A Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem with Outsourcing Options (아웃소싱을 고려한 병렬기계 일정계획 연구)

  • This paper considers an integrated decision for scheduling and outsourcing(or, subcontracting) of a finite number of jobs(or, orders) in a time-sensitive make-to-order manufacturing environment. The jobs can be either processed in a parallel in-house facilities or outsourced to subcontractors. We should determine which jobs should be processed in-house and which jobs should be outsourced. And, we should determine the schedule for the jobs to be processed in-house. If a job is determined to be processed in-house, then the scheduling cost(the completion time of the Job) is imposed. Otherwise(if the job should be outsourced), then an additional outsourcing cost is imposed. The objective is to minimize the linear combination of scheduling and outsourcing costs under a budget constraint for the total available outsourcing cost. In the problem analysis, we first characterize some solution properties and then derive dynamic programming and branch-and- bound algorithms. An efficient heuristic is also developed. The performances of the proposed algorithms are evaluated through various numerical experiments.

An Energy-Efficient Task Scheduling Algorithm for Multi Processor Embedded System by Laxity Estimation (멀티 프로세서 임베디드 시스템에서 여유시간 예측에 의한 저전력 태스크 스케줄링)

  • This paper proposes a scheduling algorithm that can reduce the power consumed for execution of application programs and the communication cost incurred due to dependencies among tasks. The proposed scheduling algorithm can increase energy efficiency of the DVS(Dynamic Voltage Scaling) by estimating laxity usage during scheduling, making up for conventional algorithms that apply the DVS after scheduling. Energy efficiency can be increased by applying the proposed algorithm to complex multimedia applications. Experimental results show that energy consumptions for executing HD MPEG4, MotionJPEG codec, MP3, and Wavelet have been reduced by 11.2% on the average, when compared to conventional algorithms.

Efficient Duplication Based Task Scheduling with Communication Cost in Heterogeneous Systems (이질 시스템에서 통신 시간을 고려한 효율적인 복제 기반 태스크 스케줄링)

  • Optimal scheduling of parallel tasks with some precedence relationship, onto a parallel machine is known to be NP-complete. The complexity of the problem increases when task scheduling is to be done in a heterogeneous environment, where the processors in the network may not be identical and take different amounts of time to execute the same task. This paper introduces a Duplication based Task Scheduling with Communication Cost in Heterogeneous Systems (DTSC), which provides optimal results for applications represented by Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), provided a simple set of conditions on task computation and network communication time could be satisfied. Results from an extensive simulation show significant performance improvement from the proposed techniques over the Task duplication-based scheduling Algorithm for Network of Heterogeneous systems(TANH) and General Dynamic Level(GDL) scheduling algorithm.

  • This paper presents a dynamic programming sucdessive approximation algorithm for scheduling pumped storage hydro plants and shows how this method can be coordinated with the commitment of the thermal units of the system. The general object of operation of pumped hydrostorage plants is the minimization of the overall production cost and the maximization of generation reserves. The basic procedure used to obtain a combined pumped storage-unit commitment schedule is to execute the pumped storage scheduler and unit commitment scheduler iteratively. A combined DPSA algorithm has been presented to coordinate the scheduling of the pumped storage with the scheduling of the thermal units.

  • For Video on Demand(VoD) servers, a design of an efficient scheduler is important to the support a large number of clients having various playback speeds and receiving rates. In this paper, we propose the scheduling algorithm to handle establishing deadlines and selection using the earliest deadline first. To establish deadlines and selections, the period of the receiving rates for each client is located between the over-max receiving rate and the over-playback rate. To avoid video starvation and the buffer overflow of each client, the proposed algorithm guarantees providing the admission control. Because of establishing deadlines and selection, period of each client receiving is between one over max receiving rate and one over play back rate. Using Virtual Buffer in server, scheduling load is reduced. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is verified using a Petri Net_Based simulation tool, Exspect.

