  • In this experiment, two inclusion levels (15 and 30% of diets, as-fed basis) of brown rice (BR) were tested against a control diet with 0% BR (51% wheat flour of diet). Six female Maltese (8~9 months age, initial mean body weight of $2.8{\pm}0.3$ kg) were assigned to treatments in replicated $3{\times}3$ Latin square design. Total tract digestibilities of DM, OM, acid hydrolyzed fat, CP and gross energy by dogs fed experimental diets responded quadratically (P<0.01 or <0.05) to BR inclusion levels. Similarly, quadratic responses (P<0.001, P=0.015) were observed for digestible energy and metabolizable energy values, respectively. Wet and dry fecal output also exhibited quadratic responses (P=0.006, P=0.014, respectively) but no differences were observed between control and BR 30% diets. Linear (P=0.008) effect was observed for fecal score in dogs fed BR, and fecal ammonia concentration increased linearly (P=0.001) in response to increasing BR inclusion levels. It seems that the increase in fecal ammonia concentration may be partially related to the decrease tendency (P=0.07) in short-chain fatty acid concentration. In this experiment, inclusion of BR in dog diet did not result in pronounced changes in the digestibility but in fecal score. Although inclusion of BR in diets showed profound positive effect on fecal score, it is confounded by the high inclusion level of poultry offal meal.

  • Changes in food preferences and dietary habits of Korean prone to decrease consumption of the traditional energy source, rice. The exceeding condition of rice production in Korea is now not only impacting on the profit structure of farmers but also threatening food security. Although there have been several efforts to increase rice consumption rate, by developing various processed foods using rice flour, grain hardness of rice has been the most significant limiting factor. In this study, we addressed the suitability of the Namil(SA)-flo1, a mutant rice line has floury endosperm, in terms of producing rice flour by using dry-milling method, which is lower cost and more eco-friendly than other available methods such as wet-milling. Rice flour of the Namil(SA)-flo1 exhibited superior physico-chemical characteristics to any other check varieties including the wild type, Namil, in terms of distribution of granule sizes and content of damaged starch.

  • Bio-based plastics containing the biomass content higher than 25 wt% have been considered as environment-friendly materials due to their effects on the reduction in the $CO_2$ emission and petroleum consumption as well as biodegradability after use. In this study, poly vinyl chloride, plant-derived plasticizers, by adding a biodegradable catalyst was observed a change in the biodegradability and physical properties. To produce the oxidative decomposition transparent bio film, which is broken down in the initial percent elongation and physical properties such as tensile strength, it was to test the safety of the product as a food packaging material. Poly vinyl chloride, primary plasticizer, secondary plasticizer, anti fogging agent, the combined stabilizer were mixed in a high speed mixer, then extruded using an extrusion molding machine, after cooling, winding, to produce a oxidative decomposition transparent bio film and the control film, with a thickness of $12{\mu}m$ through winder role. Mechanical properties tensile strength, elongation, and the maximum load elongation and biodegradation test. Transparent bio film produced by biodegradation catalyst is compared with the control film. Tensile strength and elongation of films were found to be no significant difference. Further, as a result of the biodegradation test for 45 days based on the ASTM D6954-04 method, biodegrability of film is 61.4%.

  • Cultivation of brown mushrooms, rather than that of white variants is preferred by Korean mushroom farmers, as the former are resistant to diseases. However, brown mushrooms were cultivated only in selective eco-friendly agricultural farms due to lack of consumer awareness. After providing information about brown mushrooms to respondents through a 1-minute video clip, a survey was conducted on social network service (SNS) to assess recognition and preference for brown mushrooms. A food evaluation was then conducted among 200 people randomly selected from the survey respondents. Most respondents (83%) had not encountered brown button mushrooms previously, and 98% of the respondents were willing to buy these mushrooms because they were "curious about its taste" (44%). In the food evaluation, 32% of the respondents found the brown button mushrooms to be delicious, 28% reported a good flavor, and 31% described a good texture. In addition, we confirmed that 95% of respondents were interested in purchasing brown mushrooms after sampling. Therefore, in the present study, we evaluated public perception, preference, and taste of brown button mushrooms, and confirmed that availability of information on nutrition and benefits s of mushroom consumption could induce consumers to buy brown button mushrooms.

