  • The rise of crowdsourcing and web 2.0 opens plenty of opportunities for companies who want to exploit external sources of ideas for internal innovation. Utilization of crowdsourcing for product design and development has been attracting the attention of both enterprises and researchers. Many cases of implementation of crowdsourcing for product design and development such as: Threadless, FIAT Mio, Lego online Factory, etc., have made crowdsourcing a promising alternative source of innovative power. Although crowdsourcing gained access due to improved Internet access and web 2.0, it is little understood how the crowd, with respect to participation, behaves for any crowdsourcing project. To investigate this, we conducted an experiment on a real crowd of engineering related individuals to figure out the crowd participation pattern for various product design and development phases of a new product development project. The experiment results give a quantitative view of the participation of the crowd (i.e., crowd participation pattern) in various phases of a product design and development process that utilizes crowdsourcing, provide a practical guidance for companies to harness the power of the crowd sensibly, and provide experimental data for further research in this field.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of the scientifically gifted high school students to the research and education (R&E) program. 270 scientifically gifted high school students participating in R&E program were sampled and surveyed according to the R&E' purpose, the process of topic selection, the advantage, and disadvantage of R&E. 4 students among them were interviewed in depth. Students perceived the purposes and advantages of R&E as fostering the scientist' qualifications, providing the research opportunities, and improving the inquiry ability and the disadvantages of R&E as the time consumption in research, the participation as a sideline, and the difficulty of contents. The R&E program was mainly composed of a pre-determined topic, fixed procedures, and expert's settlements in the problem-emerging situation and was not cognitive but technical apprenticeship. In addition, students considered the participation of R&E as a chance of experience about the high techniques and the valuable instruments instead of the improvement on the creative problem-solving ability. The role of mentors in the R&E program is so important that it affects largely on the productive participation and the perceptions of science and scientists.

  • In the modern digitized data society, there is a growing emphasis on securing trustworthiness and fairness in data utilization, along with data openness. By defining the concept of data democracy from various perspectives and presenting elements of normative values, this study aims to provide a basic conceptual framework to identify and evaluate the data governance system and levels of data democracy. As a foundation for the discussion of data democracy, based on Kneuer's (2016) conceptualization of e-democracy, free and equitable access, e-participation, and e-government were introduced as core dimensions of e-democracy. To improve the quality of data governance and foster a better understanding and practical application of the concept of data democracy, this study takes a normative approach from the perspective of democracy. Inclusiveness, equity, participation, and democratic sovereignty are provided as core dimensions of data democracy. This study highlights the significance of data literacy in promoting data democracy. It proposes the creation and assessment of a curriculum rooted in the normative principles of data democracy within the field of library and information science for future investigation.

  • The purpose of this study was to prepare a student and education guideline by examining the college life satisfaction of students studying dental hygiene. Subjects were students going to dental hygiene-related department of three colleges in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas. College life and life satisfaction was examined at general characteristics. The following results were obtained. 1. Subjects included 35.7% of 1st grade, 33.4% of 2nd grade, and 30.9% of 3rd grade. In the health state, average accounted for the highest percent(76.9%); in the student's associates, a little for the highest percent(76.8%); and in the participation in clubs, no participation for the highest percent(77.1%). 2. For motives to select the dental hygiene, good employment after graduation accounted for the highest percent(61.0%). The highest desired employer was a dental clinic(33.5%), and the highest desired duration was a whole life(61.0%). 3. According to the grade, satisfaction was significantly different in social recognition, major in education, professor, facilities, professor-student, career, and college development(pE0.05). 4. According to the school record, satisfaction was significantly different in social recognition, major in education, professor, professor-student, career, college development, and general life(pE0.01). 5. According to the student's associates, satisfaction was significantly different in social recognition, major in education, professor-student, and general life(pE0.01). 6. According to the participation in clubs, satisfaction was significantly different in professor, facilities, college development, and religious life(pE0.05). In conclusion, as students were in the lower grade, made good school record, had happier associates, and participated in clubs more actively, their satisfaction at college life became higher. Accordingly, professors and school authorities should strive to examine students' actual problem and discuss and resolve them in order to help their effective school life.

