Many researches are carried out for developing the technology to substitute the surface sizing, although this process improves physical properties and water resistance of paper. This is because surface sizing has fundamental limitation to increase drying energy consumption and to restrict speed of paper machine. However, practical and effective technologies were not developed yet. In this study, we investigated the possibility of the substitution of surface sizing using internal starches, such as cationic starch and oxidized starch. To identify effects of internal starches on physical and optical properties, papers were not only made by adding internal starches into pulp slurry but papers surface sized with oxidized starch were also prepared to compare physical and optical properties. Consequently, tensile strength and internal bond of paper containing internal starches were higher than those of surface sized paper by controlling the type and addition level of cationic starch.

In this study, was proposed a numerical scheme imposing exact solutions as the internal boundary conditions for the shallow-water flows over a discontinuous transverse structure such as a step. The HLLL approximate Riemann solver with the MUSCL was used for the test of the proposed scheme. Very good agreement was obtained between simulations and exact solutions for various problems of the shallow-water flows over a step. In addition, results by the numerical model showed good agreement with those of dam-break experiments over a step and stepped chute one. Developed model can simulate the shallow-water flows over discontinuous bottom such as a drop structure without additional rating curve or topography smoothing. Given the proper evaluations for the flow resistance by a step and the energy loss by the nappe flow in the future, could be simulated flooding and drying of the shallow-water flows over discontinuous topography such as a weir or the river road with retaining wall.

Since the current method of SCW cement milk pouring method uses one to one ratio of cement milk with OPC, there are some problems such as drying shrinkage, increased cost, difficulty of controlling mix proportions for various conditions of applied soil, and precipitation of $Cr^{6+}$ due to the excessively used cement. Specifically, in aspect of sustainability issues of cement manufacturing, the consumption of cement should be reduced. Hence, in this research, as a replacement of cement for SCW method, blast furnace slag with sulfate or alkali as a stimulant, and expansive admixture were used. By using blast furnace slag as a hardening composite of SCW, there are many advantages such as free controllable mix proportions, rapid setting time with less mud occurrence, less cost with less energy for mixing, constant strength development, and less precipitation of $Cr^{6+}$. Regarding the alternative composites for SCW, in this research, durability and chloride resistance were evaluated.
The application of microwave technology has been investigated in the remediation of diesel-contaminated soil. The paper deals with economic assessment by means of cost analysis and degradation characteristics at different microwave powers for total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) in diesel contaminated soils. The soils from S Mountain around the D University were sampled. The samples were screened with 2.0 mm mesh and dried for 6 hours before the diesel was added into the dried soils. The diesel-contaminated soil (3,300 mg THP/kg soil) was prepared with diesel (S Co.). The drying process was carried out in a microwave oven, a standard household appliance with a 2,450 MHz frequency and 700 W of power. The experiments were conducted from 0 to 20 minutes as the microwave powers increased from 350W to 500W to 700W. The concentrations of TPH were analysed using a gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS). The initial concentration of TPH was 3,300 mg TPH/kg soil. The weight of contaminated soil was 200g. The concentration of TPH was decreased to 1,828 mg TPH/kg soil (44.7%), 1,347 mg TPH/kg soil (59.2%) and 1,014 mg TPH/kg soil (69.3%) at 350W, 500W and 700W for 15 minutes respectively. In addition, the curve was best fit with first order kinetics using the least-square method. The ranges of a first order rate constant k and r-square were $0.0298{\sim}0.0375min^{-1}$ and $0.9373{\sim}0.9541$ respectively.

The HLLL scheme, proposed by T. Linde, determines all the wave speeds from the initial states because the middle wave is evaluated by the introduction of a generalized entropy function. The scheme is considered a genuine successor to the original HLL scheme because it is completely separated form the Roe's linearization scheme unlike the HLLE scheme and does not rely on the exact solution unlike the HLLC scheme. In this study, a numerical model was configured by the HLLL scheme with the total energy as a generalized entropy function to solve governing equations, which are the one-dimensional shallow water equations without source terms and with an additional conserved variable relating a concentration. Despite the limitations of the first order solutions, results to three cases with the exact solutions were generally accurate. The HLLL scheme appeared to be superior in comparison with the other HLL-type schemes. In particular, the scheme gave fairly accurate results in capturing the front of wetting and drying. However, it revealed shortcomings of more time-consuming calculations compared to the other schemes.
This study was carried out to estimate the moisture sorption characteristics and prediction model of anchovy powders with different particle size as above 80 mesh, 80-60 mesh and 40-60 mesh. The equilibrium moisture content had higher values at lower storage temperatures, and higher water activity. The monolayer moisture content calculated using the GAB equation showed a higher level of significance than that of BET equation. The estimated monolayer moisture content was 0.024-0.052 g $H_2O/g$ dry solid. The absorption enthalpy was calculated with different particle size and various water activities. It showed that the absorption energy was decreased with increasing water activity but no difference was found on particle size increasement. The fitness of the isotherm curve was shown to be in the order of Khun, Halsey, Caurie and Oswin model. The prediction model equations for the moisture content were established by ln(time), water activity, and temperature, respectively. The model equation will be helpful for future work on drying and storage of anchovy powder.

