Material model for load rate sensitivity

  • This work presents a novel model for analysis of the loading rate influence onto structure response. The model is based on the principles of nonlinear system dynamics, i.e., consists of a system of nonlinear differential equations. In contrast to classical linearized models, this one comprises mass and loading as integral parts of the model. Application of the Kelvin and the Maxwell material models relates the novel formulation to the existing material formulations. All the analysis is performed on a proprietary computer program based on Wolfram Mathematica. This work can be considered as an extended proof of concept for the application of the nonlinear solid model in material response to dynamic loading.

Time domain identification of multiple cracks in a beam

  • It is well known that the analytical vibration characteristic of a cracked beam depends largely on the crack model. In the forward analysis, an improved and simplified approach in modeling discrete open cracks in beams is presented. The effective length of the crack zone on both sides of a crack with stiffness reduction is formulated in terms of the crack depth. Both free and forced vibrations of cracked beams are studied in this paper and the results from the proposed modified crack model and other existing models are compared. The modified crack model gives very accurate predictions in the modal frequencies and time responses of the beams particularly with overlaps in the effective lengths with reduced stiffness. In the inverse analysis, the response sensitivity with respect to damage parameters (the location and depth of crack, etc.) is derived. And the dynamic response sensitivity is used to update the damage parameters. The identified results from both numerical simulations and experiment work illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • A direct treatment of the min-max type objective function of the dynamic response optimization problem is proposed. Previously, the min-max type objective function was transformed to an artificial design variable and an additional point-wise state variable constraint function was imposed, which increased the complexity of the optimization problem. Especially, the design sensitivity analysis for the augmented Lagrangian functional with the suggested treatment is established by using the adjoint variable method and a computer program to implement the proposed algorithm is developed. The optimization result of the proposed treatment are obtained for three typical problems and compared with those of the previous treatment. It is concluded that the suggested treatment in much more efficient in the computational effort than the previous treatment with giving the similar optimal solutions.

  • Vector control schemes are used in inverter-fed induction motor drives to obtain high performance. Crucial to the success of the vector control scheme is the knowledge of the instantaneous position of the rotor flux. However, the position of the rotor flux change with temperature and magnetic saturation of the motor. This variation cause deterioration of both steady state and dynamic operation of the motor drives. Performance degradation is in the form of input-output torque nonlinearity and saturation of the motor. Analytic expressions are derived to evaluate the effects due to parameter sensitivity. Also, dynamic response is shown by speed command with the variation of stator and rotor resistance.

  • It is main objective of this approach to present a method to analyse stochastic design sensitivity for problems of structural dynamics with randomness in design parameters. A combination of the adjoint variable approach and the second order perturbation method is used in the finite element approach. An alternative form of the constant functional that holds for all times is introduced to consider the time response of dynamic sensitivity. The terminal problem of the adjoint system is solved using equivalent homogeneous equations excited by initial velocities. The numerical procedures are shown to be much more efficient when based on the fold superposition method: the generalized co-ordinates are normalized and the correlated random variables are transformed to uncorrelated variables, whereas the secularities are eliminated by the fast Fourier transform of complex valued sequences. Numerical algorithms have been worked out and proved to be accurate and efficient : they can be readily adapted to fit into the existing finite element codes whose element derivative matrices can be explicitly generated. The numerical results of two cases -2 dimensional portal frame for the comparison with reference and 3-dimensional frame structure - for the deterministic sensitivity analysis are presented.

  • This paper deals with the application of sensitivity method to the parameter estimation for the dynamic analysis of gener-al mechanical system. In this procedure we take the derivatives of the given system with respect to a certain parameter and use this information to implement the steepest descent method.   • Sensitivity analysis of suspension elements of an articulated bogie for light railway vehicles is presented. The ride, stability and safety are used as dynamic performance indices. Suspension elements of 10 and a conicity of wheel are used as design variables. To analyze sensitivity of design variables. the railway vehicle dynamics analysis program AGEM is used. The results show that the secondary suspension elements have a strong effect on ride and the primary suspension elements have a moderate effect on ride. Conicity of wheel has a strong effect on the stability. The safety is not effected by all the design variables.

  • In small signal stability analysis of power systems, eigenvalue analysis is the most useful method and the detailed modeling of generator has an important effect to the eigenvalues. Generator full model is used for precise dynamic analysis of generators and controllers while two-axis model is used for multi-machine systems because of the reduced order of the state matrix. Also, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients are used for optimizing controller parameters to improve system stability. This paper compare the first and second order eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of controllers using generator full model with those of two-axis model. As a result of an example, the estimated eigenvalues using the first and the second eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients using generator full model is very close to those of state matrix. Also the error ratios throughout a wide range of controller parameters is less than $1\%$.

  • In this paper, the dynamic system modeling and the state sensitivity analysis of the spin-coater system for the reduction of the vibration are proposed. In the respect of modeling, the spin-coater system is composed of components of servomotor, belt, spindle, and a supported base. Each component is defined and combined modeling is derived to 3dimensional equations. Verification of modeling is verified by experimental values of actual system in the frequency domain. By direct differentiation the constraint equations with respect to kinematic design variables, such as eccentricity of spindle, moment of inertia, torsional stiffness and damping of supported base, sensitivity equations are derived to the verified state equations.   • This two-part paper presents a control method that allows for stable interaction of a robot manipulator with the environment. In part 1, we focus on the input ouput relationships (unstructured modeling) of the robot and environment dynamics. This analysis leads to a general condition for stability of the robot and environment taken as a whole. This stability condition, for stable maneuver, prescribes a finite sensitivity for robot and environment where sensitivity of the robot(or the environment) is defined as a mapping forces into displacement. According to this stability condition, smaller sensitivity either in robot or in environment leads to narrower stability range. In the limit, when both systems have zero sensitivity, stability cannot be guaranteed. These models do not have any particular structure, yet they can model a wide variety of industrial and research robot manipulators and environment dynamic behavior. Although this approach of modeling may not lead to any design procedure, it will allow us to understand the fundamental issues in stability when a robot interacts with an environment.