  • The study examined the relationship between six broad personality traits(i.e., HEXACO; Honesty-humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness to experience), safety job performance, and traffic accidents of Korean occupational bus drivers. Based on the job performance model, we included safety participation as well as safety compliance as safety job performance. Analyses on the data from a total of 492 bus drivers showed that all HEXACO personality traits except Honesty-humility, were valid predictors for both safety compliance and safety participation. Honesty-humility was only related to safety compliance. Among the six personality traits, high conscientiousness and low emotionality were best predictors of safety job performance. As for traffic accidents, conscientiousness was a sole significant predictor. Furthermore, the mediation analysis showed that the effect of conscientiousness on traffic accidents was completely explained by safety compliance and safety participation. The implications of the current findings for practice and future research as well as the limitations of the current study were discussed.

  • Seismic design codes permit the use of Equivalent Static Analysis of buildings considering torsional eccentricity e with dynamic amplification factors on structural eccentricity and some accidental eccentricity. Estimation of e in buildings is not addressed in codes. This paper presents a simple approximate method to estimate e in RC Moment Frame and RC Structural Wall buildings, which required no detailed structural analysis. The method is validated by 3D analysis (using commercial structural analysis software) of a spectrum of building. Results show that dynamic amplification factor should be applied on torsional eccentricity when performing Response Spectrum Analysis also. Also, irregular or mixed modes of oscillation arise in torsionally unsymmetrical buildings owing to poor geometric distribution of mass and stiffness in plan, which is captured by the mass participation ratio. These irregular modes can be avoided in buildings of any plan geometry by limiting the two critical parameters (normalised torsional eccentricity e/B and Natural Period Ratio 𝜏 =T𝜃/T, where B is building lateral dimension, T𝜃 uncoupled torsional natural period and T uncoupled translational natural period). Suggestions are made for new building code provisions.

  • The proportion of software in the automotive industry is steadily increasing due to the rapid technological development of automobile E/E parts. Because the automotive E/E technology is now on the basis of intelligent automobile and advanced safety automobile technology. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of organizational capability (organizational resource capability and management capability), process capability (process capability, customer Requirement management capability), performance dimension (motivation, participation level). In this study, we conducted questionnaires and statistical analysis on engineers (members of the Korea Advanced Automotive Technology Association) who perform research and development activities in the R&D organization of the automotive E/E part in South Korea. ANOVA is applied for the verification of the difference in performance measured by organizational capability, process maturity, and motivation participation level according to company characteristics (level of processing : supply chain configuration, annual sales, total SW development ratio). According to the results of this study, in order to improve the performance of ASPICE or ISO 26262-related consulting project, a different consulting approach strategy considering the characteristics of organization and personnel is needed. In summary, the analysis results for the three main treatment levels are as follows. The difference in organizational capacity, process capability and performance was found to be statistically significant according to supply chain configuration and annual sales, but it was found that the difference of response according to the proportion of total SW was not significant.

  • KIPS is a net-world, cyberspace for scholars in Public Administration and Policy Sciences in WWW. All knowledge-intensive work has its core the publishing and debating of document. We have created a cyber forum for that work KIPS Cyber Forum has adapted ‘D3E’, the web-tool kit for non-technical users to easily debate and publish documents that exploit to the full networked interactive web media. And, for real-time communication, we added it the voice conferencing system. KIPS has opened Cyber Forum service in November 1998. The visitors on KWS Cyber Forum are increasingly growing, but the participants on the debate are a few. This means that the problems of Cyber Forum Service are not technical, but participation. The result imply that, at now, high participation of scholars on the debate is needed, at first, by the detailed guides for internet, www and relevant technical information. After that more expertly designed interface is to be important.
