A Variable Transmission Window MAC protocol for QoS Support in EPON System. (EPON 시스템 QoS 지원을 위한 가변 윈도우 MAC 프로토콜)

  • Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) has drawn many attention as a promising access network technology because it can provide a high bandwidth with a low cost. Since the uplink in the EPON system is shared by many users, it is necessary for an EPON system to have an efficient bandwidth allocation mechanism. In addition, as the users demand more QoS-oriented applications, it is necessary for an EPON system to have an efficient mechanism supporting QoS. In this paper, we propose a variable window dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for the EPON system. Unlike the previously proposed DBA algorithms, the variable window algorithm guarantees the QoS for the highest priority class, and at the same time provides more enhanced QoS for the lower priority classes by dynamically allocating bandwidth if necessary. It is verified through the simulations that the variable window algorithm can provide more enhanced QoS performance than other DBA algorithms.

  • A multi-OLT PON architecture is proposed to accommodate several types of services or multiple service providers economically in a single PON. The operation protocol and a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme appropriate for two-OLT structure are proposed. Performance analysis shows that the proposed system is very efficient and can be used in the upcoming higher speed PON system.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid scheme for dynamic bandwidth allocation(DBA) in Ethernet passive optical network(EPON), which combines advantages of adaptive cycle and constant cycle-based schemes. The proposed scheme is based on IPACT scheme, but it operates as adaptive cycle or constant cycle mode according to the queue status of optical line terminal(OLT) for downstream transmission. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme could achieve a similar throughput in downstream transmission to a constant cycle-based DBA scheme, while producing a similar delay performance to the IPACT scheme in upstream transmission.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the power detection (PD)-based TDM-PON architecture, which is implemented with a hardware-based decentralized DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation) algorithm among ONUs, without OLT's intervention. Of particular importance in the proposed approach is that the hardware-based power detection scheme is used to manage the distributed MAC algorithm without any complex, time-consuming and costly software-processing elements for DBA in ONUs and OLT. We evaluate the performance of average packet end-to-end delay in a statistical analysis and numerical analysis. In addition, through simulations with various traffic models, we verified the superior performance of the proposed approach by comparing with the results of other E-PONs.

  • In this paper, we investigate the packet delay distribution of a dynamic bandwidth allocation(DBA) scheme in an Ethernet passive optical network(EPON). We focus on the gated-exhaustive vacation system. We assume that input packets arrive at an optical network unit(ONU) according to general interarrival distribution. We use a discrete time queueing model in order to find the packet delay distribution of the gated-exhaustive system with the primary transmission queue and the secondary input queue. We give some numerical examples to investigate the mean packet delays of the proposed queueing model to analyze the DBA scheme in an EPON.

  • An Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is an economical and efficient access network that received significant research attention in recent year. A MAC protocol of the PON, the next generation access network, is based primarily on TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). In this paper, we addressed the problems of a dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) in Fairness and QoS Performance. We augmented the advanced bandwidth allocation algorithms to support efficient resource utilization by reducing the unused remaining bandwidth made by idle state ONUs. Our new proposed advanced bandwidth allocation algorithm can allocate effectively and fairly the bandwidths between end-users.

  • Passive optical networks (PONs) will be the pervasive choice in the design of next-generation access networks. One possible solution to implementing Passive optical access network is to rely on wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). In this paper, we solve the problem of providing real-time service to both hard and soft real-time messages in conjunction with a conventional vest-effort service in WDM. we propose an adaptive scheduling algorithm to schedule and manage the message transmissions in the optical access network. Proposed algorithm is MLF-MQF. Also, we suggest dynamic bandwidth algorithm(DBA) in Loop-back WDM-PON (LPB-PON).our mechanism based on bandwidth reservation protocol.

  • Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Passive Optical Network(ATM-PON) Technology is one of the best solutions for implementation of broadband access network. In this paper, we propose a new Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithm for ATM-PON systems. The DBA is a key technique for data traffic management. DBA has been studied widely to allow ATM-PON to transport data traffic cost-effectively and efficiently, and currently a hot standardization issue in Full Service Access Network(FSAN) and ITU-T. The proposed DBA algorithm efficiently manages the user traffics according to their service categories. Performance of the proposed algorithm, in aspect of Cell Transfer Delay(CTD) and Cell Delay Variation(CDV), is evaluated using computer simulation.