  • Corrosion is the degradation of metals by reaction with the environment. It is difficult to completely remove. Corrosion proceeds rapidly after the protective barrier is destroyed, and several reactions occur that alter the composition and properties of the metal surface and local environments, such as diffusion of metal cations into the matrix, the formation of oxides, and local pH changes. The study of corrosion of steel and iron is of theoretical and practical interest and is receiving considerable attention. Acid solutions, which are widely used in industrial pickling, acid descaling, cleaning and acidification of oil wells, require the use of corrosion inhibitors to suppress corrosion attacks on metallic materials. Physical removal of rust requires expensive special equipment, and chemical removal of it can cause corrosion or shorten the life of the metal. In this study, an eco-friendly rust cleaner was developed using cosmetics and food materials by applying the concept of perm reducing agent and chelate, and applied to remove rust from industrial and hot water pipes and various industrial devices. As a result, it was found that rust cleaners remove rust more effectively and safely compared to conventional treatment methods. At the same time, the rust removal efficiency was 1.75 to 2.5 times better for industrial piping and 1.56 to 2.2 times better for boiler hot water than conventional methods.

  • A basic function of packaging is preservability, delivery, subdivision, aesthetic and serviceability on packaging. Originally, the function and necessity of packaging is on preservability, but today it is expending before. then packaging is focusing on sales promotion. Although it is hard to say production itself, it could does when it is made. also, it is important for product to be goods when packaging and its materials are identification on matching each other. The role of packaging design is a core factor that satisfy consumer a various of needs and wants. In the past, the role of food packaging design is just preservability and delivery on product. but then, nawaday it is asked a various role. Not only present products have to get inherency but also have added value. That is, advanced technologies, information, and richness from materials which are diversity for coming a extention of choice. currently, food packaging design shouldn't have stayed on just packaging which cover beautiful. Packaging design is a symbolic sign. It is importance for manager to do R&D, producing, and distribution, also for consumer who use and buy the product whether manager and consumer think package design is a main mediation. This day, food design pay attention to be asking consumer's a number of sensitivity. It is the reason that the package is importance and exist. This article is to examine preservability, delivery, subdivision, aesthetic, serviceability, and environmental orientation in order to develop and show a method and theories to find package design in food industry the reason that why sales promotion and its profit increase. Consequently, draw on the function of package design effects the benefit on product is distribution. • In this study, monokaryons of "Heukari" (Pleurotus ostreatus) and "Hosan" (Pleurotus pulmonarius) were separated to remove the cell wall, and a cross-species protoplast fusion was developed through chemical treatment with polyethylene glycol. The protoplast-fused PF160306 and PF160313 strains have a culture period of 10 and 2 days shorter than that of the "Heuktari" and "Hosan" cultivars, respectively. Furthermore, the growth of the strains was faster than that of the existing cultivars. The yield was 135.9 g per bottle, which was approximately 8% higher than that of the commercially available "Hosan" cultivar; however, it was not statistically significant. A growth survey was conducted after treatment at five temperatures (15, 18, 21, 23, and 25℃). The growth of the strains accelerated with the increase in temperature. However, at 21℃, the yellow color of pileus was the brightest. Band pattern, assessed using URP Primer 7, was similar to that of the "Hosan" cultivar. The DPPH radical scavenging capacity and polyphenol content were 62.5% and 43.5 mg/mL, respectively, for "Sunjung" and 65.7% and 49.9 mg/mL, respectively, for PF160313. Furthermore, the antihypertensive activities of the "Sunjung" cultivar and PF160313 were similarly high at 74% and 75%, respectively. In conclusion, cross-species hybridization via the protoplast fusion technique can be used for obtaining primary data for mushroom breeding to develop new varieties. In addition, the protoplast fusion technique might aid in expanding the market for yellow mushrooms.

  • This study aimed to investigate the impact of protease treatments on the yield of rice starch (RST) from frozen rice flours, and to compare the physicochemical properties of RST by alkaline steeping (control) and enzymatic isolation (E-RST) methods. Although the yield of E-RST, prepared according to conditions designed by the modified 23 complete factorial design, was lower than the control, the opposite trends were observed in its purity. E-RST (RST1, isolated for 8 h at 15℃ with 0.5% protease; RST2, isolated for 24 h at 15℃ with 1.5% protease; RST3, isolated for 24 h at 15℃ with 0.5% protease) with the yields above 50% were selected. Amylose contents did not significantly differ for the control and RST2. Relative to the control, solubilities were higher for all E-RST, but swelling power did not significantly differ for E-RST except for RST1. Although all E-RST revealed higher gelatinization temperatures than the control, the reversed trends were found in the gelatinization enthalpy. The pasting viscosities of all E-RST were lower than those of the control. Consequently, the enzymatic isolation method using protease would be a more time-saving and eco-friendly way of preparing RST than the alkaline steeping method, even though its characteristics are different.
