  • The orientational and dynamic behavior of liquid crystal molecules on the alignment layer surfaces of liquid crystal display (LCD) devices is crucial to their performance, but there are only a few methods of experimentally elucidating the interactions between the liquid crystals and the alignment layers. Inspired by the natural and technical similarities between membrane proteins in lipid bilayers and liquid crystals in LCDs, we employed solid-state NMR methodologies originally developed for the study of membrane proteins in lipid bilayers for the in-situ analysis of liquid crystal display panels. • In this paper, two types of $2\times2$ Rx/Tx microstrip patch antenna are proposed to implement Ku-band satellite communications. The single-fed dual resonance patch antenna as the first type derives perpendicular polarizations at two resonant frequencies from a single patch radiator, using aperture coupling via a bended single-feeding line and a cross-shaped slot. The double-fed dual resonance patch antenna as the second type implements dual resonance with mutually orthogonal polarizations by mixing the two feeding mechanisms of the microstrip line and the aperture coupling. Especially, in the double-fed dual resonance antenna case, air-gap is introduced to broaden the bandwidth. Through measurement, each of the two types of antenna was verified to function properly both Rx and Tx. The double-fed dual resonance antenna shows excellent performance in the bandwidth and the crosspolarization characteristics.

  • A new structure of double-resonant cylindrical monopole is proposed for multiple band applications. Multiple band property for the proposed antenna is achieved by adjusting the coupling structure of the antenna base for a double resonance. Measured results of the proposed antenna are compared with those of wire and thick cylinder monopoles.

  • The objective of this paper is to introduce the noise reduction characteristics of a double gap system, which is composed of two air-gaps and two partition sheets. The resonance of acoustic modes of an enclosed cavity can be effectively suppressed by installing the double gap system in the cavity. It is revealed from a simple, one-dimensional model that the double gap system is more effective than the single gap system that consists of one air-gap and one partition sheet, in that the former requires a smaller space than the latter. Finally, these theoretical conclusions are verified by comparison experiments using an actually manufactured enclosed cavity, of which the boundary surfaces are made of thick panels that can be assumed as rigid walls.

  • This study used an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) dry etching process with a metal amplitude mask to fabricate a double-side notched long-period fiber grating (DNLPFG) for loading sensing. The DNLPFG exhibited increasing resonance attenuation loss for a particular wavelength when subjected to loading. When the DNLPFG was subjected to force loading, the transmission spectra were changed, showing a with wavelength shift and resonance attenuation loss. The experimental results showed that the resonant dip of the DNLPFG increased with increasing loading. The maximum resonant dip of the $40-{\mu}m$ DNLPFG sensor was -26.522 dB under 0.049-N loading, and the largest force sensitivity was -436.664 dB/N. The results demonstrate that the proposed DNLPFG has potential for force sensing applications.

  • We present the double resonance optical pumping(DROP) spectra in the transition 5P$_{3}$2/-4D$_{3}$2/ and 5P$_{3}$2/-4D$_{5}$ 2/ of ($^{87}$ Rb) and the frequency stabilization in the $1.5mutextrm{m}$ region using those spectra. Those spectra have high signal-to-noise ratio and narrow spectral linewidth, which is about 10 MHz. We could account fur the relative intensities of the hyperfine states of those spectra by the spontaneous emission into the other state. When the frequency of the $1.5mutextrm{m}$ laser diode was stabilized to the DROP spectrum, the frequency fluctuation was about 0.2 MHz fDr sampling time of 0.1 s and the Allan deviation(or the square root of the Allan variance) was about 1${\times}$10$^{-11}$ for averaging time of l00s.
