Objectives: Adolescent suicide is a serious social problem. Adolescent alcohol use is one of the most important risk factors for adolescent suicide. This study aimed to identify the relationship between drinking habits and suicide among Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the 14th and 15th Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, conducted in 2018 and 2019, were used for analysis. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify the relationship between drinking habits-including the age of drinking initiation, frequency of drinking, average drinking amount, frequency of drunkenness-and suicidal ideation, plans, and attempts. Results: Even after adjusting for age, sex, school grade, academic achievement, socioeconomic status, depression, stress, and drinking habits, the frequencies of drinking and drunkenness increased the risk of suicide attempts. Suicide attempts were associated with the frequency of drinking in girls and middle school students, and with the frequency of drunkenness in boys and high school students. Conclusion: This study identified associations between drinking habits (the age of drinking initiation, frequency of drinking, average amount of drinking, frequency of drunkenness) and suicidal behavior in adolescents. Our findings suggest that to prevent adolescent suicide, it might be necessary to investigate drinking habits, including the frequencies of drinking and drunkenness. Moreover, considering the differences in sex and school grade, it is important to include the individual group characteristics when evaluating drinking habits.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between drinking motivation, drinking refusal self-efficacy, job stress and problem drinking, and identify contributing factors on employees' problem drinking. Methods: A total of 191 employees recruited from two worksites. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: A 65.5% of employees has shown as hazardous drinking. Employees' problem drinking was significantly influenced by coping motives as a sub-factors of drinking motives (${\beta}$=.25) and social pressure as a sub-factors of drinking refusal self-efficacy(${\beta}$=-.57), explained 51.2% of the total variance. Conclusion: Considering the results of this study, healthy workplace culture for preventing employees' problem drinking should be builded. In addition, alcohol education program and effective employee assistance program need to be developed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing on drinking refusal self-efficacy among university students. Method: The subjects consisted of 228 university students. The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires, which were constructed to include satisfaction of campus life and the DRSEQ-R(Drinking Refusal Self-Efficacy Questionnaire-Revised). Data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC WIN. 12.0 program. Results: The mean score indicating satisfaction of campus life was 3.20, and drinking refusal self-efficacy was 4.36. Satisfaction of campus life was positively correlated with drinking refusal self-efficacy. The gender, social circle, family history of drinking, drinking frequency, drinking quantity, and satisfaction of campus life explained 33.7% of the variance for drinking refusal self-efficacy. Conclusion: The findings suggest that satisfaction of campus life is an important factor for improving drinking refusal self-efficacy in university students. Therefore, strategies should be developed in order to promote drinking refusal self-efficacy and increase satisfaction of campus life in order to prevent drinking problems.

Purpose: This study was done to determine the effect of drinking prevention program on the levels of drinking related knowledge, attitude, drinking refusal self-efficacy and behavior in high school girls. Method: This was nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. The subjects were 133 high school girls who were conveniently assigned to experimental and control group. The data were collected from May to September, 2005 and analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA. Results: 1. The 1st hypothesis, "The drinking-related knowledge score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=256.30, p= .001). 2. The 2nd hypothesis, "The drinking-related attitude score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.35, p= .001). The 3rd hypothesis, "The drinking refusal self-efficacy of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.86, p= .001). 4. The 4th hypothesis, "The number of drinking of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=6.12, p= .015). 5. The 5th hypothesis, "The drinking amount of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=8.52, p= .004). 5. Conclusion: This drinking prevention program was effective in increasing the drinking-related knowledge and attitude, and the drinking refusal self-efficacy, and in reducing the drinking behavior of high school girls.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of smoking and/or alcohol drinking on the nutrient intake, nutritional status, and eating habits of adult males. The subjects were 157 male adults aged 20-49 living in Daejon. Interviews with questionaire on smoking and alcohol drinking habits and eating habits, anthropometric measurement, biochemical blood test, and dietary assessment by one-day 24 hour recall and two-day diet record were carried out. The subjects were divided into four groups : control (non-smoking and non-drinking), drinking only, smoking only, and the both(drinking and smoking). The average numbers of smoked cigarettes were 17.8/d and 19.1/d in the smoking only group and the both group, respectively. The frequency of alcohol drinking was 8.3 times/month and 11.6 times/month in the drinking only group and the both group, respectively. Height was significantly higher(P 0.05) in the drinking only group than in the none and smoking only groups, while the other anthropometric indices were not different among the four groups. There were positive correlations between smoking and drinking or coffee intake. Alcohol drinking increased eating-out frequency and the intakes of energy, protein, dietary fiber, vitamin A, B$_1$,$ B_6,$ Fe and P, while smoking decreased snack frequency and intakes of energy, protein and vitamin $ B_6,$. Blood pressure was not changed in the smoking only and drinking only groups compared to the none group, while systolic blood pressure was elevated in both group(P 0.05). Alcohol drinking significantly elevated(P 0.05) serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholestrol level, while smoking did not change the serum lipid and cholesterol levels. Hemoglobin nd MCHC levels were significantly elevated(P 0.05) by smoking. From these data, it is suggested that both smoking and drinking have influence on some eating habits and nutrient intakes, and especially alcohol drinking can induce hypercholesterolemia.

