Since thermal power plant (TPP) equipment is operated under very high pressure and temperature, failures of the equipment give rise to severe losses of life and property. To prevent the losses, fault detection method is, therefore, absolutely necessary to identify abnormal operating conditions of the equipment in advance. In this paper, we present Mahalanobis distance (MD) based fault detection method for steam boiler tube in TPP. In the MD-based method, it is supposed that abnormal data samples are far away from normal samples. Using multivariate samples collected from normal target system, mean vector and covariance matrix are calculated and threshold value of MD is decided. In a test phase, after calculating the MDs between the mean vector and test samples, alarm signals occur if the MDs exceed the predefined threshold. To demonstrate the performance, a failure case due to boiler tube leakage in 200MW TPP is employed. The experimental results show that the presented method can perform early detection of boiler tube leakage successfully.
Airborne laser scanning thechnology has been studied in many applications, DSM(Digital Surface Model) development, building extraction, 3D virtual city modeling. In this paper, we will evaluate the possibility of airborne laser scanning technology for transportation application, especially for recognizing moving vehicles on road. First, we initially segment the region of roads from all LiDAR DATA using the GIS map and intensity image. Secondly, the segmented region is divided into the roads and vehicles using the height threshold value of local based window. Finally, the vehicles will be classified into the several types of vehicles by MDC(Minimum Distance Classification) method using the vehicle's geometry information, height, length, width, etc

This paper presents a study on jet-flow-induced vibration, which has been one of the main causes of fuel damage in many pressurized water reactors. A systematic investigation was carried out experimently to identify the mechanism of jet-flow-induced vibration and to provide a design guide. Fluidelastic instability occurs when the jet velocity exceeds a critical value. The threshold of instability is given by V/f$_{n}$D=K.root.(D/h)(m$_{0}$.delta.$_{0}$/.sigma.D$^{2}$), where K is a stability constant. The effect of axial flow velocity and stand-off distance of a tube array on the stability of the array were investigated. A design guide is proposed.posed.

Cooray and Ananda (2005) proposed a composite lognormal-Pareto model to analyze loss payment data in the actuarial and insurance industries. Their model is based on a lognormal density up to an unknown threshold value and a two-parameter Pareto density. In this paper, we implement the minimum density power divergence estimation for the composite lognormal-Pareto density. We compare the performances of the minimum density power divergence estimator (MDPDE) and the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) by simulations and an example. The minimum density power divergence estimator performs reasonably well against various violations in the distribution. The minimum density power divergence estimator better fits small observations and better resists against extraordinary large observations than the maximum likelihood estimator.
A wireless sensor network which is deployed in hostile environment can be easily compromised by attackers. The selective forwarding attack can jam the packet or drop a sensitive packet such as the movement of the enemy on data flow path through the compromised node. Xiao, Yu and Gao proposed the checkpoint-based multi-hop acknowledgement scheme(CHEMAS). In CHEMAS, each path node enable to be the checkpoint node according to the pre-defined probability and then can detect the area where the selective forwarding attacks is generated through the checkpoint nodes. In this scheme, the number of hops is very important because this parameter may trade off between energy conservation and detection capacity. In this paper, we used the fuzzy rule system to determine adaptive threshold value which is the number of hops for the ACK packets. In every period, the base station determines threshold value while using fuzzy logic. The energy level, the number of compromised node, and the distance to each node from base station are used to determine threshold value in fuzzy logic.

In IRST(infrared search and track) system, the small target detection is very difficult because the IR(infrared) image have various clutter and sensor noise. The noise and clutter similar to the target intensity value produce many false alarms. In this paper. We propose the adaptive detection method which obtains optimal target detection using the image intensity information and the prior information of target. In order to enhance the target, we apply the human visual system. we determine the adaptive threshold value using image intensity and distance measure in target enhancement image. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can efficiently extract target region in various IR images.
The impact of midlatitude synoptic system (upper-level trough) on typhoon intensity change was investigated by analyzing the spatial and temporal characteristics of vertical wind shear (VWS), relative eddy momentum flux convergence (REFC), and potential vorticity (PV). These variables were computed over the radial mean $300{\sim}1,000km$ from the typhoon center by using GDAPS (Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System) data provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The selected cases in this study are typhoons Rusa (0215) and Maemi (0314), causing much damage in life and property in Korea. Results show that the threshold value of VWS indicating typhoon intensity change (typhoon to severe tropical storm) is approximately 15 m/s and of REFC ranges 6 to 6.5 $ms^{-1}day^{-1}$ in both cases, respectively. During the period with the intensity of typhoon class, PVs with 3 to 3.5 PVU are present in 360K surface-PV field in the cases. In addition, there is a time-lag of 24 hours between central pressure of typhoon and minimum value of VWS, meaning that the midlatitude upper-level trough interacts with the edge of typhoon with a horizontal distance less than 2,000 km between trough and typhoon. That is, strong midlatitude upper-level divergence above the edge of the typhoon provides a good condition for strengthening the vertical circulation associated with the typhoons. In particular, when the distance between typhoon and midlatitude upper-level trough is less than 1,000 km, the typhoons tend to weaken to STS (Severe Tropical Storm). It might be mentioned that midlatitude synoptic system affects the intensity change of typhoons Rusa (0215) and Maemi (0314) while they moves northward. Thus, these variables are useful for diagnosing the intensity change of typhoon approaching to the Korean peninsula.

