feminist Mathematics Education tells to South Korea?

  • I examine the discussions of studies related to feminist mathematics education and the implications of mathematics education in South Korea. In particular, I attempt to answer the following questions through literature reviews on feminist mathematics: What is the epistemological background of feminist mathematics education? How is feminist mathematics education defined and implemented? What does feminist mathematics education suggest in South Korea's mathematics curriculum? From the analysis of the literatures, I found that feminist mathematics education reflects not just the rights of female's rights but also a paradigm shift in epistemology of mathematics and philosophy of mathematics education. In this regard, feminist mathematics questions the existing mathematics education related to the female students who were marginalized in the composition and delivery of mathematics. Feminist mathematics education points out that in the course of the transfer of mathematical knowledge in schools, female students understand unilateral information procedurally without understanding the concept. Mathematics educators should consider alternative curricula that reflect the views of female students regarding the nature of mathematics. Students should be able to receive equal mathematics education in a school regardless of their gender. In this case, equal mathematics education refers to education methods that are suitable for both male and female students. The existing mathematics content and its teaching methods were designed based on the learning experiences of male students, which made them relatively difficult for female students to understand.

Dietary phosphorus deficiency impaired growth, intestinal digestion and absorption function of meat ducks

  • Objective: An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary non-phytate phosphorus (nPP) deficiency on intestinal pH value, digestive enzyme activity, morphology, nutrient utilization, and gene expression of NaPi-IIb in meat ducks from 1 to 21 d of age. Methods: A total of 525 one-d-old Cherry Valley ducklings were fed diets (with 7 pens of 15 ducklings, or 105 total ducklings, on each diet) with five levels of nPP (0.22%, 0.34%, 0.40%, 0.46%, or 0.58%) for 21 d in a completely randomized design. Five experimental diets contained a constant calcium (Ca) content of approximately 0.9%. Body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), and feed to gain ratio (F:G) were measured at 14 and 21 d of age. Ducks were sampled for duodenum and jejunum digestion and absorption function on 14 and 21 d. Nutrient utilization was assessed using 25- to 27-d-old ducks. Results: The results showed ducks fed 0.22% nPP had lower (p<0.05) growth performance and nutrient utilization and higher (p<0.05) serum Ca content and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. When dietary nPP levels were increased, BW (d 14 and 21), BWG and FI (all intervals), and the serum phosphorus (P) content linearly and quadratically increased (p<0.05); and the jejunal pH value (d 14), duodenal muscle layer thickness (d 14), excreta dry matter, crude protein, energy, Ca and total P utilization linearly increased (p<0.05); however, the serum ALP activity, jejunal $Na^+-K^+$-ATPase activity, and duodenal NaPi-IIb mRNA level (d 21) linearly decreased (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results indicated that ducks aged from 1 to 21 d fed diets with 0.22% nPP had poor growth performance related to poor intestinal digestion and absorption ability; but when fed diets with 0.40%, 0.46%, and 0.58% nPP, ducks presented a better growth performance, intestinal digestion and absorption function.

Against this backdrop, flower design is expected to be a promising industrial sector with high growth, high value added and high job creation effects.   • This research aims to identify current issues of arts education programs which have designed for North Korean Refugee Youth in South Korea and then navigates further steps to better serve the group. The purpose of study also pertains to the '2010 Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education' announced at the Second World Conference on Arts Education, particularly, to the third Goal indicating how arts education practices can contribute to resolving social and cultural issues and promoting social cohesion and intercultural dialogues (UNESCO, 2010). This research engages with critical theory approach and adopts qualitative content analysis for collected documents and interview data. Based on the findings of this research, interview participants found its need of current arts education program for North Korean refugee youth become more value-driven and participant-centered. Currently, those programs available seem to incline to helping their adjustment to the South Korean society through arts-related activities, such as enhancing Korean language skills and learning Korean culture. Rather, it has been addressed that providing emotional and psychological supports and opportunities to search their own 'voice(s)' should be core objectives of the arts education programs. Moreover, when it is offered, arts educators and administrators need to make sure that participants can feel safe and secure as being present at the space for programs in order to express and encounter their true inner voice(s).