Absorption characteristics of green tea powder were investigated. The monolayer moisture content determined by GAB equation was 0.024~0.052 g $H_2O$/g dry solid. The absorption enthalpy was calculated with different particle size and various water activities. It showed that the absorption energy was decreased with increasing water activity but no difference was found on particle size increasement. Among models applied for predicting equilibrium moisture content, Halsey model was the best fit model for green tea powders, showing the lowest prediction deviation of 2.1~4.0%. The prediction model equations for the water activity was established as function of relative humidity, time and temperature. The model equation will be helpful for future work on drying and storage of green tea powder.
The demand for cold rolled steel (CR) for structural members is gradually increasing. If no surface treatment (coating for corrosion resistance) for CR is conducted, its use is very limited because CR is vulnerable to corrosion. Therefore, we need to develop a coating solution to provide high corrosion resistance for CR. In this study, an organic/inorganic coating solution with Si and Ti (Si polysilicate 7 wt.% + Urethane 13 wt.% + Ti amorphous 0.5 wt.%; LR-0727(1)) was used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of CR under a salt spray test. The specimens with the LR-0727(1) coating were heat treated in a drying oven at $120{\sim}210^{\circ}C$for 5 min. The corrosion resistance was investigated using a salt spray test of 7 h. In addition, an adhesive test was conducted. Rust showed under a heat treatment of $150^{\circ}C$, but no vestiges were found over $160^{\circ}C$. The specimens with heat treatment at $160^{\circ}C$ or more did not experience delamination. From these results, it is considered that the temperature limit for optimum heat treatment is $160^{\circ}C$ considering energy efficiency.

Industrial gas drying, dilute gas mixtures purification, air fractionation, hydrogen production from steam reformers and petroleum refinery off-gases, etc are conducted by using adsorptive separation technology. The pressure swing adsorption (PSA) has certain advantages over the other methods, such as absorption and membrane, that are a low energy requirement and cost-effectiveness. A key component of PSA systems is adsorbents that should be highly selective to a gas being separated from its mixture streams and have isotherms suitable for the operation principle. The six standard types of isotherms have been examined in this review, and among them the best behavior in the adsorption of $CO_2$ as a function of pressure was proposed in aspects of maximizing a working capacity upon excursion between adsorption and desorption cycles. Zeolites and molecular sieves are historically typical adsorbents for such PSA applications in gas and related industries, and their physicochemical features, e.g., framework, channel structure, pore size, Si-to-Al ratio (SAR), and specific surface area, are strongly associated with the extent of $CO_2$ adsorption at given conditions and those points have been extensively described with literature data. A great body of data of $CO_2$ adsorption on the nanoporous zeolitic materials have been collected according to pressure ranges adsorbed, and these isotherms have been discussed to get an insight into a better $CO_2$ adsorbent for PSA processes.
A small PEM fuel cell has two different stack configurations such as active and passive stacks. The active stack has a distintion of high power density although it makes system complex by using alr blower and related BOPs resulting in large system volume. On the contrary, passive stack has an advantage of compact system because it doesn't need air supplying devices although it reveals relatively low stack power density. In this study we fabricated two 10W PEMFC stacks with different stack configurations, active and passive stacks, and tested their performance and stability. The active stack consists of 13cells with an active area of $5cm^2$. The passive stack has 12cells with an active area of $16cm^2$. When we compared the stack performance of those stacks, the active stack showed higher power density compared to the passive stack, particularly at high voltage regions. However, at low voltage and high current regions, the passive stack performance was comparable to the active stack. The stack stability was largely dependent on the fuel humidity, particularly for active stack. At low humidity conditions, the active stack performance was decreased continuously and the cell voltage distribution was not uniform showing seriously low cell voltage at center cells mainly due to the cell drying. The passive stack showed relatively stable behavior at low humidity and the stack performance was largely dependent on the atmospheric conditions.
