  • Purpose: Research on equity carve-outs is necessary because the market has realized that they lead to holding company discounts by double counting, which can only be observed in the Korean market. Considering the differences in the SSG.com equity carve-out compared to previous cases in terms of business strategy, this study contributes to the literature by examining the effects on shareholder value in the Korean distribution industry. Research design, data, and methodology: This study investigated literature, analyst reports, and news articles to examine the causes of holding company discounts and analyze the SSG.com equity carve-out. Results: The monopoly of holding companies' listing premiums is the main cause underlying holding company discounts from equity carve-outs. Protections for minority shareholder value are challenging owing to the complexity of the process of acquiring rights, the short exercise period, and additional costs. Therefore, the motivation for equity carve-outs should be to increase overall shareholder value. Conclusion: By analyzing the reasons for holding company discounts in the Korean distribution industry, this study provides recommendations for improving shareholder value. Moreover, it contributes to the maturation of the Korean capital market by promoting a discussion on the revision of equity carve-outs.

  • In many intrusion detection applications, n-gram approach has been widely applied. However, n-gram approach has shown a few problems including unscalability and double counting of features. To address those problems, we applied n-gram augmented Naive Bayes with k-truncated suffix tree (k-TST) storage mechanism directly to classify intrusive sequences and compared performance with those of Naive Bayes and Support Vector Machines (SVM) with n-gram features by the experiments on host-based intrusion detection benchmark data sets. Experimental results on the University of New Mexico (UNM) benchmark data sets show that the n-gram augmented method, which solves the problem of independence violation that happens when n-gram features are directly applied to Naive Bayes (i.e. Naive Bayes with n-gram features), yields intrusion detectors with higher accuracy than those from Naive Bayes with n-gram features and shows comparable accuracy to those from SVM with n-gram features. For the scalable and efficient counting of n-gram features, we use k-truncated suffix tree mechanism for storing n-gram features. With the k-truncated suffix tree storage mechanism, we tested the performance of the classifiers up to 20-gram, which illustrates the scalability and accuracy of n-gram augmented Naive Bayes with k-truncated suffix tree storage mechanism.

  • The smear media possible to sampling and radiation detection was prepared and evaluated for the surface contamination using indirect method. The films were made by impregnating Cerium Activated Yttrium Silicate (CAYS) in a polysulfone membrane. The membranes used solution as a dimethylformamide (DMF) and methylene chloride (MC), polysulfone as a polymer matrix and CAYS as a inorganic scintillator. The proximity membranes were prepared with single- and double-layered structure. The solidified methods were immersion to the nonsolvent bath such at water and ethanol and solvent evaporation. The measurement of the photon produced by interaction with radiation and inorganic scintillator used a photomultiflier tube (PMT), amplifier, and counter. In the comparison with the low background alpha/beta counter, the counter rate using inorganic scintillator proximity membrane for the $\^$14/C surface contamination was about 50%. Also. the $^3$H counting results revealed that the prepared membranes were efficient to monitor the surface contaminated with the low energy be-ray emitter nuclides.

  • The endemic status of clonorchiasis and metagonimiasis along the Geum gang (River) in Okcheon-gun (County) in Korea was examined. From February to December 7000, stools of total 1,081 inhabitants living in 5 villages were examined. Each stool specimen was examined by both the cellophane thick smear method and the formalin-ether sedimentation technique. Egg-positive cases were further analyzed by Stoll's egg-counting technique. and praziquantel was administered to positive cases. The egg-positive rates for Clonorchis sinensis and Metafonimus species were 9.3% and 5.5%, respectively, and the double infection rate was 3.5%. The numbers of eggs per gram (EPG) of feces of C. sinensis and Metafoninus sp. were $918{\pm}1,463$ and $711{\pm}947$, respectively. The egg-positive rates for C. sinensis and Metagoninus sp. in the riverside area were 14.2% and 8.4%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of the inland area (3.2% and 1.7%. respectively). The egg-positive rates of C. sinensis and Metagoninus sp. in males (16.7% and 10.0%) were significantly higher than those of females (3.5% and 1.8%) However, there were no significant differences of EPG values between localities and sexes. The prevalence of clonorchiasis and metagonimiasis in this survey was significantly lower than that in the previous reports. However. there is still a high prevalence of infection with C. sinensis and Metagoninus sp. in this region. especially in the riverside area.

