  • This paper presents an improved droop method which minimizes the voltage droop of a parallel-connected power supply Conventionally, the droop method has been used to achieve a simple structure and no-interconnections among power sources. However, it has a trade-off between output voltage regulation and load sharing accuracy In this paper, the droop is minimized with a current and droop gain control using steady-stage estimation. The proposed method can achieve both good voltage regulation and good load sharing. A design example of two 10㎸, 100㎃ parallel modules is made and tested to verify the proposed current-sharing method.

  • A new droop control method which can be applied to 3-phase 4-wire uninterruptible power supply is proposed in this paper. The droop control method for parallel operation is very attractive one as UPS parallel operation can be carried out without any data communication devices provided among UPS systems connected, but it reportedly shows a PnP(plug-and-play) problem. A basic reason why a circulating current could flow among parallel-connected UPS systems is clearly investigated as well when droop-controlled-ups systems are operated in the manner of PnP. The proposed algorithm is deduced from the investigated result and is basically structured to keep a balanced frequency and balanced voltage profile against power variation. This paper shows that balanced parallel operation of droop control method can be obtained under unbalanced load as well as balanced load conditions when PnP operation is needed and load change occurs.

  • This paper investigates the droop control-based real and reactive power load sharing with a virtual inductor when the line impedance between inverter and Point of Common Coupling (PCC) is partly and unequally resistive in high-capacity systems. In this paper, the virtual inductor method is applied to parallel inverter systems with resistive and inductive line impedance. Reactive power sharing error has been improved by applying droop control after considering each line impedance voltage drop. However, in high capacity parallel systems with large output current, the reference output voltage, which is the output of droop controller, becomes lower than the rated value because of the high voltage drop from virtual inductance. Hence, line impedance voltage drop has been added to the droop equation so that parallel inverters operate within the range of rated output voltage. Additionally, the virtual inductor value has been selected via small signal modeling to analyze stability in transient conditions. Finally, the proposed droop method has been verified by MATLAB and PSIM simulation.

  • Microgrid, which can be considered as an integration of various dispersed resources (DRs), is characterized by number of DRs interfaced through the power electronics converters. The microgrid comprising these DRs is often operated in an islanded mode. To minimize the cost, reduce complexity and increase reliability, it is preferred to avoid any communication channel between them. Consequently, the droop control method is traditionally adopted to distribute active and reactive power among the DRs operating in parallel. However, the accuracy of distribution of active and reactive power among the DRs controlled by the conventional droop control approach is highly dependent on the value of line impedance, R/X i.e., resistance to reactance ratio of the line, voltage setting of inverters etc. The limitations of the conventional droop control approach are demonstrated and a modified droop control approach to reduce the effect of impedance mis-match and improve the time response is proposed. The error in reactive power sharing is minimized by inserting virtual impedance in line with the inverters to remove the mis-match in impedance. The improved time response is achieved by modifying the real-power frequency droop using arctan function. Simulations results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the control approach.

  • This paper proposes a wireless parallel operation method of three-phase modular UPS inverter using resistive droop control. Furthermore, it applies a virtual resistor to droop control so that the output impedance of UPS inverter gets closer to resistive. It makes resistive droop control effective. The simulation using PSIM was performed in order to verify the validity of proposed algorithm. After consisting two-parallel system with three-phase modular UPS inverter, the experiment according to resistive load was conducted. It demonstrated the performance of current sharing and power sharing.

  • This paper presents an advanced DC droop using both an output current and a grid current. To control parallel-connected converters without communication, the DC droop control is conventionally used. The conventional DC droop control method droops output voltage using an output current. It cannot control the source current causing output voltage errors. This paper proposed the DC droop method using both an output current and a grid current to improve dynamic response of voltage droops. The simulation results with PSIM is provided.

  • This paper presents a linear droop control scheme based on the generation costs of DGs in an autonomous DC microgrid. Unlike the proportional power sharing of the conventional droop control, in the proposed control algorithm, the minimum output voltage range is adjusted and the droop coefficients are regulated according to the generation costs of DGs. As a result, the DGs with lower costs supplies more power in comparison with those with higher costs. Therefore, total generation cost of the system is reduced significantly. The proposed method is simple to implement and it does not require the centralized controller and communication links.

  • Flow control has been performed using synthetic jet on NACA23012. In order to improve aerodynamic performance, synthetic jet is located near separation paint on airfoil with leading edge droop and plain flap. The flow control using synthetic jet shows that stall characteristics and control surface performance can be improved through resizing separation vortices. Stall is delayed and stall characteristics are improved when synthetic jet is applied from separation region of leading edge droop. Control surface effectiveness is increased and lift is increased when synthetic jet applied at the flap leading edge region. The results show that aerodynamic characteristics can be improved through leading edge droop with synthetic jet at near separation and plain flap with synthetic jet at the flap leading edge. The combination of synthetic jet and simple high lift device is as good as fowler flap system.
