  • H-pile can be more easily driven than pipe pile by pile driver and shows high skin friction and plugging effect. This experimental study was devoted to investigate skin friction of H group piles in granite soil under laboratory test. Pile arrangements $(1{\times}2,\;1{\times}3,\;2{\times}2,\;2{\times}3,\;3{\times}3)$, pile space (2D,4D,6D), and soil density $(D_r=40%,\;80%)$ were tested. The main results obtained from the model tests can be summarized as follows. Distribution ratio of skin friction for total load decreased by $48{\sim}39%$ (dense soil), $32{sim}27%$ (loose soil) as piles space ratio increases in case of $3{\times}3$ group piles. And the distribution ratio of skin friction by pile settlements under loose soil decreased by about $58{\sim}33.2%$ in $2{\times}2$ group piles and about $65{\sim}38%$ in $3{\times}3$ group piles respectively.

  • This study investigates the flow characteristics, such as velocity distributions, size and location of recirculation zone, longitudinal flow change rates, and bifurcation discharge ratio in the bifurcation channel by TELEMAC-2D, a 2D numerical model. The numerical model is validated by previous experimental results and the numerical results are in relatively good agreement with the experimental results, such as the water surface elevation and velocity distribution in the channels. As the inertial force and moment in the main channel decrease, the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, and the relative high velocity distribution becomes wider and the reverse velocity of the main stream decreases in the branch channel. As the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, the size of the recirculation zone in the branch channel decreases and it can be more clearly calculated by determining the point where the longitudinal froude number $Fr{\approx}0$ as well as drawing the distribution of the streamline distribution.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to investigate whether Korea's economic growth can be explained by the endogenous growth theory. Specifically, we test whether R&D expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the economic growth. Research design, data, and methodology - We hypothesize that R&D expenditure has a positive effect on the economic growth after adding control variables in the growth equation. Korean annual data from 1963 to 2011 from Science and Technology Annual of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Bank of Korea, etc. are used. We estimate the growth equation by GMM in addition to OLS. Results - We found that R&D expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the economic growth after adding the ratio of investment to GDP, the ratio of FDI to GDP, the ratio of government expenditure to GDP, inflation and the ratio of trade openness to GDP as control variables in the growth equation. Conclusions - Our results show that Korea's rapid economic growth for the past five decades can be explained by the R&D-based endogenous economic growth theory. Our results suggest that the policy attention of the Korean government be paid to R&D promotion.

  • To analyze the performance of mobile communication systems, the exact information of the carrier-to-interference ratio is important. Under the presence of an interferer in a cell, the carrier-to-interference ratio of the receiver is determined by the ratio between the informer-receiver distance$(d_0)$ and the receiver-interferer distance$(d_1)$. In this paper, we derive the carrier-to-interference distribution based on $d_0/d_1$ values using the geometric relation among the informer, interferer and receiver, and confirm its exactness using the simulation result. We also apply the derivation result to a system with the adjacent channel interference, and analyze the outage probability.

  • In this study, we recognized about application of the load distribution factor for design of tunnel in 3D numerical analysis. Generally, load distribution factor of tunnel is applied to describe 3D arching effect that can not describe when 2D numerical analysis. Through result of 3D numerical analysis, we used to apply in numerical analysis for the load distribution factor that ratio of finally displacement to displacement of construction step. But 3D numerical analysis need to apply to load distribution factor for convenience of numerical analysis. Therefore, we proposed load distribution factor that reduce time and coast. It corrected variable of advanced length in load distribution factor of 3D numerical analysis.

  • Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. In FGM layer, material properties are assumed to be varied continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of a ceramic and metal. The 3-D finite element model is adopted by using an IS-node solid element to analyze more accurately the variation of material properties in the thickness direction. Numerical results are compared with those of the previous works. In addition, the displacements, the tensile stresses and the compressive stresses are analyzed for the variation of FGM thickness ratio and volume fraction distribution.Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. • Local heat transfer coefficients were measured on semi-cylinders on which a circular water jet impinged in crossflow. The ratio of the semi-cylinder's diameter and the nozzle outlet diameter were varied parametrically, as were the Reynolds number and the supplementary water heights. The measurements showed that the circumferential distribution of the heat transfer coefficient peaked at the stagnation point. For a fixed supplementary water height, the peak heat transfer coefficient was not depend on the curvature of test specimen(d/D). Optimum height of supplementary water which brought about the augmentation of heat transfer at the stagnation point was S/D=1. The Nusselt number decreased as the circumferential distance or angle increased. The circumferential distribution of dimensionless heat transfer (Nu/Nus) was independent of d/D ($d/D{\geq}8.33$), but for the d/D<8.33, it was depended on d/D. At a fixed angle of specimen, dimensionless heat transfer (Nu/Nus) decreased as the ratio d/D increased. The extent of the decrease between d/D=6.67 and 8.33 was markedly greater than that between d/D=8.33 and 10, or d/D=10 and 11.67.

  • This research was conducted at Langgur City, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, Eastern Indonesia from November 2020 to February 2021 to study biological aspects of roundscads (Decapterus spp.) which consist of species composition, sex ratio, gonad maturation level, size distribution, length-weight relationship and condition factor. Samples were collected at traditional fish market in Langgur City. Fish samples collected at the market were put into cool box and then brought to the laboratory for further examination. Fish samples were identified, separated based on species, dissected to determine their sex and gonad maturation stage and then measured. Totally, there were 290 specimen collected which consist of five species namely Decapterus kurroides, D. macarellus, D. macrosoma, D. muroadsi and D. russelli. Sex ratio between male and female for all species showed 1:1. Gonad maturation level showed that stage I and II have higher percentage than stage III and IV indicates immature fish more dominant compare to mature one. Among five species found, D. macarellus has larger size while the smaller belongs to D. muroadsi. Results of length-weight relationship analysis showed that roundscads inhabiting Southeast Maluku waters have isometric and negative allometric growth pattern with relative condition factor around 1.00.

  • The Poisson ratio reduction of symmetric hygrothermal aged $[{\theta}_m/90_n]_s$ composite laminates containing a transverse cracking in mid-layer is predicted by using a modified shear-lag model. Good agreement is obtained by comparing the prediction models and experimental data published by Joffe et al. (2001). The material properties of the composite are affected by the variation of temperature and transient moisture concentration distribution in desorption case, and are based on a micro-mechanical model of laminates. The transient and non-uniform moisture concentration distribution give rise to the transient Poisson ratio reduction. The obtained results represent well the dependence of the Poisson ratio degradation on the cracks density, fibre orientation angle of the outer layers and transient environmental conditions. Through the presented study, we hope to contribute to the understanding of the hygrothermal behaviour of cracked composite laminate.