  • The mobile robot is one of the widely-used systems in service industry. We propose a gain-scheduling feedback controller for the tracking control of the mobile robot. The benefit of our proposed controller is that it avoids the singularity issue occurs with the controllers suggested in [4], [10]. Moreover, we show the stability analysis of the controlled system via a Lyapunov stability approach such that the exponential convergence of tracking error to zero is analytically provided. The simulation results show the validity of the proposed controller and improved control performance over the conventional controller.

  • Recently developed aircrafts use Fly-By-Wire(FBW) or Fly-By-Light(FBL) system. These systems have some merits; they can perform very complicated missions, they can expand the flight region and improve the reliability of the aircrafts. With the development of flight control systems that use FBW technique, flight envelope protection concept is introduced to guarantee reliability of the aircraft and improve the efficiency of mission achievement. In this study, flight envelope protection system is designed using a dynamic trim algorithm, a peak response estimation, and a gain scheduling technique. The performance of these methods are compared by performing numerical simulation.

A Construction of TMO Object Group Model for Distributed Real-Time Services (분산 실시간 서비스를 위한 TMO 객체그룹 모델의 구축)

  • In this paper, we design and construct a TMO object group that provides the guaranteed real-time services in the distributed object computing environments, and verify execution power of its model for the correct distributed real-time services. The TMO object group we suggested is based on TINA's object group concept. This model consists of TMO objects having real-time properties and some components that support the object management service and the real-time scheduling service in the TMO object group. Also TMO objects can be duplicated or non-duplicated on distributed systems. Our model can execute the guaranteed distributed real-time service on COTS middlewares without restricting the specially ORB or the of operating system. For achieving goals of our model. we defined the concepts of the TMO object and the structure of the TMO object group. Also we designed and implemented the functions and interactions of components in the object group. The TMO object group includes the Dynamic Binder object and the Scheduler object for supporting the object management service and the real-time scheduling service, respectively The Dynamic Binder object supports the dynamic binding service that selects the appropriate one out of the duplicated TMO objects for the clients'request. And the Scheduler object supports the real-time scheduling service that determines the priority of tasks executed by an arbitrary TMO object for the clients'service requests. And then, in order to verify the executions of our model, we implemented the Dynamic Binder object and the Scheduler object adopting the binding priority algorithm for the dynamic binding service and the EDF algorithm for the real-time scheduling service from extending the existing known algorithms. Finally, from the numerical analyzed results we are shown, we verified whether our TMO object group model could support dynamic binding service for duplicated or non-duplicated TMO objects, also real-time scheduling service for an arbitrary TMO object requested from clients.

  • 마이크로 프로세서의 클럭 속도를 공급 전압에 따라 변하게 하는 방법을 Dynamic Voltage Scaling 방법이라 한다. 이것은 운영체제를 내장한 컴퓨터 시스템의 에너지 소비 효율성을 높일 수 있는 매우 효과적인 방법이다. 본 논문에서는 Dynamic Voltage Scaling 방법을 응용하여 실시간 운영체제의 스케줄링 방법을 제안하였다. 이 방법은 다음에 실행할 태스크의 양을 예하여 적절하게 공급전압과 클럭 속도를 조절함으로써 에너지 소비 효율성을 높였다.

Performance Enhancement of On-Line Scheduling Algorithm for IRIS Real-Time Tasks using Partial Solution (부분 해를 이용한 IRIS 실시간 태스크용 온-라인 스케줄링 알고리즘의 성능향상)

  • In this paper, we propose an on-line scheduling algorithm with the goal of maximizing the total reward of IRIS (Increasing Reward with Increasing Service) real-time tasks that have reward functions and arrive dynamically into the system. We focus on enhancing the performance of scheduling algorithm, which W.: based on the following two main ideas. First, we show that the problem to maximize the total reward of dynamic tasks can also be solved by the problem to find minimum of maximum derivatives of reward functions. Secondly, we observed that only a few of scheduled tasks are serviced until a new task arrives, and the rest tasks are rescheduled with the new task. Based on our observation, the Proposed algorithm doesn't schedules all tasks in the system at every scheduling print, but a part of tasks. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulations for various cases. The simulation result showed that the computational complexity of proposed algorithm is$O(N_2)$ in the worst case which is equal to those of the previous algorithms, but close to O(N) on the average.
