  • In this paper, A high selective dual-band bandpass filter was proposed using a dual-mode ring resonator with two short-circuited stubs. For dual-mode resonance, the ring resonator is directly connected with non-orthogonal feed-lines via coupling capacitors. Two short-circuited stubs which are unequal lengths are simultaneously placed at two corners along the two symmetry plane of the ring resonator in order to obtain dual-band responses. Because the feeding angle perturbated ring resonator of the proposed dual-band bandpass filter has the symmetrical structure, Even/Odd mode analysis can be well applied to extract the scattering parameters and transmission zero frequencies. The proposed dual-band bandpass filter was designed and fabricated for WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) application of IEEE 802.11n standard. The measured results showed a good agreement with the simulation results, and it should be well applied not only for WLAN applications but also for any other communication systems.

  • Biometric user authentications, day after day, propagate more to human life instead of traditional systems which use passwords and ID cards. However, most of these systems have many problems for given biometric information such noisy data, low-quality data, a limitation of recognition rate, and so on. To deal with these problems, I used Dual QML which is non-linear classification for classifying correctly the real-world data and then proposed preprocessing method for increasing recognition rate and performance by segmenting a specific region on an image. The previous published Dual QML used face, palmprint, ear for the experiment. In this paper, I used iris for experiment and then proved excellence of Dual QML at iris recognition. Finally I demonstrated these results (e.g. increasing recognition rate and performance, suitability for iris recognition) through experiments.

  • Purpose: The goal of this study was to investigate changes in dual-task performance according to age and difficulty of cognitive tasks for the in community-dwelling elderly populations, as well as to examine their changes in hand dexterity according to age and cognitive function. Methods: A total of 135 people aged 65 years old and over participated in the study. To evaluate each participant's dual-task performance, each participant completed a dual task. To assess their cognitive function, the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) and the Korean version of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-K) were the tools used. Participants were divided into three groups based on their age: 65-69 years, 70-79 years, and 80-89 years. Results: The findings showed that age groups and the difficulty of the cognitive task significantly affected the amount of time required for dual-task performance (p<.001). Additionally, the dual-task correct response rate (CRR) decreased significantly with age groups and the difficulty of the cognitive task (p<.001). The amount of time required for finger dexterity performance increased significantly with age groups (mean score±standard deviation [SD]; 19.46±2.26 in subjects aged 65-69 years; 21.92±2.61 in subjects aged 70-79 years; and 23.82±2.92 in subjects aged 80-89 years; p<.001). Moreover, as a result of the correlation between hand dexterity and cognitive function, MoCA-K was -0.563 and MMSE-K was -.412, showing a statistically significant correlation (p<.001). Conclusions: Age and the difficulty of the cognitive task affect the community-dwelling elderly populations in terms of dual-task performance and dual-task CRR. In addition, aging and general cognition have an impact on hand dexterity. Based on the results of this study, it is anticipated that the results will serve as a reference for domestic clinical trials that confirm cognitive decline in the elderly using dual task and hand dexterity evaluation.

  • Purpose : Using a smartphone while walking districts attention and increases the risk of losing balance or falling. Ankle instability is caused by decreased muscle strength and decreased neuromuscular ability leading to postural control problems. Dual tasks increases the risk of falls by reducing postural control in adults with ankle instability. This study aimed to investigate the effect of performing a dual task on balance and muscle activity in adults with ankle instability using a smartphone. Methods : Forty-nine individuals with ankle instability participated in this study. A game of finding the wrong picture was performed using a smartphone in the dual task, and only looking at the blank screen of a smartphone was evaluated in the single task. The participants randomly performed single and dual task to evalutate balance and muscle atcitivy. Balance was evaluated using the Biodex balance system (BBS), and muscle activity was evaluated using surface EMG. Muscle activity of the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior was measured at the same time as balance. Results : The results of this study showed that overall, anteior/posterior, and medial/lateral balance indices all showed significant differences when performing the dual task compared with those during the single task (p<.05). The muscle activity results showed a significant difference compared with that of the gastronemius muscle on the nondominant side during the dual task (p>.05). Conclusion : The results of this study showed that maintaining balance is more difficult when performing the dual task than during the single task, and only the muscle activity of the nondominant gastrocnemius muscle decreased. The dual task causes a decrease in concentration for postural control, which negatively affects postural stability. Individuals with ankle ankle instability should refrain from performing dual tasks, such as using smartphones, to prevent ankle damage.