University Professor's Experience and Demands of Online Teaching Method Content (대학 교수자의 온라인 교수법 콘텐츠 수강 경험 및 요구)

  • This study is aimed at identifying the possibility and effectiveness of teaching methods education for professors through the development of online teaching content and providing important implications for future online teaching content development and utilization strategies by looking at the differences in the experience and needs of professors who have taken online teaching content. A university surveyed 83 professors who took the seven teaching contents developed between 2015 and 2018, and took them from 2017 to 2019. As a result of the study, professors often took online teaching content for self-development purposes, were satisfied with the overall content, and cited the low psychological burden and resistance of education through personal learning, and the possibility of repeated learning online. The differences between importance and execution in content composition, the areas of statistically significant difference were easy-to-understand delivery, appropriate and sufficient examples, interest and motivation, facilitating interaction between learners, appropriate difficulty, reflection of current trends, appropriate presentation order and ethical composition. The importance level recognized by professors in the area was higher than execution level. In conclusion, opinions for improving online teaching content were appropriate and sufficient examples in the area of content composition, interest and motivation, and reflection of the latest trends. In the area of ease of use, there was stable playback, relay function, and location-independent.

Train induced dynamic response of a pedestrian tunnel under a four-track surface railway for different soil water contents

  • A reinforced concrete pedestrian tunnel is constructed under a four-track surface railway. Heavy rainfall and soil exposure to drying lead to soil with different water content throughout the year. A railway is an open utility that is subject to rainfall without control on the quantity of the water on it and when there is a tunnel under a railway, the water content of the soil around the tunnel is very influential. This research shows the effects of change of water content in the soil around a pedestrian tunnel under a four-track surface railway. The pedestrian tunnel and the soil block around the tunnel are modeled in 3D by the FEM and are studied under the vibrations induced by the moving trains on the four-track surface railway for different soil water contents and the effects of the soil water content on the dynamic behavior of the tunnel and the surrounding soil are demonstrated.

  • Content is often developed inconsistently in technical authoring environments, as new documents are created and existing documents are revised. The Darwin Information Typing Architecture(DITA) is an XML-based, end-to-end architecture for authoring, producing, and delivering technical documentations. The core of most advanced authoring and publishing systems is the concept of content reuse. In this paper, we describe to design and implement an authoring and producing system of different technical documentations for the accreditation programs of Engineering Education using DITA XML. It provide a content reuse method for accomplishing the improvement of content consistency and the speed-up of the production in technical documentations.

Exploring the Research Trend Changes on Convergence Education of Before and After 2011 in Science Education (2011년 전후의 과학교육분야에서의 융합교육 연구동향의 변화 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the research trend changes of convergence education since 2011 compared to the convergence education research that has been steadily continuing in science education. The trend in convergence education were investigated by comparing the number of publications, research subjects, research content, and topic linkages with previous studies, and using the network analysis method to check recent research trends. In the field of science education, the number of papers related to convergence education has been published more than 8.0% steadily, and it has been increasing since 2012, then decreasing again from 2015 and gradually increasing again from 2017. The subjects of study were high in elementary school students, while those in middle school, high school, and university students were low. While the number of in-service teachers increased, the number of pre-service teachers decreased, and the literature and public increased somewhat. In study content, effectiveness studies decreased, while development studies increased, and theoretical and perception studies appeared similar. In thematic linkage, the intra-science linkage was 23.9%, and the extra-science linkage was 76.1% and engineering/technology and art were high in extra-science linkage. In network analysis, elementary, science, STEAM, and program words have a high frequency of appearance and appear together with other words to lead the network. The educational implications of the research trend of convergence education will be more emphasized in the field of science education in the future, and in order to take root in the education field, research on secondary students should be more actively studied. In addition, it is necessary to move away from research on STEAM-centered program development and effects, and to increase research to establish the philosophical basis and theoretical of convergence education.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the education content that induce energetically the adolescent's participation and learning for the education of suicide prevention. In order to realize it, we suggested the novel education methods based on virtual reality and HMD (Head Mounted Display), and developed the prototype system. This study intends to evaluate the effect of the proposed prototype system as a new education method with experiment and survey. This approach can show us the different possibility of adolescent's suicide prevention education.

Development of an Economic Education Program Model for Young Children Related to Korean Seasonal Customs (세시풍속과 연계된 유아경제교육 프로그램 모형 개발)

  • This study developed a model economic education program for young children related to Korean seasonal customs. The model was developed via literature reviews and survey research concerning teachers’' recognition of ‘'early childhood economic education’', consultations with professionals in the field, and testing and modifying the program. The goals of the model program were: teaching children to understand basic economic concepts, helping children to develop an economic attitude that emphasizes interdependence, and acknowledging the importance of eco-friendly economic values. The model includes three educational areas and 21 content areas including understanding the concept of exchange, sharing and cooperation, and circulation with nature. This study also developed 37 early childhood economic education activities using the teaching and learning methods of experiencing nature, virtual experience, real life experience, and traditional games experience.
