  • Bridge decks are members that rapidly deteriorated due to various environmental factors such as heavy vehicle and deicing salt, etc. As the lifespan of bridges built in Korea increases, it is expected that the demand for replacing the deteriorated bridge decks will increase. In other countries, Accelerated Bridge Construction technology using precast decks is already actively being used as a countermeasure for replacement demand of deteriorated bridge decks. In this study, bridge decks deterioration models are proposed by collecting and analysing the condition index data of domestic bridge decks. Also, the future replacement demands of deteriorated bridge decks in terms of replacement time and replacement scale are predicted.

  • The demand for commercial kimchi has increased continuously for the past 20 years due to the increase in eating out demand. Although Korean kimchi industry has expanded significantly, it is still small and a large portion of domestic demand is dependent on Chinese kimchi. Chinese kimchi imports has markedly increased over the last 20 years. However, kimchi imports from China in 2021 significantly reduced due to the recently released video showing a naked man making Kimchi. Korean government has decided to apply HACCP to all imported Kimchi from October 2021 in order to improve the safety of imported kimchi. This study analyzed the effect of changes in the amount of kimchi imports due to the introduction of HACCP on the kimchi industry by using a dynamic partial equilibrium model. According to the analysis result, if imports decreased by 20% compared to the Baseline, domestic kimchi production increased from 1.8% to a maximum of 4.8%, but kimchi consumption decreased from 3.1% to 5.2%. In particular, consumption away from home decreased from 3.3% to 5.7%. It is expected that the results of this study would be used as useful data in the decision-making process of market participants and policy makers related to the kimchi industry.

  • This study investigates investment attraction in manufacturing and reviews the current trend of Korean companies' overseas expansion, targeting Vietnam and Indonesia to create a demand-based overseas industrial complex. Furthermore, a survey was conducted with domestic companies located in industrial complexes to analyze the details of their intention to enter overseas markets. By linking the previously specified industrial sectors for investment attraction with the desired industrial sectors for overseas expansion and previously entered industries, measures to promote overseas industrial complexes are proposed. For instance, combining with already expanded industries, entering attractive fields to develop new markets, and deriving specialized strategies for each country. These strategies can be useful as basic resources when establishing plans that reflect the domestic and foreign needs of the key target countries to attract companies to overseas industrial complexes.

  • Interest in energy efficiency and savings have been rising internationally. For this reason, the domestic housing construction in the area of power equipment is being actively studied. Currently approximately 400,000 per year of domestic housing is being built. Applies to housing construction during the current transformer capacity low utilization and load factor has been applied has been designed. In other words, excessively high reserve capacity has been applied. According to this problem, initial facility costs and power losses will cause because transformer low utilization be appropriated. Thus, the energy efficiency drops. In this paper, analysis of past utilization of the housing transformer, and applying an appropriate demand factor has been analyzing the energy loss reduction. this analysis of current domestic conditions for the proper housing transformer scheme is to calculate the capacity.

  • In Korea, base metals such as lead, zinc, copper, tin, nickel, and aluminum have a polarized supply and demand structure. Despite the presence of world-class producers of lead, zinc, and copper, and their production is insufficient. And there are no domestic producers of tin, nickel, and aluminum, Thus, most of the domestic demand is dependent on imports. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare for the risk of supply interruption, such as the disruption of the import of base metals or interruption of domestic production. In this study, we estimated the quantity required to respond to the risk of import disruption, the quantity to which the market can respond, and the quantity to which the government needs to respond for six base metals (copper, lead, zinc, aluminum, nickel, and tin).

  • The supply and demand of mushrooms has increased dramatically as the standard of living has increased and the nutritional and medical value of the mushrooms has been discovered. However, in meeting the demand, the profitability of the mushroom is being reduced. Even though there are many different types of and uses for mushrooms, the overall output production for the last ten years has consistently increased 5.9% per year, and for the last five years('00~'04) 5.2 % per year, and for the last 3 years('02~'04) 2.9% per year- the rate of increase has slowed. Looking at the standard gross income from mushroom production, it has increased 5.2% over the last nine years('95~'03), 1.6% over the last 4 years('00~'03), and 3.2% over the last 3 years('02~'04)-the annual gross income is decreasing. Even though the farmers are producing more mushrooms, the annual gross income is not increasing enough to keep up with the production, and therefore the profitability of mushrooms is decreasing. Since 2002, the constant increase of the output of edible mushrooms such as the Common Mushroom, Oyster Mushroom, King Oyster Mushroom and Winter Mushroom has resulted in a price declines. Before 2004, Korea mainly exported mushrooms, but after 2004 Korea mainly imported mushrooms. The mushroom industry of Korea is nearing the end of the stage of 'supplying domestic demand.' The stages are as follows: demand raised ${\rightarrow}$ supply domestic demand ${\rightarrow}$ export ${\rightarrow}$ country with developed mushroom industry. Therefore, we should have an efficient system to promote the exportation of mushrooms. Not only the exportation of mushroom itself but also the exportation of mushroom spawn, cultivation techniques and processing facilities should be our goal when we formulate the policy.

  • The rare metals used as raw materials in high-tech industries undergo changes in demand structures and supply chains following domestic industrial structural shifts and technological advancements, exhibiting high price volatility. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically analyze changes in the demand structures of rare metals. Since domestic demand for most rare metals relies on imports in Korea, the changes in domestic demand for rare metals can be identified by analyzing changes in their trade structure. In the present study, we analyze the changes in trade volume, trade growth rate, trade rankings, and trading countries from 2000 to 2022 for 35 rare metals, categorized into five types-ores, metals, alloys, compounds, and scrap. The trade of the raw materials of rare metals in Korea has generally increased since the 2000s, except for a significant decline in 2009 and 2016. The total trade volume, encompassing both exports and imports, has increased by approximately tenfold in 2022 compared to 2001. Until the mid-2010s, the trade of the raw materials of rare metals was primarily focused on those used in steel-manufacturing such as silicon, nickel, chrome, molybdenum, manganese, and others. However, after that period, there has been an increase in the trade of platinum group metals like palladium, rhodium, platinum, and the raw materials of rare metals for secondary battery-manufacturing such as lithium and cobalt. Particularly in 2022, lithium has become the largest share in trade of the raw materials of rare metals in Korea, due to the price surge and increase in demand.

  • This study aims to analyze the supply and demand trends and regional distribution characteristics of the stone industry through transaction records of the domestic natural stone market. The demand for natural stone is increasing globally, but domestic stone producers are facing financial difficulties due to the influx of low-cost stone, and the government is implementing various support policies, such as mandating the use of domestic stone. However, the influx of low-cost stones has led to management deterioration for domestic stone producers, prompting the government to implement various support policies such as mandating the use of domestic stones. An analysis of the natural stone transaction records from the Public Procurement Service revealed that granite was the main type of rock. The main trading items were natural stone curbs and natural stone slabs, with an average annual transaction amount of approximately 312.8 billion KRW from 2017 to 2021. A comparison of the stone distribution status between the metropolitan area and non-metropolitan areas showed that the metropolitan area had high demand, while non-metropolitan areas served as major supply sources. Cities such as Pocheon in Gyeonggi-do, Iksan in Jeollabuk-do, and Geochang in Gyeongsangnam-do play important roles as major stone suppliers. Based on these results, this study proposes fostering the stone industry tailored to regional characteristics, diversifying distribution channels, and establishing a sustainable supply chain for the sustainable development of the stone industry. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for close cooperation and support among the government, industry, and research institutions.
