Recently, wireless mesh network has been focused as a core technology for resolving the issues of shadow zone and distributed bypass route as it has broad service coverage as well as good scalability features. It, however, provides users with relatively lower QoS than infrastructure-based networks. In order for addressing this QoS issue and also enhancing the routing performance of mobile WiMax mesh network, this paper proposes a load sensing QoS routing (LSQR) scheme. In the proposed LSQR, each node figures out network congestion status and selects a bypass route accordingly. With this scheme, we can expect good load balancing effect by changing the routing paths from centralized links to distributed links under a heavy traffic condition. From the simulation results using NS-2, it has been verified that the LSQR shows lower packet loss rates and data transmission delays than the existing representative routing schemes.

This paper presents a distributed routing scheme for allowing network control to be distributed through the switching elements of a multistage baseline network. The routing technique we use here is the destination tag scheme which uses the binary representation of a destination address as the reuting tag. With the topological properties of the network, we introduce a distributed algorithm which allows any connection from a source to arbitrary number of destinations. Also, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computer simulation, and the results of the method is compared to other schemes in terms of time complexity.

The classic routing algorithms try to minimize the number of hops to reach a destination. In our DPC(Distributed Power Control) this hop-by-hop power level selection is also used to select the path guaranteeing low energy consumption. The main goal is to realize a dynamic protocol able to be aware of mobility and to automatically set security threshold in order to get the best performance in every situation. In conclusion, the simulation DPC has improved energy gain of the AMRIS routing algorithm at the narrow area, and ODMRP routing algorithm has improved energy gain at the wide area.

With the prevalence of diverse services-oriented applications, such as IPTV systems and on-line games, the current underlying communication networks face more and more challenges on the aspects of flexibility and adaptability. Therefore, an effective and efficient multicast routing mechanism, which can fulfill different requirements of different personalized services, is critical and significant. In this paper, we first define the neighbor gradient, which is calculated based on the weighted sum of attributes such as residual link capacity, normalized hop count, etc. Then two distributed multicast routing algorithms which are neighbor Gradient-based Multicast Routing for Static multicast membership (GMR-S) and neighbor Gradient-based Multicast Routing for Dynamic multicast membership (GMR-D), are proposed. GMR-S is suitable for static membership situation, while GMR-D can be used for the dynamic membership network environment. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed methods.

In this paper, a cluster-based routing protocol in distributed sensor network is proposed, which enable the balanced energy consumption in the sensor nodes densely deployed in the sensor fields. This routing protocol is implemented based on clusters with hierarchical scheme. The clusters are formed by the closely located sensor nodes. A cluster node with maximum residual energy in the cluster, can be selected as cluster head node. In routing, one of the nodes in the intersection area between two clusters is selected as a relay-node and this method can extend the lifetime of all the sensor nodes in view of the balanced consumption of communication energy.
This paper proposes an efficient dynamic routing algorithm for Multistage Bus Networks(MBN's) in distributed shared memory environment. Our algorithm utilizes extra paths available on MBN and determines routing paths adaptively according to switch traffic in order to distribute traffic among switches. Precisely, a packet is transmitted to the next switch on an extra path having a lighter traffic. As a consequence the proposed algorithm reduces the mean response time and the average number of waiting tasks. The results of simulations, carried out with varying numbers of processors and varying switch sizes, show that the proposed algorithm improves the mean response time by 9% and the average number of waiting tasks by 21.6%, compared to the existing routing algorithms which do not consider extra paths on MBN.

In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to optimization algorithm which is a distributed Mean field Genetic algorithm (MGA) implemented in MPI(Message Passing Interface) environments. Distributed MGA is a hybrid algorithm of Mean Field Annealing(MFA) and Simulated annealing-like Genetic Algorithm(SGA). The proposed distributed MGA combines the benefit of rapid convergence property of MFA and the effective genetic operations of SGA. The proposed distributed MGA is applied to the channel routing problem, which is an important issue in the automatic layout design of VLSI circuits. Our experimental results show that the composition of heuristic methods improves the performance over GA alone in terms of mean execution time. It is also proved that the proposed distributed algorithm maintains the convergence properties of sequential algorithm while it achieves almost linear speedup as the problem size increases.
In a packet switching network, congestion is unavoidable and affects the quality of real-time traffic with such problems as delay and packet loss. Packet fair queuing (PFQ) algorithms are well-known solutions for quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee by packet scheduling. Our approach is different from previous algorithms in that it uses hardware time achieved by sampling a counter triggered by a periodic clock signal. This clock signal can be provided to all the modules of a routing system to get synchronization. In this architecture, a variant of the PFQ algorithm, called digitized delay queuing (DDQ), can be distributed on many line interface modules. We derive the delay bounds in a single processor system and in a distributed architecture. The definition of traffic contribution improves the simplicity of the mathematical models. The effect of different time between modules in a distributed architecture is the key idea for understanding the delay behavior of a routing system. The number of bins required for the DDQ algorithm is also derived to make the system configuration clear. The analytical models developed in this paper form the basis of improvement and application to a combined input and output queuing (CIOQ) router architecture for a higher speed QoS network.

In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic wavelength assignment algorithm in distributed WDM (Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) networks without wavelength conversion. The algorithm tries to assign a locally-most-used wavelength distributedly on a fixed routing path. We first formulate our algorithm by using the concept of a sample space which consists of optical fibers connected to nodes on a routing path of a lightpath to be assigned a wavelength. In particular, we analyze the blocking performance mathematically as compared with that of the most-used (MU) wavelength assignment algorithm previously proposed for WDM networks under centralized control. We also obtain numerical results by simulation on the blocking performance of other centralized/distributed wavelength assignment algorithms as well as our algorithm using the M/M/c/c dynamic traffic model. Consequently, we show that analytical results match simulation results and that our algorithm is efficient in distributed WDM networks in terms of blocking performance, control traffic overhead and computation complexity.
A DHT(Distributed Hash Table) based P2P is a method that compensates disadvantages of the existing unstructured P2P method. If a DHT algorithm is used, it can do fast data search and maintain search efficiency independent of the number of peers. The peers in a DHT method send messages periodically to keep the routing table updated. In a mobile environment, the peers in a DHT method should send messages more frequently to keep the routing table updated and reduce the failure of requests. However this results in increasing the overall network traffic. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the update load of a routing table in the existing DHT by updating it in a reactive way. In the proposed reactive method, a routing table is updated only if a data request is coming whereas it is updated periodically in the existing proactive method. We perform experiments using Chord simulator(I3) made by UC Berkely. The experimental results show the performance improvement of the proposed method compared to the existing method.
