  • In recent years, electric industries in many countries confront with a structural change in business and socio-economic environments. Since 1984, PUC and utilities in U.S.A. have adopted or developing competitive bidding systems, and this new procurement programs prevailing and restructuring the power markets. In Korea, government and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) invited the private sector to build and operate two 500 MW coal plants and two 400 MW LNG plants during 2001 - 2004. The plan also specifies basic concepts and conditions for the IPP projects such that new IPPs are selected through competitive bidding system with the purchased power price based on the avoided cost. In this study, the direction, guideline and scoring methods to Korean IPP bidding system are presented. Also, as a benchmark price and rates for purchased power, the avoided cost calculation models are developed, this study may contribute for the development of private power in Korea, and improve overall economic efficiencies of whole electric power sector.

  • A Study of Improvement in Reactor Thermal Power Measurement Method using Kalman Filter. The objectives of the safety analysis of nuclear power plants are to maintain the surface temperature of fuel and fuel cladding within limit value in case of Loss of Coolant accident (LOCA) so that it ensures the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. The new technique evaluating the reactor power and improvement of existing plant system increase the safety margin of nuclear power plant operation, and accordingly, economic effect will be anticipated. Hereby, 1 would like to introduce reactor power measurement method using Kalman filter that enables to calculate the reactor power more precisely combining the parameters, for example, turbine output as the 1 st stage pressure of high pressure turbine, and reactor power using energy equilibrium relation. It is expected that the new technique will enhance the accuracy of measurement of reactor power and maintain the reliability of nuclear power operation by increasing operational safety margin, and gain the economic benefit

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the economic validity of Ecklonia cava aquaculture business for raising fishing people's revenue. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the production of Ecklonia cava is estimated about 251 ton or more in Jeju. Second, the distribution structure of Ecklonia cava is not established, but Ecklonia cava is traded much more through bio or processing corporation than through fisheries cooperative like other marine plants. Third, the price of Ecklonia cava should be at least 1,729 won per kilogram under 4.04% of capital cost for economic feasibility of Ecklonia cava aquaculture business. Finally, the results of sensitivity analysis show that there is economic feasibility of Ecklonia cava aquaculture business when the price of Ecklonia cava is more 2,500 won per kilogram and the capital cost is under 8.0%.

  • Hydrogen is considered a key energy source to achieve carbon neutrality through the global goal of 'net zero'. Due to limitations in producing green hydrogen domestically, Korean companies are interested in importing green hydrogen produced overseas. The Middle East has high-quality solar energy resources and is attracting attention as a region producing green hydrogen using renewable energy. To build a green ammonia plant, optimization of the production facility configuration and economic feasibility analysis are required. It is expected that it will contribute to reviewing the economic feasibility of constructing overseas hydrogen production plants through preliminary economic feasibility analysis.

  • High pressure steam pipe in power plants is subjected to service conditions under which creep processes take place limiting the component's lifetime. To ensure a safe and economic operation it is necessary to get accurate information about the lifetime situation of single components as well as of the whole system. Careful evaluation is combined with FEM analysis, NDT, microstructure evaluation. Especially, 14MoV63 steel is used as material for main steam pipe for 30 years old power plants. In service inspections have shown an increasing number of cracks and creep cavities beside stress concentration parts. A detailed analysis came to the conclusion that lifetime has been consumed to a high degree, 80%level.

  • The problem of system reliability is very important issue in the nuclear power plant, because the failure of its system brings about extravagant economic loss, environment destruction, and quality loss. This paper therefore proposes a normalized scoring model by the qualitative factors order to evaluate the robust reliability of nuclear power plants under uncertainty. Especially, the qualitative factors including risk, functional, human error, and quality function factors for the robust justification has been also introduced. Finally, the analytical reliability and safety assessment model developed in this paper can be used in the real nuclear power plant.

  • Field experiments were carried out to establish economic threshold for com borer (Ostrinia furnacalis (Guen$\'{e}$e)) on waxy com plants by examining the number of adult insects caught in pheromone traps and the injury levels of waxy com which were artificially controlled. Adult com borers were lured into the pheromone traps during the whole growth period in five areas in Gangwon province including Chuncheon. The number of com borers trapped was the greatest in Chuncheon followed by Cheolwon and Hongcheon, and the same trend was observed for injury level of waxy com. Based on marketable yield data of waxy com plants related to the artificially-controlled injury levels at tassel stage, spray threshold was determined as the injury level of 11~15%, where the injury of com plants exceeded the economically admitting level.

  • Korea has recently constructed a number of renewable photovoltaic power plants in Jeolla province as an effort to provide environment-friendly energy. However, several problems appeared in the power plant locations because they were not appropriately chosen ignoring social-environmental perspectives. Consequently, locations of both currently existing photovoltaic power plants require an social and environmental evaluations. This study aims to provide appropriate photovoltaic power plants locations and evaluation of current photovoltaic power plants in Jeolla province. By presenting location analysis of photovoltaic power plants, this study would minimize environmental and social side effects regarding photovoltaic power plants. Kriging and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are applied as methodology. ANP generates correct weights in combining spatial data, so that the result would present optimal locations. In addition environmentally sensitive regions were excluded in the analysis process. The results show that South and West coastal areas have a number of appropriate locations for photovoltaic power plants. In addition, evaluating currently running photovoltaic power plant locations, total 23 out 81 are turned out to be inappropriately located. This study is expected to contribute avoiding social and environmental conflicts in photovoltaic power plant locations and present criteria in evaluating photovoltaic power plants.
