자동역세척 여과장치를 이용한 선박 밸러스트수 처리 (Development of Automatic Backwashing Treatment System for Ballast Water)

  • 선박에서 발생되는 밸러스트수를 전처리하기 위하여 수중에 포함되어 있는 입자상 오염물질과 수중생물체를 자동역세척 여과장치를 이용하여 처리한 결과를 나타내었다. 밸러스트수를 처리하기 위한 전처리의 장점은 입자상이 오염물질을 제거하여 후처리공정의 처리효과를 높이는데 있다. 여과필터를 회전하여 20RPM 에서는 40.5cmHg이고 40RPM 에서는 36.6cmHg이며 60RPM 이상에서는 35cmHg로 나타나 연속적으로 여과할 수 있었다. 필터의 막힘현상으로 역세 회복압력과 역세간격은 시간의 경과에 따라 조금씩 좁아지고 처리유량도 감소하는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. 회분식 여과처리공정은 자동 역세척을 수행하는 공정에 비해서 처리효율의 저하가 일어났다. 여과처리를 통하여 $80{\mu}m$이상의 식물성 플랑크톤과 동물성 플랑크톤을 포함하는 수중생물체를 제거할 수 있었다. 연구결과를 통하여 밸러스트수 처리에 적용 가능한 기술임을 알 수 있었다.

입제비료 살포기의 출구조절에 의한 균일도의 분석과 제어 (Analysis and Control of Uniformity by the Feed Gate Adaptation of a Granular Spreader)

  • A method was proposed which employed control of the drop location of fertilizer particles on a spinner disc to optimize the spread pattern uniformity. The system contained an optical sensor as a feedback mechanism, which measured discharge velocity and location, as well as particle diameters to predict a spread pattern of a single disc. Simulations showed that the feed gate adaptation algorithm produced high quality patterns for any given application rate in the dual disc spreader. The performance of the feed gate control method was assessed using data collected from a Sulky spinner disc spreader. The results showed that it was always possible to find a spread pattern with an acceptable CV lower than 15%, even though the spread pattern was obtained from a rudimentary flat disc with straight radial vanes. A mathematical optimization method was used to find the initial parameter settings for a specially designed experimental spreading arrangement, which included the feed gate control system, for a given flow rate and swath width. Several experiments were carried out to investigate the relationship between the gate opening and flow rate, disc speed and particle velocity, as well as disc speed and predicted landing location of fertilizer particles. All relationships found were highly linear ($r^2$ > 0.96), which showed that the time-of-flight sensor was well suited as a feedback sensor in the rate and uniformity controlled spreading system.

출력 버퍼형 $a{\times}b$스위치로 구성된 Fat-tree 망의 성능 분석 (Performance Evaluation of a Fat-tree Network with Output-Buffered $a{\times}b$ Switches)

  • 본 논문에서는, $a{\times}b$ 출력 버퍼 스위치로 구성된 fat-tree 망의 성능 예측 모형을 제안하고, 스위치에 장착된 버퍼의 개수 증가에 따른 성능 향상 추이를 분석하였다. Buffered 스위치 기법은 스위치 네트웍 내부의 데이타 충돌 문제를 효과적으로 해결할 수 있는 방법으로 널리 알려져 있다. 제안한 성능 예측 모형은 먼저 네트웍 내부 임의 스위치 입력 단에 유입되는 데이타 패킷이 스위치 내부에서 전송되는 유형을 확률적으로 분석하여 수립되었다. 제안한 모형은 스위치에 장착된 버퍼의 개수와 무관하게 출력 버퍼를 장착한 $a{\times}b$ 스위치의 성능, 즉 네트웍 성능 평가의 두 가지 주요 요소인 네트웍 정상상태 처리율(Steady state Throughput, ST)과 네트웍 지연시간(Network Delay)의 예측이 가능하다. 또한 모형의 이해를 도모하기 위하여 지능형 네트워크 트래픽 제어 및 중도 소실 패킷에 대한 다양한 처리 기능 등 최근 개발되는 스위치 네트워크의 부가기능을 배제하고 수식을 정리하였다. 그러나, 제안된 분석 모형은 이들 다양한 성능 향상 기술이 적용된 네트워크, 그리고 다양한 크기의 네트워크 성능분석에도 쉽게 적용이 가능하다. 제안한 수학적 성능 분석 연구의 실효성 검증을 위하여 병행된 시뮬레이션 결과는 상호 미세한 오차 범위 내에서 모형의 예측 데이타와 일치하는 결과를 보여 분석 모형의 타당성을 입증하였다.

