Efforts for reducing greenhouse gas emission coping with climate change have also been performed in the field of water and wastewater works. In particular, the technical development for reducing energy has been applied in operating water distribution system. The reduction of energy in water distribution system can be achieved by reducing structural loss induced by topographic variation and operational loss induced by leakage and friction. However, both analytical and numerical approaches for analyzing energy budget of water distribution system has been challengeable because energy components are affected by the complex interaction of affecting factors. This research drew mathematical equations for 5 types of state (hypothetical, ideal, leak-included ideal, leak-excluded real, and real), which depend on the assumptions of topographic variation, leakage, and friction. Furthermore, the derived equations are schematically illustrated and applied into simple water network. The suggested method makes water utilities quantify, classify, and evaluate the energy of water distribution system.

According to the 3020 RE (renewable energy) policy of the Korean Government, distributed generators, including PV (photovoltaic) and WP (wind power) systems, have been installed and operated in distribution systems. On the other hand, if large-scale PV systems are interconnected in a distribution system, the spread of PV systems may be postponed due to a reduction of the hosting capacity in PV systems because of the over-voltage phenomena at the customer end by violating the allowable voltage limits. Under these circumstances, this paper proposes an evaluation algorithm of the hosting capacity of a PV system based on the LDC (line drop compensation) method of SVR (step voltage regulator) to improve the hosting capacity when large-scale PV systems are installed in a distribution system. Moreover, this paper presents a modeling of a complex distribution system, which is composed of a large-scale PV system and SVR with the LDC method using PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed algorithm and modeling are useful and practical tools for improving the hosting capacity of a PV system because the customer voltages are maintained within the allowable voltage limits even if 6.5[MW] of the PV system is installed in a distribution system with the LDC method of SVR.
Background: A cargo container scanner using a high-energy X-ray generates a fan beam X-ray to acquire a transmitted image. Because the generated X-rays by LINAC may affect the image quality and radiation protection of the system, it is necessary to acquire accurate information about the generated X-ray beam distribution. In this paper, a diode-based multi-channel spatial dose measuring device for measuring the X-ray dose distribution developed for measuring the high energy X-ray beam distribution of the container scanner is described. Materials and Methods: The developed high-energy X-ray spatial dose distribution measuring device can measure the spatial distribution of X-rays using 128 diode-based X-ray sensors. And precise measurement of the beam distribution is possible through automatic positioning in the vertical and horizontal directions. The response characteristics of the measurement system were evaluated by comparing the signal gain difference of each pixel, response linearity according to X-ray incident dose change, evaluation of resolution, and measurement of two-dimensional spatial beam distribution. Results and Discussion: As a result, it was found that the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the response signal according to the incident position showed a difference of about 10%, and the response signal was linearly increased. And it has been confirmed that high-resolution and two-dimensional measurements are possible. Conclusion: The developed X-ray spatial dose measuring device was evaluated as suitable for dose measurement of high energy X-ray through confirmation of linearity of response signal, spatial uniformity, high resolution measuring ability and ability to measure spatial dose. We will perform precise measurement of the X-ray beamline in the container scanning system using the X-ray spatial dose distribution measuring device developed through this research.

This study was performed to investigate the efficiency of the corrosion prevention in the simulated distribution system using CCPP(Calcium Carbonate Precipitation Potential) as the anti-corrosive index by adjusting pH, total dissolved solids, alkalinity and calcium hardness in the water treatment pilot process. The materials of the simulated distribution system(SDS) were equiped with same materials of real field water distribution system. CCPP concentrations controlled by $Ca(OH)_2$, $CO_2$ gas and $Na_2CO_3$ in the simulated distribution system and uncontrolled by the chemicals in the general water distribution system were average 0.61 mg/L and -7.77 mg/L. The concentrations of heavy metals like Fe, Zn, Cu ions in effluent water of the simulated distribution system controlled with water quality were decreased rather than the general water distribution system uncontrolled with water quality. In simulated distribution system(SDS), corrosion prevention film formed by CCPP control was observed that scale was come into forming six months later and it was formed into density as time goes on. We were analyzed XRD(X-ray diffraction) for investigating component of crystal compounds and structure for galvanized steel pipe(15 mm). Finding on analysis, scale was compounded to $Zn_4CO_3(OH)_6{\cdot}H_2O$ (Zinc Carbonate Hydroxide Hydrate) after ten months late, and it was compounded on $CaCO_3$(Calcium Carbonate) and $ZnCO_3$(Smithsonite) after nineteen months later.

