  • In this paper, a double balanced gilbert cell MMIC mixer was realized in Tachyonics SiGe HBT technology. The fabricated mixer has 17 dB conversion gain, 9.8 dB noise figure, -4.2 dBm output 1 dB compression point, -27 dBc RF to IF isolation, and the good input, output matching characteristics. It draws 10 mA from a 3 V supply. The simulation and the measured results are closer to each other, which confirms accuracy of the model library and reliability of the process.

  • Fatigue tests and analyses were carried out to investigate fatigue strength and crack initiation point of load-carrying asymmetric double bevel cruciform welded joints. Mesh-insensitive structural stress approach was adopted to estimate high precise fatigue life and crack initiation point. Two different case material and weld shape were considered in this study. Results of fatigue tests and analyses were compared and discussed in consideration of applicability of structural stress approach as the reliable fatigue assessment method of cruciform welded joints.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient retrieval technique using the feature value of the corner region, which is one of the shape information attributes of images. The proposed algorithm extracts the edges and corner points of the image and rearranges the feature values of the corner regions doubly, and then measures the similarity with the image in the database using the correlation of these feature values as the feature vector. The proposed algorithm is confirmed to be more robust to rotation and size change than the conventional image retrieval method using the corner point.

  • The concept of reliability has been applied to the topology optimization based on a reliability index approach or a performance measure approach. Since these approaches, called double-loop single vector approach, require the nested optimization problem to obtain the most probable point in the probabilistic design domain, the time for the entire process makes the practical use infeasible. In this work, new reliability-based topology optimization method is proposed by utilizing single-loop single-vector approach, which approximates searching the most probable point analytically, to reduce the time cost. The results of design examples show that the proposed method provides efficiency curtailing the time for the optimization process and accuracy satisfying the specified reliability.

  • Frame is one of the most commonly used structural systems for the resistance of applied loads. Many researchers have recently conducted their studies to investigate the effect of several parameters such as the connection flexibility, boundary condition of each support, beam-to-column stiffness ratio. These parameters play important roles on the characteristic behavior of frames. A simplified spring model is proposed to obtain the story drifts of frames with various beam-to-column connection stiffnesses in this research. A point bracing system with adequate spring stiffness is also suggested to establish the relationship between the applied load and the resisting translational spring stiffness within the limit state of story drift.

  • The effects of the charged metal on the overall electrostatic potential profiles and the capacitances of the electrical double layer are brought out. A model with a simplified jellium and a point-charged electrolyte is utilized in the present calculations. Electrons are assumed not to penetrate electrode surface due to a strong screening of electrolyte at the interface. Electron density functions and ion density functions are obtained, which are also based upon the Poisson equation and Boltzmann equation on either side of the interface. A complete potential profile starting from bulk electrode and ending at bulk electrolyte is obtained by connecting the two potential profiles (one inside the metal electrode, the other inside the electrolyte) with proper boundary conditions. In spite of the simplicity of the model, the present model reveals the importance of the effect of the charged metal on the electrostatic potential profile and the electrical double layer capacitances. The results are discussed and compared with the predictions by Gouy Chapman theory.

  • Palmprint has become a popular biometric modality; however, palmprint recognition has not been conducted in video media. Video palmprint recognition (VPR) has some advantages that are absent in image palmprint recognition. In VPR, the registration and recognition can be automatically implemented without users' manual manipulation. A good-quality image can be selected from the video frames or generated from the fusion of multiple video frames. VPR in contactless mode overcomes several problems caused by contact mode; however, contactless mode, especially mobile mode, encounters with several revere challenges. Double-line-single-point (DLSP) assisted placement technique can overcome the challenges as well as effectively reduce the localization error and computation complexity. This paper modifies DLSP technique to reduce the invalid area in the frames. In addition, the valid frames, in which users place their hands correctly, are selected according to finger gap judgement, and then some key frames, which have good quality, are selected from the valid frames as the gallery samples that are matched with the query samples for authentication decision. The VPR algorithm is conducted on the system designed and developed on mobile device.

  • In this paper, we study the existence of mild solutions for double perturbed impulsive neutral functional evolution equations with infinite delay in Banach spaces. The existence of mild solutions to such equations is obtained by using the theory of the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness and Darbo fixed point theorem, without the compactness assumption on associated evolution system. An example is provided to illustrate the theory.

  • Purpose: To investigate the ability of double TMJ view by multifunctional panorama to view the bony components and the space of the temporomandibular joint. Materials and Methods: Ten dry skulls fitted with resin shims over the articular surface of the condyle were used to reproduce the temporomandibular joint space. Fine metal wires were attached to the three portions of contours of the condylar head and the articular eminence. With 10 dry skulls and 20 cases having TMJ dysfunction, double TMJ views by multifunctional panorama (Planmeca 2002 Proline CC) and transcranial views were taken, analyzed from the anatomical view point, and compared statistically in view of the widths of the posterior joint space and the condylar head. Results: In double TMJ view, the supero-anterior part of the condyle represented the lateral 1/3, the most superior part represented center portion, and the posterior part medial l/3 of the condyle. In maximum mouth opening, no other structures were superimposed with the condyle in double TMJ view. In double TMJ view, petrous bone was moderately superimposed with the superior part of the condyle and the posterior increment of angle exposure made wider the images of the articular eminence and the condyle. The tendency of reduction in the posterior joint space appeared in the side of TMJ dysfunction compared with the normal side. The posterior joint spaces in double TMJ view were statistically wider (p<0.05) than those in transcranial view. The correlation coefficient was 0.5179 between the widths of the posterior joint spaces in two radiographic views. Conclusions: Double TMJ view can be substituted for transcranial view in evaluating the TMJ dysfunction.