In this paper, we report on the channel capacity and diversity gain of the vehicle on-glass antenna for FM radio reception. The correlation coefficient and channel capacity were obtained using the simulated 3D radiation pattern of each antenna and the Rayleigh channel model for urban environment. To examine the channel capacity we used two antennas which are a simple straight antenna and L-type antenna. Then we observed the available channel capacity by varying the position of feeds and the shape of the L-type antenna. The sample antenna, which has a maximum feed distance with different polarizations, was built and the receiving performance was measured in the weak FM field area. From the results we confirmed that the distance between the feeds should be placed as far as possible for the high channel capacity. If the distance between the feeds are greater than a certain threshold value than the polarizations of the two antennas are getting more important for determining the channel capacity.
There are a lot of elements affecting the success of implant prosthesis. The quality of surgical procedure is considered as one of the key factors. To avoid the excess heat generation is an important element of successful osseointegration and it can be achieved by using a gentle surgical technique with a sharp instrument in bone drilling. This study was performed to measure and analyze comparatively the heat transmitted to sur-rounding bone at a distance of 0.5mm from the periphery of the drill hole in each drilling stage. The results were as follows. In standard system, the temperature of surrounding bone tissue ranged from $29.2^{\circ}C\;to\;48.3^{\circ}C$ with irrigation and from $34.6^{\circ}C\;to\;84.3^{\circ}C$ without irrigation. And in wide system, the temperature of surrounding bone tissue ranged from $29.5^{\circ}C\;to\;52.5^{\circ}C$ with irrigation and from $34.8^{\circ}C\;to\;87.8^{\circ}C$ without irrigation. And the temperature ranges exceeded the threshold without irrigation, while showing less than the threshold by the cooling effect of irrigation. In comparing standard system with wide system, although there was no significant difference, ${\phi}4.3mm$ pilot and ${\phi}4.3mm$ twist drill of wide system showed high value and wide system showed slightly high elevation of temperature in all depth in fixture installation. In the finite element analysis, the calculated value by the Fourier's cooling law were applied to the bone drilling surface. And through analysis using different irrigation temperatures at $28^{\circ}C,\;15^{\circ}C\;and\;5^{\circ}C$, and according to the time. The result was that the cooling water at least below $15^{\circ}C$ was required to maintain the temperature of surrounding bone less than threshold in bone drilling, the cooling water below $5^{\circ}C$ was required to gain more sufficient cooling effect, and cooling over 5 seconds was needed after bone drilling for sufficient effect.

In current CBR(Case-Based Reasoning) systems, the case adaptation is usually performed by rule-based method that use rules hand-coded by the system developer. So, CBR system designer faces knowledge acquisition bottleneck similar to those found in traditional expert system design. In this thesis, 1 present a model for learning method of case adaptation knowledge using case base. The feature difference of each pair of cases are noted and become the antecedent part of an adaptation rule, the differences between the solutions in the compared cases become the consequent part of the rule. However, the number of rules that can possibly be discovered using a learning algorithm is enormous. The first method for finding cases to compare uses a syntactic measure of the distance between cases. The threshold fur identification of candidates for comparison is fixed th the maximum number of differences between the target and retrived case from all retrievals. The second method is to use similarity metric since the threshold method may not be an accurate measure. I suggest the elimination method of duplicate rules. In the elimination process, a confidence value is assigned to each rule based on its frequency. The learned adaptation rules is applied in riven target Problem. The basic. process involves search for all rules that handle at least one difference followed by a combination process in which complete solutions are built.
