  • Digital image processing algorithm was proposed to measure the area inside of an object image using angle-distance graph used to analyze the pattern of an object in the digital image processing techniques. The first angle-distance graph is generated from a point inside of an object area. The second angle-distance graphs are generated for the areas missed in the first graph by extracting the positions with large gradient in the first angle-distance graph. The order of the graph increases according to the complexity of an object pattern. Size of the area inside of an object boundary is measured by integrating square of distance multiplied by angle for each area from the hierarchical angie-distance graphs.

  • In this study, a distance-measurement system was proposed by using principle of the Michelson Interferometer and a fundamental research was carried out. In case of the rnichelson interferometer, relativity distance was measured by relativity-difference of two course of light. But wavelength of light source were changed in this system in order to use interference phenomenon of michelson interferometer in measuring absolutely distance. Wavelength of input signal were changed periodically and were interfered electrically. So absolute distance can be calculated by using $\Delta\lambda$ and measuring $\eta\Delta$ in electric interference. Nose by a external factor was small in this system because a absolutely distance was measured by phase difference. And a dispersion of noise was small in pulse-echo response because a error was occurred in range of phase difference of signal. Also very wide range can be measured by only single system because informations of distance were acquisited in wavelength level.

  • Background: The tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance is used to determine the necessity of tibial tubercle osteotomy. We conducted this study to determine the extent to which each of the tibial tuberosity lateralization, trochlear groove medialization, and knee rotation angle affects the TT-TG distance in both normal and patella dislocated patients and thereby scrutinize the rationale for tuberosity transfer based on the TT-TG distance. Methods: Retrospective analysis of rotational profile computed tomography was done for patella dislocated and control group patients. Femoral anteversion, tibial torsion, knee rotation angle, tuberosity lateralization, and trochlear groove medialization were assessed in all patients. Relationship of these parameters with the TT-TG distance was investigated to evaluate their effects on the TT-TG distance. Results: We observed that the patellar dislocation group, compared to the control group, had increased TT-TG distance (mean, 19.05 mm vs. 9.02 mm) and greater tuberosity lateralization (mean, 64.1% vs. 60.7%) and tibial external rotation in relation to the femur (mean, $7.9^{\circ}$ vs. $-0.81^{\circ}$). Conclusions: Tuberosity lateralization and knee rotation were factors affecting patellar dislocation. These factors should be considered in addition to the TT-TG distance to determine the need for tibial tubercle osteotomy in patients with patellar dislocation.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method of face retrieval by using PCA(principal component analysis) based features. The coarse-to-fine strategy is adopted to sort the retrieval results in the lower dimensional eigenface space and to rearrange candidates at high ranks in higher dimensional eigenface space. To evaluate similarity between a query face image and class reference image, we utilize the PD (projection distance), MQDF(modified quadratic distance function) and MED(minimum Euclidean distance). The experimental results show that the proposed method which rearrange the retrieval results incrementally by using projection distance is efficient for face image retrieval.

  • Although many studies have suggested that introducing the distance learning method, including Web-based learning, to a practice class is effective, studies applying the distance learning method to subjects who are practicing cooking are rare. The purpose of this study was to determine the perception of the distance learning method, the degree of computer use, and the use of distance learning by college students with cuisine-related majors to practice cooking. The results showed that most students used the distance learning method, and that the method was positively perceived, as it was a great aid in learning. Most of the cooking information was obtained through the internet, and the most effective learning media for practicing cooking was "e-learning" using a computer. The most effective learning method for those who were practicing cooking was a "face-to-face learning method", because face-to-face type of teaching and learning was most universally recognized. Most of the students surveyed responded that using the distance learning method was a positive experience, indicating that cyber lectures could be applied at more universities for subjects practicing cooking.

  • This study is a comparative study on the tendency of power distance between administrative and field personnel in fire departments. For this study, 355 firefighters nationwide were surveyed from August 22 to December 31, 2023, and the collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 statistical program. As a result of the reliability analysis, Cronbach's =.803 was found to be higher than the standard value of 0.6. irefighting agencies are firefighting organizations that work to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently at disaster sites, and an appropriate level of power distance is essential. However, excessive power distance between superiors and subordinates leads to self-righteousness in administration and incompetence in field activities through one-sided instructions and compliance. As a result of analyzing the power distance tendencies of administrative and field workers in fire departments in this study, it was confirmed that there was no bias in either direction with an average score of 2.55. And the level of power distance tendency between administrative and field firefighters was 2.56 points, showing no significant difference.