Effects of Landing Foot Orientations on Biomechanics of Knee Joint in Single-legged Landing

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the influence of landing foot orientations on biomechanics of knee joint in order to identify vulnerable positions to non-contact knee injuries during single-legged landing. Method: Seventeen men (age: $20.5{\pm}1.1 years$, height: $175.2{\pm}6.4cm$, weight: $68.8{\pm}5.8kg$) performed single-leg drop landings repeatedly with three different landing foot orientations. They were defined as toe-in (TI) $30^{\circ}$ adduction, neutral (N, neutral), and toe-out (TO) $30^{\circ}$ abduction positions. Results: The downward phase time of TI was significantly shorter than those of N and TO. The flexion and valgus angle of N was greater than those of TI and TO at the moment of foot contact. At the instance of maximum knee flexion, N showed the largest flexion angle, and TO position had the largest varus and external rotation angles. Regarding ground reaction force (GRF) at the moment of foot contact, TO showed the forward GRF, while others showed the backward GRF. TI indicated significantly larger mediolateral GRF than others. As for the maximum knee joint force and joint moment, the main effect of different foot positions was not significant. Conclusion: TI and TO might be vulnerable positions to knee injuries because both conditions might induce combined loadings to knee joint. TI had the highest mediolateral GRF with a shortest foot contact time, and TO had induced a large external rotation angle during downward phase and the peak forward GRF at the moment of foot contact. Conclusively, N is the preferred landing foot orientation to prevent non-contact knee injuries.

친환경 재료를 사용한 흑색 지르코니아 세라믹스 제조 (Manufacture of Black Color Zirconia Ceramics Used by Eco-Friendly Materials)

  • The goal of this investigation was to produce a zirconia-family black ceramics that has enhanced functionality and reliability. Color zirconia ceramics have been produced by adding pigments. Pigments cause structural defects within zirconia and result in a drop in physical properties. Using environmentally friendly rice husk, we produced a black zirconia that is free of structural defects. In optimal firing conditions for black zirconia the calcining temperatures of the molding product are changed from $400^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$, and the firing temperatures are changed from $1400^{\circ}C$ to $1600^{\circ}C$. Color of testing the specimens was analyzed using Ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), EDAX (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses were carried out in order to examine impregnation properties and crystal phases. Universial Test Machine (UTM) was used to measure the flexual strength as well as the compressive strength. From experimental results, it was found that in optimal firing conditions the sample was calcined from $1000^{\circ}C$ to $1500^{\circ}C$. Commission internationalde I'Edairage (CIE) values of manufactured black zirconia color were $L^*$ = 29.73, $a^*$ = 0.23, $b^*$ = -2.68. The bending strength was 918 MPa and the compressive strength was 2676 MPa. These strength values are similar to typical strength values of zirconia, which confirms that carbon impregnation did not influence physical properties.

  • 본 연구에서는 유압벌지시험기를 이용한 저속 벌지시험과 낙하해머(drop hammer)를 응용한 충격벌지시험기를 제작, 사용하여 충격벌지시험을 하여 저속변형과 충격변형에서 판재금속의 성형한계선도를 구하고 변형율속도가 판재의 불안정 및 성형 성에 미치는 영향을 조사하고 다이의 형상비(단축/장축)를 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 등으로 달 리하여 실험하므로써 변형경로에 따른 한계변형율의 변화를 관찰하고 아울러 기존의 성형한계이론과 비교, 검토하였다.

