  • 2-Furancarboxaldehyde-2-pyridinylhydrazone (FPH) and 5-methyl-2-furancarboxaldehyde-2-pyridinylhydrazone (MFPH) were synthesized and used as tridentate ligands of copper (I) bromide for the atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene. The polymerization of methyl methacrylate achieved high conversion and yielded polymers with a good control of molecular weight and low polydispersity (PDI=1.33). Higher PDI were observed in the polymerization of styrene. Using 1-phenyl ethylbromide (PEBr) and ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate (EBiB) as model compounds for the polymeric chain ends, the activation rate constants of the new catalytic systems were measured. These results were correlated with the polymerization results and compared with another catalytic system previously reported.

  • Some mononuclear oxovanadium(IV) complexes having the general formula [VOL(bidentate)] (1-4) of which L is tridentate ONS-donor salicylaldehyde S-methyldithiocarbazate (sal-mdtc$^{2-}$) or salicylaldehyde 4- phenylthiosemicarbazate (sal-phtsc$^{2-}$) and bidentate stands for 2,2'-bipyridyl (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, FAB mass, UV, IR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Two of the complexes [VO(sal-mdtc)(bpy)] (1) and [VO(sal-mdtc) (phen)] (2) were crystallographically characterized. The structures revealed that vanadium atom is octahedrally coordinated by the O, N, and S donor atoms of the tridentate ligand, the two N atoms of bidentate ligand, and the oxo atom. The oxygen donor, occupying an apical position has a trans-labilizing effect, resulting in elongation of the V-N bond. The cyclic voltammograms of the complexes exhibited one cathodic response in the range −d1.45 $\sim$ −f1.52 V due to the reduction of V(IV) to V(III).

  • In this review, previous studies on the synthesis and characterization of the metal Complexes with paracetamol by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, (IR, NMR and UV-Vis (spectroscopy and conductivity. In reviewing these studies, the authors found that paracetamol can be coordinated through the pair of electrons on the hydroxyl O-atom, carbonyl O-atom, and N-atom of the amide group. If the paracetamol was a monodentate ligand, it will be coordinated by one of the following atoms O-hydroxyl, O-carbonyl or N-amide. But if the paracetamol was bidentate, it is coordinated by atoms (O-carbonyl and N-amide), (O-hydroxyl and N-amide) or (O-carbonyl and O-hydroxyl). The authors also found that free paracetamol and its complexes have antimicrobial activity.

  • Ligand field analyses for tris(biuret)chromium(III) chloride and hexaureachromium(III) bromide were performed and compared to understand the ligand field properties of both ligands. The optimized eσO and eπO values indicate that coordinated oxygen atom in biuret ligand is a moderate s- and strong p-donor, while that in urea ligand is a weak σ- and moderate π-donor. The electronic structures of those two complexes are quite different and they were well accounted by inclusion of an anisotropic p bonding.

  • Six-coordinate molybdenum(V) complexes X[MoO$(NCS)_2$(L)], where X=$PyH^+$, $Me_4N^+$, $Et_4N^+$, n-$Bu_4N^+$, and L= the tridentate schiff base dianions derived from the condensation reaction between various salicylaldehydes and 2-aminophenol have been synthesized. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, UV-visible, IR, $^1H$-NMR, and mass spectroscopy. The coordination around the molybdenum appears to be distorted octahedral. A tridentate ligand containing the ONO donor atoms occupies meridional positions with the N atom trans to the terminal oxo group. Two NCS ligands bond to the molybdenum through the N atom and are cis to the Mo = $O_t$ group. The electrochemical behaviors of the complexes have also been investigated by cyclic voltammetry in dimethylsulfoxide.

  • Some new metal(II) complexes, $M^{II}L_2$ [M = Mn (1), Co (2), Ni (3), Cu (4), and Zn (5)] of 2-acetylpyridine benzoylhydrazone ligand (HL) containing trifunctional NNO-donor system have been synthesized and crystallographically characterized for the complex 1 and 5. The complexes consist of two ligands to give sixcoordinate, which are bonded to the metal atom on a meridional plane through acetylpyridine ring nitrogen, azomethine nitrogen, and benzoyl oxygen atoms, respectively. The coordination geometry for other complexes was identified on the basis of the physicochemical data by elemental analyses, FAB -MS, IR, $^1H$ NMR, and electronic spectral measurements. The resulting data indicated that the complexes are accordance with the above formulation.

  • Cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes of trifunctional amino acid and N,N'-diethylethylenediamine-N,N'-di-α-butyrate(deedba), s-cis-[Co(deedba)(L-aa)] (L-aa=S-methyl-L-cysteine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid) have been prepared from the reaction between the s-cis-[Co(deedba)(Cl2)]- complex and the corresponding amino acid. The amino acids have been found to coordinate through the amine and carboxylate groups. The S-methyl-L-cystene is coordinated not by the sulfur donor atom, but by the nitrogen and oxgen donor atoms, and the L-aspartic and L-glutamic acids are coordinated to the cobalt(Ⅲ) ion via formation of the five-membered glycinate chelate ring. Relatively small optical activity shown by the complexes is due to the chiral center present in the amino acids.

  • Using semiempirical molecular orbital method, ASED-MO of extended Huckel Theory, we were investigated chemical bonds and electronic properties of Cu atom in a chain and a layer for Y123 and Y124 superconductors from VEP (valence electron population), DOS (density of state), and COOP (crystal orbital overlap population). In order to investigate environmental effects of Cu atom for Y123 and Y124 superconductors, we introduced charged cluster models with point charge and without point charge into our calculations. As a result of ASED-MO calculations, the Cu atom in the layer acts as electron acceptor and the Cu atom in the chain acts as electron donor for Y123 and Y124 superconductors. The oxidation state of Cu atom for Y123 and Y124 superconductors without point charge is higher in the chain than in the layer. The oxidation state of Cu atom in the layer for Y123 superconductor is higher than that in the layer for Y124 superconductor. The Cu atom in the layer and the chain for Y123 superconductor does not largely affect on the environmental effect. However, the Cu atom in the layer and the chain for Y124 superconductor does largely affect on it. Also, electron population and chemical bonding of Cu1-O4, Cu2-O4, and Cu1-Cu2 for Y123 superconductor are far different from Y124 superconductor.

  • The reaction of [(2-N,N-dimethylaminomethyl) pheny] methylvinychlorosiane with t-BuLi in hexane solvent gave dimers, five isomeric 1,3-disilacyslobutanes which were weparated and charaterized. In trapping experiments with various trapping agents, no corresponding silene-trapping aduct was observed. We suggest that more important species for the formation of five isomeric dimers might be the zwitterionic species generated by virtue of intramolecular donor atom rather than the silene.
