The purpose of this study is to establish the central hierarchy and urban spatial structure of Daejeon in 2040 using differentiated analysis indicators. In order to establish a central hierarchy in the future urban space of Daejeon City, three indicators were derived: population density, use of buildings (commercial, office, residential, etc.) and traffic volume data(KTDB). The results of analyzing the center hierarchy using indicators are as follows. First, the primary centers responsible for urban (core) functions are set in three areas, including Dunsan downtown, the original downtown (Daejeon Station area, designated as a special urban convergence zone), and Doan New Town, and the secondary centers corresponding to sub-city centers (regional bases). was set at 9, 10 tertiary centers corresponding to regional centers (living area centers), and a center hierarchy was established with 5 new specialized bases. Second, new secondary and tertiary centers emerged that were different from the center hierarchy in the 2030 Daejeon Urban Basic Plan. The three indicators used in this study yielded meaningful results in establishing urban spatial structure and central hierarchy that can secure urban competitiveness.

Seen topographically, Busan is a city that is coastal and hilly. In the city, most parks have been formed around mountain areas that are not so useful. They also are unbalanced in location among different regions of the city. The purpose of this study is to find how to manage urban parks towards green network promotion. For the purpose, this researcher first analyzed physical and environmental characteristics of urban parks located within the main living spheres of Busan. Then, the researcher examined interactive relations between those parks and downtown areas surrounding them to classify types of the parks. In association, the researcher classified the entire of the city into inland and coastal regions. And the researcher examined mountainous and hilly urban parks that were 150 to 300 meters above sea level in the former region and 100 to 150 meters above sea level in the latter. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. The above examination found that parks of Busan feature physically penetrating and overlapping with downtown areas of the city. How well the green zones of Busan in form of urban park are inter-connective and influential to each other heavily depends on shapes and functions that the downtown areas of the city have. In this study, urban parks of Busan were grouped according to their types and then analyzed. Based on results of the analysis, the researcher tried to find how to increase the utility of another urban parks that are expected to be formed and how to promote so-called the green network that integrates greens. Considering findings of the study, the researcher would make the following suggestions. In case of forming an urban park in a gently sloped green zone which is easily accessible and noticeable, it's important that the park should include a stream to which another green zone is converged or, if the park is located near a costal area, contribute to promote urban functions and openness. While, in a high-altitude green zone, it's more effective to form so-called the green way that consists of some limited usable site of the zone and greens behind it and then form a hub of regional community at the intersection between the main road and main gate to the urban park, contributing to the green network promotion.

In Korea, the Seoul subway line 1 was opened in 1974 and the subway service is being operated in Seoul, Pusan, Daegu, Daejeon, and Inchon. The subway station is related to a underground shopping mall that was developed as complex spaces. According to the time of people's stay at the underground space, the necessity about the safety countermeasure of the underground space has been enlarged. Therefore the result of this study is t propose guidelines for improving the evacuation safety performance in underground subway stations.
The aim of this study is to clarify the provision for later life and needs for elderly housing according to the cognitional attitude about the elderly housing. 420 middle aged who lived in Kyungnam area were responded to self-questionnaire. Two groups are divided by the cognitional attitude about the elderly housing, one is positive group and the other is negative. The positive group is higher monthly income, upper college school career and apartment housing types. Economic means to provide for their later life are an insurance, a saving, a pension etc. The positive group is willing to do higher economic expenses for elderly housing in downtown or suburban area. And the positive group prefers rental with a deposit to ownership type for residing elderly housing.
The design of high-depth and large-section tunnel facilities has been increased lately. The purpose of the design is to avoid inference of existing facilities, enhance public relations and reducing the size of the station, which is advantageous for effective use of underground spaces. Diverse downtown tunnel experience, advanced excavation equipment, reinforcement methods, monitoring technologies and numerical analysis made the design possible. This paper is to introduce the design of high-depth and large-section tunnel facilities via Gimpo airport area of Deagok-Sosa railway BTL project of double-tracking.
According to opening the domestic existing lines and High-Speed Lines(HSL) depending on each section and phase-in, there were constructed in railway over state-of-the-art radio communication networks. Therefore, there have been 3 wireless communication networks in domestic railways in accordance with running sections as like VHF, TRS-ASTRO and TRS-TETRA. For instance, the VHF networks were constructed in exsiting lines and TRS-ASTRO were Kyungbu HSL phase-1 except Seoul-Kwangmyung section, downtown in Daejeon City and that of Daegu City. And it was constructed in DongDaegu-Busan section of Kyungbu HSL phase-2, Osong-Kwangju section of Honam HSL phase-1 and would be done in Kwangju-Mokpo of Hanam HSL phase-2 and Soosu-Pyungtaek of Metropolitan Area Line by TRS-TETRA. In this paper, we described some important problems of radio communication management and investigated current state of radio communication for railways. Moreover, we presented the necessity of integrated radio networks for domestic railways.
The annual variations of the urban heat island in Busan is investigated using surface temperature data measured at 3 automatic weather stations(AWSs) for the 5 years period, 2006 to 2010. Similar to previous studies, the intensity of the urban heat island is calculated using the temperature difference between downtown(Busanjin, Dongnae) and suburb(Gijang). The maximum hourly mean urban heat island are $1.4^{\circ}C$ at Busanjin site, 2300LST and $1.6^{\circ}C$ at Dongnae site, 2100LST. It occurs more often at Dongnae than Busanjin. Also the maximum hourly mean urban heat island appears in November at both sites. The urban heat island in Busan is stronger in the nighttime than in the daytime and decreases with increasing wind speed, but it is least developed in summer. Also it partly causes the increasement of nighttime PM10 concentration.
Mix-used development in urban renewal project is done to effectively utilize the limited downtown. Generally unlike a single project, It features placing a large number of different facilities(residential, commercial, business, cultural, etc.) which is each other organically linked. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of modeling guide for 3D preliminary cost estimation considering visual and intuitive judgement of space in mix-used development Urban Renewal project. In this research, introducing SME(Standard Module and Element) breakdown structure, FID(Finish Identity) for estimating building space unit-based quantity take off was implemented. It could narrow the discrepancy of opinion between the stakeholders with more accurate cost-estimates, comparing to the traditional methods.
This study aimed at exploring the cultural ways to develope the under-space of overpass in the downtown area which has been considered as a dead, unhealthy place. The study process consists of 4 methodological stages. literature review, case study on environmental design of under-space of overpass, questionnaire and statistical analysis and specific study on regional context were conducted to understand the problems of the space and the needs of the community and visitors. The final suggestion based on the research are the natural rest settings including pocket parks with trees and fountain as well as cultural settings with small sized outdoor gallery and open performance stage which can be managed by the community members. The findings of this study would help the dead space in the center of the city regenerate the community in terms of physical, cultural and social environments. Also, this study will show the importance and the methodological approach of the research for the development of the hidden potential space of the city.
This research explored contemporary cities and children's lives in picture books by a survey of 71 picture books published and translated into Korean from 1996 to 2006. These books represented city or urban life as their settings with children or personified animals as their main characters. They were classified by four categories. Results were the city space that most frequently appeared in the picture books were streets (73%) including downtown (38%) and back streets (6%). Emotions displayed by children in the city were mainly negative feelings (60%) including fear, worry, sadness, and boredom. The most important issue was alienation (28.5%). Main characters barely managed to cope with life in the city (76%).
