Turbo codes are extensively used in current communications standards and have a promising outlook for future generations. The advantages of software defined radio, especially dynamic reconfiguration, make it very attractive in this multi-standard scenario. However, the complex and power consuming implementation of the maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm, employed by turbo decoders, sets hurdles to this goal. This work introduces an ASIP architecture for the MAP algorithm, based on a dual-clustered VLIW processor. It displays the good performance of application specific designs along with the versatility of processors, which makes it compliant with leading edge standards. The machine deals with multi-operand instructions in an innovative way, the fetching and assertion of data is serialized and the addressing is automatized and transparent for the programmer. The performance-area trade-off of the proposed architecture achieves a throughput of 8 cycles per symbol with very low power dissipation.
This paper present a method of constructing the multimedia processor architecture. The proposed multimedia processor architecture be able to handle each text, sound, and video in one chip. Also it have interactive function that is a characteristics of multimedia. Specially, the proposed multimedia processor be able to addressing nodes in memory map without software, and it is completely reconfigurable depend on data. Also it as able to process time and space common that have synchronous/asynchronous and it is able to protect continuous and dynamic media bus collision, and local and overall common memory structure. The proposed multimedia processor architecture apply to virtual reality and mixed reality.
This article examines the issue of utilization of research findings from public funded research institutions (PRIs) and universities in Malaysia from the perspective of knowledge flows. Such a perspective is adapted from the literature on innovation and knowledge systems. This representation of innovation in terms of knowledge flows helps us to focus on the managerial dimensions involved in the organization of activities such as research and development (R&D). The paper reveals that there is a dismal rate of adoption of research findings generated from PRIs and universities in Malaysia. It is argued that this poor performance is a consequence of weak research management practices. A framework on the key elements of sound research management is described. The article concludes with a discussion on managerial and policy issues arising from these deficiencies and some suggestions for addressing them.
This study explored the elements that affect team achievements in virtual environments. In this study, consideration was given to the role of group dynamics in facilitating productive interaction. We aspired to reveal the mechanisms of group dynamics and examined how group dynamics affected team achievements in virtual environments. The empirical study was performed with undergraduate students enrolled in an e-learning course. In collaboration with other majors, students executed team projects and managed project issues in forums or chat rooms. The results of the empirical study indicated that leadership, creative friction, and group cohesion (components of group dynamics) had positive relationships with team achievements. The findings confirmed that addressing creative conflict is a method to improve team performance and that leadership is a key factor in project teams.
Using existing static methods, it is possible to estimate accurately the reponses of structures governed by the fundamental mode. However, these methods do not provide reliable estimates for the structure where higher mode effects are significant. Parametric study was performed to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the structure with long vibration period. Based on the investigations, a new modal combination method using modal combination coefficients, Factored Modal Combination, was developed, and static earthquake load patterns addressing higher mode effects reasonably were proposed. Existing modal combination methods, such as SRSS and CQC, lack a theoretical basis to be applied to inelastic structures. In contrast, the proposed method can be applied conveniently in inelastic range as well as in elastic range.

In order to drive the high-density plasma displays, a high-speed driving technology must be researched. In this experiment, the relationship between the width of the address electrode and high-speed driving is analyzed using the Vt close curve and the panel structure for high-speed driving is proposed. In addition we show that the wider the width of the address electrode is, the narrower the width of the scan pulse becomes. Therefore, we could achieve the minimum data voltage of 50.1V at a scan pulse width of $1.0/{\mu}s$ and a ramp voltage of 210V at an address electrode width of $180/{\mu}m$ for the high-speed driving 4-inch test PDP.
The emerging sensor-based structural health monitoring (SHM) technology has a potential for cost-effective maintenance of aging civil infrastructure systems. The author proposes to integrate continuous and global monitoring using on-structure sensors with targeted local non-destructive evaluation (NDE). Significant technical challenges arise, however, from the lack of cost-effective sensors for monitoring spatially large structures, as well as reliable methods for interpreting sensor data into structural health conditions. This paper reviews recent efforts and advances made in addressing these challenges, with example sensor hardware and health monitoring software developed in the author's research center. The hardware includes a novel fiber optic accelerometer, a vision-based displacement sensor, a distributed strain sensor, and a microwave imaging NDE device. The health monitoring software includes a number of system identification methods such as the neural networks, extended Kalman filter, and nonlinear damping identificaiton based on structural dynamic response measurement. These methods have been experimentally validated through seismic shaking table tests of a realistic bridge model and tested in a number of instrumented bridges and buildings.