  • The epicentral region of earthquakes is typically where liquefaction-related damage takes place. To determine the maximum distance, such as maximum epicentral distance (Re), maximum fault distance (Rf), or maximum hypocentral distance (Rh), at which an earthquake can inflict damage, given its magnitude, this study, using a recently updated global liquefaction database, multiple ML models are built to predict the limiting distances (Re, Rf, or Rh) required for an earthquake of a given magnitude to cause damage. Four machine learning models LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), BiLSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory), CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), and XGB (Extreme Gradient Boosting) are developed using the Python programming language. All four proposed ML models performed better than empirical models for limiting distance assessment. Among these models, the XGB model outperformed all the models. In order to determine how well the suggested models can predict limiting distances, a number of statistical parameters have been studied. To compare the accuracy of the proposed models, rank analysis, error matrix, and Taylor diagram have been developed. The ML models proposed in this paper are more robust than other current models and may be used to assess the minimal energy of a liquefaction disaster caused by an earthquake or to estimate the maximum distance of a liquefied site provided an earthquake in rapid disaster mapping.

  • SMOTE (synthetic minority over-sampling technique) has been used the most as a solution to the problem of imbalanced data. SMOTE selects the nearest neighbor based on Euclidean distance. However, Euclidean distance has the disadvantage of not considering the correlation between variables. In particular, the Mahalanobis distance has the advantage of considering the covariance of variables. But if there are outliers, they usually influence calculating the Mahalanobis distance. To solve this problem, we use the Mahalanobis distance by estimating the covariance matrix using MCD (minimum covariance determinant). Then apply Mahalanobis distance based on MCD to SMOTE to create new data. Therefore, we showed that in most cases this method provided high performance indicators for classifying imbalanced data.

  • This study analyzed the relationship between GPS-based physical activity patterns and mental health using Kaggle Student Life data. Data were collected over a 10-week period from 48 students at Dartmouth College through Android smartphones and included GPS, dark, and phone lock data, and measures such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Loneliness Scale, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and Perceived Stress Scale. Using latitude and longitude data obtained from GPS measurements, various physical activity indicators were calculated, including the total distance traveled, average distance traveled, average distance traveled in the morning, average distance traveled in the afternoon, average distance traveled in the evening, and average distance traveled in the middle of the night. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to explore the relationship between GPS-based physical activity patterns and mental health. The study results indicated a significant negative correlation between the average distance traveled in the afternoon and PHQ-9 scores. Results indicated that the higher the afternoon activity, the lower the depressive symptoms. There was a positive correlation be-tween the PANAS-Pos score and the average distance traveled in the evening, indicating that positive emotions tended to increase as evening activities increased. This finding suggests a relationship between physical activity at specific times and mental health.

  • The notion that the axis of the shaft of the articulator must coincide the patient's mandibular transverse axis tells us the importance of locating the axis precisely. When using kinematic axis to transfer a cast to an articulator, the anatomic asymmetry of the contralateral points will result in certain distortion when the axis transferred to an articulator where the mechanical axis produces symmetry. In this study, after locating the true hinge axis point with Denar hinge axis locator, the discrepancies between true hinge axis point and arbitrary hinge axis point that was 13mm anterior from the posterior margin of center of trangus to the outer canthus of eye were measured. And the discrepancies between left and right true hinge axis point in the superoinferior and anteroposterior directions were measured. For this study, 20 dental students who have no missing teeth and no difficulties of mandibular movement were selected. Upper and lower cast of subjects were mounted on Denar Mark II articulator uisng Denar Slidematic face-bow and centric relation record for the measurement of discrepancies between left and right true hinge axis points. The results obtained as follows. 1. The mean distance from the arbitrary hinge axis point to the true hinge axis point was as follows. Right: horizontal distance; 1.99mm, vertical distance; 2.12mm, linear distance; 3.36 mm. Left: horizontal distance; 1.39mm, vertical distance; 2.06mm, linear distance; 2.09mm. Total: horizontal distance; 1.69mm, vertical distance; 2.09mm linear distance; 3.06 mm. 2. The 87.5% of true hinge axis points were within 5mm of the arbitrary hinge axis point. 3. The mean discrepancies between the right and left hinge axis point were 2.92mm in superoinferior direction and 4.74mm in anteroposterior direction. 4. When transferring the axis to the articulator, anatomic asymmetry between right: and left axis point produces in dislocation of cast on the articulator, and undesirable shift in esthetic tooth position will be resulted.