  • Objectives: To determine the effect of the spectral output of single and dual-peak light emitting diode (LED) curing lights on the microhardness and color stability of commercial resin composites formulated with camphorquinone and alternative photoinitiators in combination. Materials and Methods: Three light-polymerized resin composites (Z100 (3M ESPE), Tetric Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Aelite LS Posterior (Bisco)) with different photoinitiator systems were used. The resin composites were packed into a Teflon mold (8 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness) on a cover glass. After packing the composites, they were light cured with single-peak and dual-peak LEDs. The Knoop microhardness (KHN) and color difference (${\Delta}E$) for 30 days were measured. The data was analyzed statistically using a student's t-test (p < 0.05). Results: All resin composites showed improved microhardness when a third-generation dual-peak LED light was used. The color stability was also higher for all resin composites with dual-peak LEDs. However, there was a significant difference only for Aelite LS Posterior. Conclusions: The dual-peak LEDs have a beneficial effect on the microhardness and color stability of resin composites formulated with a combination of camphorquinone and alternative photoinitiators.

  • In this paper, we analyzed RF-DC conversion efficiency for the dual -polarization rectenna and the antenna position changing. Dual-Polarization rectenna consist of a two major parts, receiving antenna and rectifying circuits. We made dual-polarization 2.45GHz rectenna using the two dipole antennas and patch antenna. Rectifying circuit is consisted by a Schottky-Barrier diode with a large forward current and reverse breakdown voltage. The results of RF-DC conversion efficiency for the each of designed dual-polarization rectenna has 69.1% with 360$\Omega$(dipole type) and 75.4% with 340$\Omega$(patch type ) optimum load resistor. When the each of dual-polarization rectenna has optimal load resistor, it's conversion efficiency shows of $\pm$20% in dipole type and $\pm$5 in patch type at 0~180。position.

  • This paper concerns an effective dual-channel noise reduction method to increase the performance of speech recognition in a car environment. While various single channel methods have already been developed and dual-channel methods have been studied somewhat, their effectiveness in real environments, such as in cars, has not yet been formally proven in terms of achieving acceptable performance level. Our aim is to remedy the low performance of the single and dual-channel noise reduction methods. This paper proposes an effective dual-channel noise reduction method based on a high-pass filter and front-end processing of the eigendecomposition method. We experimented with a real multi-channel car database and compared the results with respect to the microphones arrangements. From the analysis and results, we show that the enhanced eigendecomposition method combined with high-pass filter indeed significantly improve the speech recognition performance under a dual-channel environment.

  • Variable valve timing(VVT) mechanisms are used widely for improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions. Most of application, however, are limited in the DOHC engine. Dual equal retard/advance strategy is relatively simple one and can be applied to both SOHC and DOHC engines. In this study, effects of dual equal valve timing retard/advance are investigated to observe the feasibility of VVT system on an SOHC SI engine. The result shows that fuel economy and emissions are improved in the dual retard condition due to increased internal EGR. Some amount of increase in volumetric efficiency can be achieved by advancing valve timing at low speed and by retarding at high speed. In this case, however, full load power is not so much improved as the volumetric efficiency increases because of severe knock. In the dual advance condition, there is no merit in the fuel economy and emission.

  • Data limited, partial, or incomplete are known as an ill-posed problem. If the data with ill-posed problems are analyzed by traditional statistical methods, the results obviously are not reliable and lead to erroneous interpretations. To overcome these problems, we propose a dual generalized maximum entropy (dual GME) estimator for panel data regression models based on an unconstrained dual Lagrange multiplier method. Monte Carlo simulations for panel data regression models with exogeneity, endogeneity, or/and collinearity show that the dual GME estimator outperforms several other estimators such as using least squares and instruments even in small samples. We believe that our dual GME procedure developed for the panel data regression framework will be useful to analyze ill-posed and endogenous data sets.
