In simply supported composite beams, the neutral axis of the composite cross section is usually located near the top flange of the steel H-shape, so that the top flange does not impart much strength to the member. This suggests that omitting the top flange entirely could be a means to lower the cost of the beam without greatly reducing the strength. However, It is not easy for inverted T-shaped composite beam to construct and to apply continuous beam which has negative bending moment. As a result, it would get more workability and decrease capability of lateral buckling and local buckling, if the bottom flange of inverted T-shaped steel used as a form. Therefore. the objectives of this study are to investigate strength and behaviors of inverted T-shaped composite beam which web is encased by concrete and to grasp bending capacity and efficiency of composite by comparing and analyzing in test piece.
The induction heating is more efficient for a plate bending because of its easy operation and control of working parameters, compared with the heating by a gas torch. The existing axis symmetric analysis method could neither handle initial curved plates nor be used in the optimization of coil shapes because of its limit of an axis symmetric coil shape. But the proposed method using some discrete part models and analysis processes could overcome these difficulties and show more accurate results in temperatures and deflections of flat or curved plates with initial curvature than those in the existing axis symmetric analysis method. This method is composed of the multi-disciplinary analyses such as an electro magnetic analysis, a heat transfer analysis and a deformation analysis based on inherent strain approach per each step. Traditionally, the coil shape in the induction heating is circular shape and it needs the moving process along heating lines. To overcome this, the 'Long Type Coil' with some linear parallel coils was proposed. It did not need the moving process along heating lines and reduced the heating process time. The results of experiments were compared with those of the simulation.
Lightweight and flexible photovoltaic (PV) modules are attractive for building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) applications because of their easy construction and applicability. In this study, we fabricated lightweight and flexible c-Si PV modules using ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) front cover and shingled design string cells. The ETFE front cover instead of glass made the PV modules lighter in weight, and the shingled design string cells increased the flexibility. Finally, we fabricated a PV module with a conversion power of 240.08 W at an area of 1.25 m2 and weighed only 2 kg/m2. Moreover, to check the PV module's flexibility, we conducted a bending test. The difference of conversion power between the modules before and after bending shown was only 1.7 W, which showed a power reduction rate of about 0.7%.
In electric agricultural machine the gearhead is needed to convert the high speed low torque rotation motion generated by DC motor to lower speed high torque motion used by the vehicle. The gearhead consist of several spur gears works as reduction gears. Spur gear have straight tooth and are parallel to the axis of the wheel. Spur gears are the most easily visualized gears that transmit motion between two parallel shafts and easy to produce. The modeling and simulation of spur gears in DC motor gearhead is important to predict the actual motion behavior. A pair of spur gear tooth in action is generally subjected to two types of cyclic stress: contact stress and bending stress including bending fatigue. The stress may not attain their maximum values at the same point of contact fatigue. These types of failure can be minimized by analysis of the problem during the design stage and creating proper tooth surface profile with proper manufacturing methods. To improve its life expectation in this study modal and stress analysis of gearhead is simulated using ansys work bench software based on finite element method (FEM). The modal analysis was done to understand gearhead deformation behaviour when vibration occurs. FEM static stress analysis is also simulated on gearhead to simulate the gear teeth bending stress and contact stress behavior. This methodology serves as an approach for gearhead design evaluation, and the study of gear stress behavior in DC motor gearhead which is needed in the small workshop scale industries.
Coupling is a mechanical component that transmits rotational force by connecting two shafts. Curvic coupling is widely used in high-performance systems because of its excellent power transmission efficiency and easy machining. However, coupling applications change dynamic behavior by reducing the stiffness of an entire system. Contact surface stiffness is an important parameter that determines the dynamic behavior of a system. In addition, the roughness profile of a contact surface is the most important parameter for obtaining contact stiffness. In this study, we theoretically establish the process of contact and bending stiffness analysis by considering the rough surface contact at Curvic coupling. Surface roughness parameters are obtained from Nayak's random process, and the normal contact stiffness of a contact surface is calculated using the Greenwood and Williamson model in the elastic region and the Jackson and Green model in the elastic-plastic region. The shape of the Curvic coupling contact surface is obtained by modeling a machined shape through an actual machining tool. Based on this modeling, we find the maximum number of gear teeth that can be machined according to the contact angle. Curvic coupling stiffness is calculated by considering the contact angle, and the calculation process is divided into stick and slip conditions. Based on this process, we investigate the stiffness characteristics according to the contact angle.
As increasing demand on marine structures and skyscrapers, a deep shaft pile foundation is more to be used for the place having weak ground strength. Because heavy horizontal force is generally applied on upper part of pile foundation used in civil or architectural construction, steel pile is largely used with its high resistance to shear force and bending moment, and its capability to carry heavy loads. The steel pile has advantage in good constructibility, high applicability on site and easy handing, but has disadvantage in cost, more expensive than other material pile. This study is about the Composite pile that makes economical construction possible by reducing material cost of pile; using steel and PHC pile simultaneously while preserving the advantage of steel pile that large resistance to horizontal force and bending moment. A Non Welding connection method is applied to this composite pile and this method could reduce the cost and period of construction and could increase the quality of construction by solving the problem of current welding method and by improving the workability of pile connection. In this study, characteristics of driveability of non welding composite pile is analyzed prior to main project while the purpose of main project is proving the applicability of Non Welding Composite Pile by conducting various kind of loading test to analyze the characteristics behaviour of Non Welding Composit Pile and by verifying stability of non welding connection pile.
A slide-rail system is widely used in home appliances, furniture, mechanical rigs, and so many other applications; due to its high strength and performance for easy moving heavy objectives. In general, a pair of side slide-rails is set on both sides of a drawer to support and move it. So an unbalanced sliding motion can occur during opening and closing a drawer with pull and push force. To settle this problem, single central slide-rail having three collapsible rail-bodies was firstly proposed in this work. 'H'-beam shaped rail-body was newly designed to have enough bending and twisting strength. The experimental test showed that the proposed rail could be applied to large-size home appliances for easy moving drawer with heavy weight.
Flat plate is susceptible to punching shear failure at the slab-column connection, which may cause catastrophic structural collapse. To prevent such brittle failure, strength and ductility of the connection should be ensured. However, since it is very difficult to experimentally simulate the actual load and boundary conditions of the flat plate system, it is not easy to obtain reliable information and data regarding to the strength and ductility of the flat plate-column edge connection. In the present study, numerical studies were performed for edge connections of continuous flat plate. The results were compared with the existing experiments, and the variations of bending moment, drift, effective width around the connection were investigated. Based on tile findings of the numerical studies, the disadvantages of current design methods were discussed.
In this paper, we present a new, easy-to-generate system that is capable of creating virtual 3D tree models and simulating a variety of growth processes of a tree from a single, real tree image. We not only construct various tree models with the same trunk through our proposed digital image matting method and skeleton-based abstraction of branches, but we also animate the visual growth of the constructed 3D tree model through usage of the branch age information combined with a scaling factor. To control the simulation of a tree growth process, we consider tree-growing attributes, such as branching orders, branch width, tree size, and branch self-bending effect, at the same time. Other invisible branches and leaves are automatically attached to the tree by employing parametric branch libraries under the conventional procedural assumption of structure having a local self-similarity. Simulations with a real image confirm that our system makes it possible to achieve realistic tree models and growth processes with ease.
