A numerical study was carried out to investigate the 'unstart' process of thermally-choked combustion in model scramjet engines. The combustion mechanism of supersonic combustor will be compared with the experimental results obtained from the T3 free-piston shock tunnel at ANU (Australian National University) and the high enthalpy supersonic wind tunnel at UT (University of Tokyo). For the numerical simulation of supersonic combustion. multi-species Navier-Stokes equations were considered. and detailed chemistry reaction mechanism of $H_2$-Air were adopted. The governing equations were solved by Roe's FDS method and LU-SGS method with MUSCL scheme. In this study. it is found that the thermal choking process could result from excessive heat release due to combustion. In detail, sufficient heat release could be generated at local region of very high temperature increased by reflection of shock waves or vortex sheets. Accordingly the flow of downstream of the combustor fell to subsonic field propagated upstream along the combustor. Sometimes the subsonic flow field propagated into isolator could generate precombustion shock waves in the isolator.

A non-thermal plasma process combined with $Cr_2O_3/TiO_2$ catalyst was applied to the decomposition of trichloroethylene (TCE). A dielectric barrier discharge reactor operated with AC high voltage was used as the non-thermal plasma reactor. The effects of reaction temperature and input power on the decomposition of TCE and the formation of byproducts including HCl, $Cl_2$, CO, NO, $NO_2$ and $O_3$ were examined. At an identical input power, the increase in the reaction temperature from 373 K to 473 K decreased the decomposition of TCE in the plasma reactor. The presence of the catalyst downstream the plasma reactor not only enhanced the decomposition of TCE but also affected the distribution of byproducts, significantly. However, synergistic effect as a result of the combination of non-thermal plasma with catalyst was not observed, i.e., the TCE decomposition efficiency in this plasma-catalyst combination system was almost similar to the sum of those obtained with each process.

Since mold industries are regarded as belonging to three types of bad business, capable young people are reluctant to work in this field. The industries are hard to employ skilled workers who have much experience and knowledge On the mold manufacturing. Thus, effective CAM systems are required for unskilled workers to create process plans and NC data for the manufacturing, and process plans play important roles in the downstream manufacturing processes, such as NC machining, polishing, and final assembly. This study proposes a decision support system that facilitates unskilled workers to easily select high quality NC-data, as well as to increase productivity. The proposed system is assumed to follow a CAM operation scenario that consists of next three steps: 1) identifying several process plans and enumerating feasible unit machining operations (UMOs) from material and part surface information, 2) creating all feasible NC-data based on UMOs using a commercial CAM system, 3) selecting the best NC data among the feasible NC data using four screening criteria, such as machining accuracy, machining allowance, cutting load, and processing time. A case study on the machining of a camera core mold is provided to demonstrate the proposed system.
This paper presents the development and application of a riparian buffer zone design model(RBZDM). The model was developed as a decision-making tool for watershed management, by integrating geographic information system(GIS) and analytical hierarchy process(AHP) theory. Several factors for watershed management, such as pollution removal capacity, land aquisition cost, distribution of point and non-point pollution sources, and possibility of new pollution source location, were analyzed based on AHP theory. The vegetated buffer zone width was designed using GIS-based riparian buffer analysis. The developed model was applied to the Kyoungan Stream watershed, which is an important part of Paldang lake catchment area. The Kyoungan stream watershed was divided into sixteen subbasins. Six of them belong to the main stem, where the model was applied. Ten alternatives of buffer zone width and five hierarchial levels were designed. The relative importance and the relative preference were computed by pair-wise comparison of evaluation criteria given in hierarchial levels. The buffer zone width was determined by linear function of the given alternatives and relative preferences. From this study, it was determined that the six buffer zone widths of Kyoungan main stems would be 1,594, 1,744, 1,856, 1,782, 1,338, 1,780 meter, from upstream to downstream.

In the planar flow casting(PFC) process, the conditions of the melt puddle between nozzle and rotating wheel affect significantly the quality and dimensional uniformity of the downstream ribbon. For stable puddle formation, the nozzle is placed very close to the quenching wheel, so the surface-tension and wall-adhesion forces have an important effect upon the fluid flow.\`In this study the planar flow casting process has been mode]ed using the VOF method for free surface tracking. The transient puddle formation from the present analysis shows good agreements with the previous experimental results. Furthermore, the variation of melt temperature and the corresponding cooling rate of the melt have been examined. The present results also show how the melt puddle can be farmed on the rotating substrate, how the melt flows within the puddle, and how the changes of the process variables affect the puddle formation and its corresponding fluid flow and heat transfer behavior.
The integration of CAD/CAM/CAE in product development is the key to realize concurrent engineering. Generally, different systems are employed in product development departments. These different systems create a lot of trout)toes such as difficulty in communication, misunderstanding and so on. A new approach to integrate CAD/CAM/CAE in one system based on CATIA thor the end-to-end process in cylinder head development is presented. Hulti Model Technology (MMT) is used to create consistent and associated CAD models for the end-to-end process in cylinder head development. The concept and method to create and organize multi models are discussed. A typical four-layer structure of HHT for mechanical products is defined. The multi level structure of the cylinder head models based on MMT is provided. The CAD models of cylinder head created based on MMT can be used as the consistent model. All models in the downstream of cylinder head development such as structure analysis, CFD, sand core design , casting simulation and so oil are associated with the CAD models. Practice shows the approach in this paper enables the development process to be carried concurrently and can obviously shorten time to the market, reduce product cost and improve product quality.