Objectives: To study about cognitive degree of drinking evil of the department of nursing science students in a partial area. Methods: The data were collected by questionnaire from the 249 nursing science students. The analysis of the data was used by SAS program(ver. 9.2). Technical statistics analysis was used in general characteristics and drinking related characteristics and cognition of objects. T-test was used in cognitive degree of social evil by drinking as characteristics of objects. Logistic regression was used in factors affecting on cognitive degree of social evil by drinking. Results: Cognitive degree of social evil by drinking was low as more drinking related outlay expenses and was high as more moderation in drinking and publicity experience. Conclusions: University and the government authorities must consider the serious and importance of the problem and enforce moderation in drinking and publicity for nursing science students and develop education program and prepare the publicity material.
This is an exploratory study to describe drinking patterns and problem drinking and alcohol-related problem in college students. The major purpose of this study is to describe the prevalence of drinking styles, the quantity of alcohol getting drunken and the describe the frequency of drunkenness in the previous 12months prior to the survey, and to examine the patterns of how various drinking behaviors are different by drinking style. We used the scale for measuring problem drinking NAST(1), AUDIT, indicated that males drank more and more and more frequently, and had episodes of drunkenness and more accepting of drinking than females, the amount of alcohol becoming intoxicated, the frequency and quantity of alcohol consumed in the month, and the frequency of intoxicated were significantly different by drinking styles in both sexes. A problem drinking rate, danger drinker 49.3% dependence drinker 3.5% in ADULT and alcohol dependency 9.7% in NAST(1) It will be necessary to discuss about adequate policy and eucation protrams to be able to curb collegiate's alcohol abuse.

In order to provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention program through the investigation of the knowledge and attitude on drinking of the elementary students, a survey was conducted covering 630 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in 5 elementary schools, in Seoul. Data was collected by using structured questionnaire. The results of the survey analysis were as follows : 1. Among the students under inquiry, $55.4\%$ answered they had the experience of drinking and $1.9\%$ of them enjoy the drinking. 2. The degree of drinking-related knowledge of respondents were 8.41point with the highest score being 13. The score were significantly higher in the students with good school record and higher mothers' educational level than those of other group. 3. With respect to the attitude of students toward adults' drinking, $54.8\%$ responded that inebriated adults in the bus or subway cause inconvenience to others. Students who maintain good school grades, are satisfied with school lives, whose fathers have high educational background or who receive great attention from parents showed more negative and strict attitude toward adults' intoxicated appearance. Concerning the drinking at home, $51.6\%$ of respondents said they hope that adults do not drink at home. Students who have experience of drinking and whose parents drink revealed more generous attitude toward adults' drinking at home than those who do not. With regard to the drinking of friends or senior students, $55.0\%$ of students said they try to stop the drinking. Respondents with no experience of drinking were more generous toward the drinking of friends and colleagues than those who drank before. Students who are in low graded. maintain high school marks, face no problems in school life or receive great attention from parents demonstrated greater disapproval of drinking. Most respondents$(65.3\%)$ said they were not interested in the scene of drinking in mass media. Those having experience of drinking or parents who drink showed more tolerant attitude toward drinking in mass media than those who do not. Students who are in low grades, face many problems in school life or receive small attention from parents showed greater tendency to find the scene of drinking attractive. 4. The more knowledge they get, the more rigid view they had in drinking.
Nowadays drunken drive and other problems related to drinking have been increased in our society. Those problems, we believe, are just the outcomes of undesirable drinking life. To investigate the drinking life of youngsters aged between 20 and 30, 271 university students and workers in Chongju area were surveyed, focusing on attitude toward drinking, drinking behavior and drinking habits. The results are as follows: 1. Youngsters, regardless of their sex, have generous attitude toward drinking. 2. Youngsters usually drink to get along with their friends or fellow workers. 3. The university students drink alone more frequently than the workers do. And to drink alone occurs when they feel mental stress or face difficulties. 4. The university students and the workers do not differ in terms of average drinking frequency per month, the number of pubs they stop by per drinking occasion, and the king of liquor they take. 5. Above 80% of the car owners have experienced the drinking drive. And they tend to smoke more while drinking.
This study was conducted from Nov. 15 to Dec. 20, 1999, covering 630 fourth, fifth. and sixth graders in 5 elementary schools, in Seoul, in order to provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention program. Forth grade was the most frequent year students start drinking$(24.7\%)$. Most of them had their first drinking experience at the family party, a gala day or religious service and accompanied with parents. Beer was the most frequently drank and curiosity was the most common reason to start drinking. 3. As for the drinking experience in terms of general characteristics, the male students were significantly higher in the rate of drinking experience than that of female. 4. As for the drinking experience in terms of environmental characteristics. the students whose parents were drinkers significantly higher in the rate of drinking experience than that of non-drinkers. 5. The intention of the students in future drinking was significantly lower in the non-drinkers with $13.4\%$ than that of drinking experience students with $20.7\%$.
