  • A new tooth profile which is adjusted on the amount of addendum modification factor is proposed for reducing vibration and noise of gears. The transmission error of the new profile can be designed more uniformly than that of the standard involute profile. The basic concepts of tooth profile modification are to reduce the load in contact area and to find the appropriate profile modification factor for operation condition. In this study, gears were estimated to constructive safety of bending strength and contact strength durability by using ROMAX program, and were compared with results by design formula of AGMA standard.

  • The Deterioration Factor (DF) for a single pollutant within an engine family is computed as the ratio of two points on a linear regression line describing durability vehicle test results as a function of accumulated mileage. It is inteded to represent the factor by which emissions will increase during the ''useful life" of a vehicle in the engine family. Here are discribed procedures for computing the DF and how consideration of the DF is included in the development for the motor vehicle emission certification process. This paper is aimed to develop the distribution of the DF for three pollutant and to estimate the parameter values for the distribution of the DF.

  • Building deterioration reflects the degradation of basic building performance including structural performance, energy performance, durability, and safety, and it also includes perceived deterioration, which considers a user-based perspective. More than 50% of the existing buildings in Korea are over 15 years old and public buildings compose 2.5% of all buildings domestically. Therefore, there are several different problems, such as poor energy efficiency, structural performance, and safety. To address the challenges of increasing stock in deteriorated buildings, it is necessary to make decisions about reconstruction or renovation. In this study, we propose a new method to evaluate public building value with a contingent valuation method (CVM). By estimating willing-to-pay (WTP) from users of private buildings in similar situation with the public building, it is possible to compare market prices and calculate a correction factor to adjust the WTP data. Finally, we apply the correction factor to the WTP of a public building and estimate market price, willingness to pay (WTP). Long-Term Compressive Strength and Durability Properties of "CSG" Materials by Freezing-Thawing Test (동결융해시험에 의한 "CSG" 재료의 장기강도 및 내구 특성)

  • With the development of construction technology, constructions of dam and levee (dike) as well as the environmental problems are becoming issues. Recently, many countries have tried to develop and used CSG (Cemented Sand and Gravel), which needs fewer requirements than others in aggregates, constructability and ground condition during the dam construction. Mixing up with small amount of cement, CSG is able to increase the strength and proceed accelerated construction without artificial gradation adjustment of riverbed aggregate and crushed rock on construction site. Thus, CSG can minimize environmental damage resulted from quarries mining and reduce cost of construction. Unlike heat of hydration condition that regular concrete usually met, CSG exposes to repeated dry-wet and freezing and thawing environment. Thus, consider the importance of structure of dam or levee, intensive study on the durability of CSG is needed. In this study, freezing and thawing experiment was carried out to evaluate the durability of CSG. In results, the durability factor of CSG is 30~40 or >40 when the amount of cement is $0.4{\sim}0.6kN/m^3$ or $0.8{\sim}1.0kN/m^3$, respectively. The unconfined compressive strength is reduced to 30~50% or 40~70% when the amount of cement is $0.4{\sim}0.6kN/m^3$ or $0.8{\sim}1.0kN/m^3$, respectively. Taken together, the strength and durability of CSG is reliable when the amount of cement is over $0.8kN/m^3$.

Freezing and Thawing Properties of Concrete Using Recycled Coarse Aggregate (재생굵은골재를 사용한 콘크리트의 동결융해 특성)

  • This study was performed to examine the freezing and thawing properties of the high strength concrete using recycled coarse aggregate. The recycled coarse aggregate was replaced by 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of natural crushed aggregate. The compressive strength of the concrete used recycled coarse aggregate was shown in more than $400kgf/cm^2$ at the curing age 28 days. The weight loss ratio by freezing and thawing was shown in less than 1% at all mix type. The pulse velocity and relative dynamic modulus were decreased with increasing the freezing and thawing cycles. Also, durability factor for the freezing and thawing were decreased with increasing the content of recycled coarse aggregate. But, recycled concrete replaced with recycled coarse aggregate 100% was shown in more than 60 by durability factor in freezing and thawing of 300cycles Accordingly, these recycled coarse aggregate can be used for high strength concrete.

  • Development of a small gas-turbine combustor for 100kW class APU(Auxiliary Power Unit) has been performed. This combustor is a reverse-annular type and has a tangential swirler in the liner head to improve the fuel/air mixing and flame stability. Three main and three pilot fuel injectors of the simplex pressure-swirl type are used. The performance target at the design condition includes a turbine inlet temperature of 1170K, a combustion efficiency of 99%, a pattern factor of 30%, and an engine durability of 3000 hours. Under developing the combustor, we conducted performance test of our first prototype(TS1) with some variants. As a result of the test, the performance targets of the combustor are satisfied except that the pattern factor is about 4% higher than target value. So, we redesigned the second prototype(TS2) and conduct performance test with the critical focus on pattern factor and exit mean temperature. We adopted TS2 four variant to check the improvement of pattern factor. As the result, the pattern factors of several variants were satisfied with the performance target. Finally, We chose the TS2A variant as a final combustor for our APU model.

Fundamental Properties of High Performance Concrete using Crushed Stone Fines (쇄석분을 사용한 고성능콘크리트의 기초 특성)

  • This study aims to make high performance concrete for normal strength using crushed stone fines to control high strength of the high performance concrete. According to the experimental results, when crushed stone fines are increased every 10%, 15% of compressive strength is decreased, and 5% of drying shrinkage is increased, compared to normal high performance concrete. Also, high performance concrete has been evaluated to have good durability factor more than 100% in the 480cycle of freezing and thawing test, without regard to using AE and crushed stone fines.

  • Deterioration induced by the freezing and thawing in concrete often leads to the reduction in concrete durability by the cracking or surface spalling. In this paper, the deterioration prediction model for concrete structures subjected to the irregular freeze-thaw was proposed from the results of accelerated laboratory test using the constant temperature condition and acceleration factor from the in-situ weather data.

  • The effects of binder content and silica sand content on the freezing and thawing resistance of lightweight polymer concrete are examined. As a result, the mass loss and pulse velocity of lightweight polymer concrete decrease with increasing binder content and silica sand content. The relative dynamic modulus and durability factor of lightweight polymer concrete reaches minimum at a silica sand content of 50% and a binder content of 28%, and is inclined to increase with increasing binder content and silica sand content.

  • Abrasion rate of coarse aggregates is an important factor to determine aggregates quality. Allowable limit of abrasion rate of coarse aggregates for concrete is 40% according to K.S. Strength and durability test of concrete with 19 efferent aggregates were made. From this test, it was found that allowable limit of abrasion rate of aggregates can be increased to 43%.