  • To avoid ambiguity in counting the number of colony, about 1,500 of colonies grown on B. cereus selective agar plates were grouped into 12 types by morphological difference and then identified by biochemical and 16S rDNA nucleotide sequence. Among them, seven colony types with 11 to 15 mm diameters of halo were identified as B. cereus or B. cereus subsp. cytotoxis. Five mm sized colonies with no halo, which have not been considered as B. cereus according to the manufacturer's manual, were identified as B. cereus. A colony type with double halos of only 6 mm in diameter was also B. cereus. Other three types were proven to be Enterococcus sp., Brevibacillus sp., and B. subtilis, respectively. PCR results showed that only 9 types that are identified as B. cereus strains harbor at least one of B. cereus toxin genes.

  • The goal of this research was to find out the effect of dispensing error prevention program on the incidence of the error in a university hospital pharmacy in Daegu. Dispensing error in this research was defined as the error identified during double-checking process, so it does not mean that the wrong dispensing was administered to patient. Drug name error was the most frequently found error, accounting for about one third of all dispensing errors, and was followed by counting error, strength error, dosage form error, and others. Similar drug name was identified as the most frequent reason for the error, taking up about two thirds of all drug name errors. In this research, six months of dispensing error prevention program resulted in statistically significant reduction of dispensing error by 42 percent. Therefore, it is recommended that hospital pharmacy implement such prevention program regularly to reduce the incidence of the error. Finally, it appears that drug approval authority should closely check the similar drug names and have power to command pharmaceutical company to change the name if pertinent.

  • In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, smart construction, in which new technologies such as UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) are fused, is attracting attention in the construction field. However, the method of estimating earthwork volume using DEM generated by UAV survey according to practical regulations such as construction design guidelines or standard product counting is not officially recognized and needs to be improved. In this study, different types of UAV were measured and DEM was obtained using this data. The DEM (Digital Elevation Model) thus obtained was analyzed for changes in the amount of earthworks according to the size of the GSD (Ground Sample Distance). In addition, the amount of earthwork by DEM and the amount of earthwork by existing design drawings were compared and analyzed. As a result of the study, it was suggested that images with a GSD of 5cm or less are effective to generate a high-quality DEM. Next, as a result of comparing the earthwork volume calculation method using DEM and the earthwork volume based on the existing 2D design drawings, a difference of about 1% was shown. In addition, when the design earthwork amount calculated by the double-section averaging method was compared with the designed earthwork amount using DEM data by UAV survey, a difference of about 1% was found. Therefore, it is suggested that the method of calculating the amount of earthworks using UAV is an efficient method that can replace the existing method.

  • Electronic voting machines (EVMs) are replacing research ballots due to the errors involved in the manual counting process and the lengthy time required to count the votes. Even though these digital recording electronic systems are advancements, they are vulnerable to tampering and electoral fraud. The suspected vulnerabilities in EVMs are the possibility of tampering with the EVM's memory chip or replacing it with a fake one, their simplicity, which allows them to be tampered with without requiring much skill, and the possibility of double voting. The vote data is shared among all network devices, and peer-to-peer verification is performed to ensure the vote data's authenticity. To successfully tamper with the system, all of the data stored in the nodes must be changed. This improves the proposed system's efficiency and dependability. Elections and voting are fundamental components of a democratic system. Various attempts have been made to make modern elections more flexible by utilizing digital technologies. The fundamental characteristics of free and fair elections are intractability, immutability, transparency, and the privacy of the actors involved. This corresponds to a few of the many characteristics of blockchain-like decentralized ownership, such as chain immutability, anonymity, and distributed ledger. This working research attempts to conduct a comparative analysis of various blockchain technologies in development and propose a 'Blockchain-based Electronic Voting System' solution by weighing these technologies based on the need for the proposed solution. The primary goal of this research is to present a robust blockchain-based election mechanism that is not only reliable but also adaptable to current needs.