The addition of disconnect switches to a distribution feeder or the replacement of the manual switches with the automatic switches do, in general, increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage of many to the customers on the feeder and reducing the outage section. However, the improvement of reliability in power distribution system causes an increase of the investment cost, for example, replacement costs, labor costs, and so on. For this reason - the balance between investment and reliability improvement - many studies about the appropriate level of investment have been conducted. In this paper, we suggest the algorithm for determining the reasonable switch automation rate in the power distribution system. We evaluate the customer interruption cost and reliability for several cases - these cases relate with the switch automation rate - in the domestic metropolitan power distribution system, estimate the effectiveness of changing the manual switch to automatic switch quantitatively. These results can help the determining on the disconnect switch's automation rate.
In this paper a methodology is developed to prioritize replacement of water distribution pipes according to the economical efficiency of replacement and assess the long-term effects of water main replacement policies on water distribution systems. The methodology is implemented with MATLAB to develop a computer algorithm which is used to apply the methodology to a case study water distribution system. A pipe break prediction model is used to estimate future costs of pipe repair and replacement, and the economically optimal replacement time of a pipe is estimated by obtaining the time at which the present worth of the total costs of repair and replacement is minimum. The equation for estimating the present worth of the total cost is modified to reflect the fact that a pipe can be replaced in between of failure events. The results of the analyses show that about 9.5% of the pipes in the case study system is required to be replaced within the planning horizon. Analyses of the yearly pipe replacement requirements for the case study system are provided along with the compositions of the replacement. The effects of water main replacement policies, for which yearly replacement length scenario and yearly replacement budget scenario are used, during a planning horizon are simulated in terms of the predicted number of pipe failures and the saved repair costs.

It has been widely accepted that the pressure management of water distribution systems using pressure reducing valves(PRVs) would be an effective method for controlling leakages. A pressure reducing valve (PRV) regulates outlet pressure regardless of fluctuating flow and varying inlet pressure, thereby reducing leakage and mitigating the stress on the water distribution system. However, the operation of a PRV is vulnerable to its mechanical condition and hydraulic operability. In this research, the effect of PRVs installed in water distribution system are evaluated in terms of hydraulic pressure reduction and mechanical performance by analyzing measured pressure data with statistical approach. A statistical approach using the moving average filter and frequency analysis based on fourier transform is presented to detect abnormally operated PRVs that have been densely installed in water distribution system. The result shows that the proposed approach can be a good performance evaluation method by simply measuring pressures for the PRVs.
Accurate peak response estimation of a seismically excited structure with frictional damping system (FDS) is very difficult since the structure with FDS shows nonlinear behavior dependent on the structural period, loading characteristics, and relative magnitude between the frictional force and the excitation load. Previous studies have estimated the peak response of the structure with FDS by replacing a nonlinear system with an equivalent linear one or by employing the response spectrum obtained based on nonlinear time history and statistical analysis. In case that earthquake excitation is defined probabilistically, corresponding response of the structure with FDS becomes to have probabilistic distribution. In this study, nonlinear time history analyses were performed for the structure with FDS subjected to artificial earthquake excitation generated using Kanai-Tajimi filter. An equation for the probability density function (PDF) of the displacement response is proposed by adapting the PDF of the normal distribution. Coefficients of the proposed PDF are obtained by regression of the statistical distribution of the time history responses. Finally, the correlation between the resulting PDFs and statistical response distribution is investigated.
Two kinds of important issues on Titius-Bode's relation have been discussed up to now: one is if there is a simple mathematical relation between distances of natural bodies orbiting a central body, and the other is if there is any physical basis for such a relation. These may be tackled by answering a question whether Titius-Bode's relation is valid universally in exo-planetary systems. We have examined whether Titius Bode's relation is also applicable to exo-planetary systems by statistically studying the distribution of the ratio of rotational periods of two planets in an exo-planetary system, 55 Cnc, by comparing it with that derived from Titius-Bode's relation. We find that the distribution of the ratio of rotational periods of randomly chosen two planets in the 55 Cnc system is apparently inconsistent with that derived from Titius-Bode's relation. The probability that two data sets are drawn from the same distribution function is 50%. We also find that the Fourier power spectra show that the distribution of the semi-major axis of planets in the 55 Cnc system seems to be stretched. We conclude by pointing out that large numbers of planets should be examined to more convincingly explain the distribution of the distance of planetary formation regions.
As DC power and DC load increase, unnecessary conversion process occurs in existing system. Due to these problems, interest in DC distribution systems has increased recently. As the importance of DC distribution system becomes higher, it is necessary to analyze the DC current. In this paper, we briefly describe the control method of the converter and describe the DC power flow calculation method. finally, we compared the simulation results of MATLAB and ETAP.