A Study of Design of Hollow Fiber Membrane Modules for using in Artificial Lung by the PZT Actuator

  • The purpose of this work was to assess and quantify the beneficial effects of gas exchange, while testingto the various frequencies of the sinusoidal wave that was excited by the PZT actuator, for patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or chronic respiratory problems. Also, this paper considered a simulator to design a hollow type artificial lung, and a mathematical model was used to predict a behavior of blood. This simulation was carried out according to the Montecarno's simulation method, anda fourth order Runge-Kutta method was used to solve the equation. The experimental design and procedure are then applied to the construction of a new device to assess the effectiveness of the membrane vibrations. As a result, the vibration method is very effective in the increase of gas transport. The gas exchange efficiency for the vibrating intravascular lung assist device can be increased by emphasizing the following design features: consistent and reproducible fiber geometry, and most importantly, an active means of enhancing convective mixing of water around the hollow fiber membranes. The experimental results showed the effective performance of the vibrating intravascular lung assist device. Also, we concluded that important design parameters were blood flow rates, fiber outer diameter and oxygen pressure drop. Based on the present results, it was believed that the optimal level of blood flow rates was 200$cm^3$/min.

Detection of Innate and Artificial Mitochondrial DNA Heteroplasmy by Massively Parallel Sequencing: Considerations for Analysis

  • Background: Mitochondrial heteroplasmy, the co-existence of different mitochondrial polymorphisms within an individual, has various forensic and clinical implications. But there is still no guideline on the application of massively parallel sequencing (MPS) in heteroplasmy detection. We present here some critical issues that should be considered in heteroplasmy studies using MPS. Methods: Among five samples with known innate heteroplasmies, two pairs of mixture were generated for artificial heteroplasmies with target minor allele frequencies (MAFs) ranging from 50% to 1%. Each sample was amplified by two-amplicon method and sequenced by Ion Torrent system. The outcomes of two different analysis tools, Torrent Suite Variant Caller (TVC) and mtDNA-Server (mDS), were compared. Results: All the innate heteroplasmies were detected correctly by both analysis tools. Average MAFs of artificial heteroplasmies correlated well to the target values. The detection rates were almost 90% for high-level heteroplasmies, but decreased for low-level heteroplasmies. TVC generally showed lower detection rates than mDS, which seems to be due to their own computation algorithms which drop out some reference-dominant heteroplasmies. Meanwhile, mDS reported several unintended low-level heteroplasmies which were suggested as nuclear mitochondrial DNA sequences. The average coverage depth of each sample placed on the same chip showed considerable variation. The increase of coverage depth had no effect on the detection rates. Conclusion: In addition to the general accuracy of the MPS application on detecting heteroplasmy, our study indicates that the understanding of the nature of mitochondrial DNA and analysis algorithm would be crucial for appropriate interpretation of MPS results.

화학기상증착법에 의하여 제조된 그래핀 성장층의 기계적 마모 특성 (Tribological Properties of Chemical Vapor Deposited Graphene Coating Layer)

  • Graphene has recently received high attention as a promising material for various applications, and many related studies have been undertaken to reveal its basic mechanical properties. However, the tribological properties of graphene film fabricated by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method are barely known. In this study, the contact angle and frictional wear characteristics of graphene coated copper film were investigated under room temperature, normal air pressure, and no lubrication condition. The contact angle was measured by sessile drop method and the wear test was carried out under normal loads of 660 mN and 2940 mN, respectively. The tribological behaviors of a graphene coating layer were also examined. Compared to heat treated bare copper foil, the graphene coated one shows a higher contact angle and lower friction coefficient.

경남지역 국화농가의 소득률 분석 (An Analysis of Income Ratio of Chrysanthemum Farms in GyeongNam Province)

  • 경남지역은 우리나라 국화 재배의 중심지로 1960년대부터 국화 재배를 시작하여 전국에서 가장 먼저 국화 재배를 도입한 지역 가운데 하나이다. 과거 경남지역 국화농가의 소득률은 다른 지역에 비해 상대적으로 높았으나 최근에는 지속적으로 약화되는 추세를 보이고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 경남지역 국화농가의 소득률을 분석하여 소득률이 저하되는 원인을 찾는 데 있다. 분석 결과, 조수입보다는 경영비 측면에서의 원인으로 소득률이 악화된 것으로 나타났다. 경영비 가운데에서도 특히 유가 변화에 영향을 받는 광열동력비의 변화에 따라 소득률이 큰 폭으로 변화하였다. 경남지역을 포함한 우리나라 국화농가의 경우, 유가(면세유 기준)가 리터당 700원 이상이 되면 소득률이 크게 하락하는 것으로 나타났다.