An experimental study is conducted for unsteady wet steam flow in a four-stage low-pressure test steam turbine. The measurements are carried out at outlets of the last two stages by using a newly developed fast response aerodynamic probe. This FRAP-HTH probe (Fast Response Aerodynamic Probe - High Temperature Heated) has a miniature high-power cartridge heater with an active control system to heat the probe tip, allowing it to be applied to wet steam measurements. The phase-locked average results obtained with a sampling frequency of 200 kHz clarify the flow characteristics, such as the blade wakes and secondary vortexes, downstream from the individual rotational blades in the wet steam environment.

Process analysis was carried out during deposition of MgO by inductively coupled plasma assisted reactive magnetron sputtering in Ar and $O_2$ ambient. At the initiation of Mg sputtering with bipolar pulsed dc power in Ar ambient, total pressure showed sharp increase and then slow fall. To analyse partial pressure change, QMS was used in downstream region, where the total pressure was maintained as low as $10^{-5}$ Torr during plasma processing, good for ion source and quadrupole operation. At base pressure, the major impurity was $H_2O$ and the second major impurity was $CO/N_2$ about 10%. During sputtering of Mg in Ar, $H_2$ soared up to 10.7% of Ar and remained as the major impurity during all the later process time. When $O_2$ was mixed with Ar, the partial pressure of Ar decreased in proportion to $O_2$ flow rate and that of $H_2$ dropped down to 2%. It was understood as Mg target surface was oxidized to stop $H_2$ emission by Ar ion sputtering. With ICP turned on, the major impurity $H_2$ was converted into $H_2O$ consuming $O_2$ and C was also oxidized to evolve CO and $CO_2$.
The objective of this research was to test whether, under controlled laboratory conditions, hybrid SNCR/SCR process improves N $O_{x}$ removal efficiency in comparison with the SNCR only. The hybrid process is a combination of a redesigned existing SNCR with a new downstream SCR. N $O_{x}$ reduction experiments using a hybrid SNCR/SCR process have been conducted in simple NO/N $H_3$/ $O_2$ gas mixtures. Total gas flow rate was kept constant 4 liter/min throughout the SNCR and SCR reactors, where initial N $O_{x}$ concentration was 500 ppm in the presence of 5% or 15% $O_2$. Commercial catalysts, $V_2$$O_{5}$ -W $O_3$-S $O_4$/Ti $O_2$, were used for SCR N $O_{x}$ reduction. The residence time and space velocity were around 1.67 seconds and 2,400 $h^{-1}$ or 6000 $h^{-1}$ in SNCR and SCR reactors, respectively. N $O_{x}$ reduction of the hybrid system was always higher than could be achieved by SNCR alone at a given value of N $H_{3SLIP}$. Optimization of the hybrid system performance requires maximizing N $O_{x}$ removal in the SNCR process. An analysis based on the hybrid system performance in this lab-scale work indicates that a equipment with N $O_{xi}$ =500 ppm will achieve a total N $O_{x}$ removal of about 90 percent with N $H_{3SLIP}$$\leq$ 5 ppm only if the SNCR N $O_{x}$ reduction is at least 60 percent. A hybrid SNCR/SCR process has shown about 26∼37% more N $O_{x}$ reduction than a SNCR unit process in which a lower temperature of 85$0^{\circ}C$ turned out to be more effective.be more effective.
Spatial and temporal changes of fish communities were studied at four study sites in the Cheonggye Stream from October 2005 to August 2006 after the rehabilitation process. During the survey period, 19 species in 6 families were sampled. Species Rhynchocypris oxycephalus and Zacco platypus were identified as dominant species. Korean endemic species such as Acheilognathus yamatsutae and Zacco koreanus were observed in the sites. Overall, species richness and abundance increased as time passes after the rehabilitation, reflecting colonization process of the fish community. Meanwhile species richness and abundance were higher at the downstream than at the upstream. Community indices such as dominant index, richness index and diversity index showed also similar spatial and temporal pattern. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS), multivariate ordination technique, was used to analyze spatial and temporal variation of the fish communities, and the results showed spatial variation of fish communities with high species richness at downstream as well as the temporal variation of fish communities with high values of species richness and diversity index at later part of the study period, presenting colonization process of the fish community after the rehabilitation project.
