Development of Reliability Design Technique and Life Prediction Model for Electronic Components (취성/연성 파괴에 대한 수명예측 모델 및 신뢰성 설계)

  • In this study, two types of fatigue tests were conducted. First, cyclic bending tests were performed using the micro-bending tester. A four-point bending test method was adopted, because it induces uniform stress fields within a loading span. Second, thermal fatigue tests were conducted using a pseudo power cycling machine which was newly developed for a realistic testing condition. The pseudo-power cycling method makes up for the weak points in a power cycling and a chamber cycling method. Two compositions of solder are tested in all test condition, one is lead-free solder (95.5Sn4.0Ag0.5Cu) and the other is eutectic lead-contained solder (63Sn37Pb). In the cyclic bending test, the solder that exhibits a good reliability can be reversed depending on the load conditions. The lead-contained solders have a longer fatigue life in the region where the applied load is high. On the contrary, the lead-free solder sustained more cyclic loads in the small load region. A similar trend was detected at the thermal cycling test. A three-dimensional finite element analysis model was constructed. A finite element analysis using ABAQUS was performed to extract the applied stress and strain in the solder joints. A constitutive model which includes both creep and plasticity was employed. Thermal fatigue was occurred due to the creep. And plastic deformation is main damage for bending failure. From the inelastic energy dissipation per cycle versus fatigue life curve, it can be found that the bending fatigue life is longer than the thermal fatigue life.

Reversed Cyclic Latcral Load Test of A 2-Bay 2-Story Reinforced Concrete Frame With Seismic Detail (내진상세를 가진 2경간 2층 철근콘크리트 골조의 반복횡하중 실험)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of elastic and inelastic bekavior of ductile momenting-resisting reinforced concrete frame subjected to reversed lateral loading such as earthquake excitations. For this purpose, a 2-bay 2-story reinforced concrete plane frame with seismic detail was designed and one 1/2.5-scale subassemblage was manufactured according to the required similitude law. Then, the reversed load test under the displacement control was performed statically to this subassemblage. Finally, the results of this test were analysed regarding to (1) the design load vs actual strength, (2) degradation in stiffness and strength. (3) failure mode or energy dissipation. (4) local deformations.

Effects of Tie Details on Seismic Performance of RC Columns Subjected to Low Compression Loads (낮은 압축력을 받는 철근콘크리트 기둥의 내진성능에 대한 띠철근 상세의 영향)

  • Various non-seismic tie details are frequently used for one- and two-story small buildings because the seismic demand on their deformation capacities is not relatively significant. To evaluate the effects of the non-seismic tie details on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete columns, six square columns with a cross section of $400{\times}400mm$ and six rectangular columns with a cross section of $250{\times}640mm$ were tested. The anchorage details at both ends and spacing of tie hoops, along with the cross-sectional shape and the magnitude of axial load, were considered as the primary test parameters. Test results showed that square columns had higher stiffness and lower lateral deformation rather than rectangular columns. Both lap spliced tie and U-shaped tie provided comparable or improved seismic performance to $90^{\circ}$ hook tie in terms of maximum strength, ductility, and energy dissipation. The predicted curves with modeling parameters in ASCE41-13 were conservative for test results of lap spliced tie and U-shaped tie specimens since plastic behavior after flexural yielding could not be considered. For economical design, ASCE41-13 should be revised with various test results of tie details.

  • In this study, in order to analyze the effect of cylindrical baffles on the debris flow energy, small-scale tests were conducted using a flume with cylindrical baffles. Various row numbers of installed baffles were considered as a test condition. To investigate the scale effect of debris flow and cylindrical baffles on flow characteristics, large-scale tests were also performed according to varying row numbers of baffle for same baffle configuration with small-scale tests. Both small- and large-scale test results showed that the increase of row number of baffle increase the energy dissipation effect due to reduction of the velocity and flow depth of debris flow.

  • Many existing transmission or communication towers designed several decades ago have undergone nonreversible performance degradation, making it hardly meet the additional requirements from upgrades in wind load design codes and extra services of electricity and communication. Therefore, a new-type non-destructive reinforcement method was proposed to reduce the on-site operation of drilling and welding for improving the quality and efficiency of reinforcement. Six built-up steel angle members were tested under compression to examine the reinforcement performance. Subsequently, the cyclic loading test was conducted on a pair of steel angle tower sub-structures to investigate the reinforcement effect, and a simplified prediction method was finally established for calculating the buckling bearing capacity of those new-type retrofitted built-up steel angles. The results indicates that: no apparent difference exists in the initial stiffness for the built-up specimens compared to the unreinforced steel angles; retrofitting the steel angles by single-bolt clamps can guarantee a relatively reasonable reinforcement effect and is suggested for the reduced additional weight and higher construction efficiency; for the substructure test, the latticed substructure retrofitted by the proposed reinforcement method significantly improves the lateral stiffness, the non-deformability and energy dissipation capacity; moreover, an apparent pinching behavior exists in the hysteretic loops, and there is no obvious yield plateau in the skeleton curves; finally, the accuracy validation result indicates that the proposed theoretical model achieves a reasonable agreement with the test results. Accordingly, this study can provide valuable references for the design and application of the non-destructive upgrading project of steel angle towers.

The Inelastic Behavior of High Strength Reinforced Concrete Tall Walls (고강도 철근콘크리트 고층형 내력벽의 비탄성 거동에 관한 실험 연구)

  • The test results from three one fourth scale models using high strength Reinforced Concrete $f_x=704\;kg/cm^2,\;f_y=5.830\;kg/cm^2$ are presented. Such specimens are considered to represent the critical 3 storics of 60-story tall building of a structural wall system in area of high seismicity respectively. They are tested under inplane vertical and horizontal loading. The main varlable is the level of axial stress. The amounts of vertical and horizontal reinforcement are identical for the three walls testcd. The cross-section of all walls is barbell shape. The aspectratio($h_w/I_w$) of test specimen is 1.8. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of levels of applied axial stresses on the inelastic behavior of high-strength R /C tall walls. Experimental results of high strength R /C tall walls subjected to axial load and simulated sels rnic loading show that it is possible to insure a ductlle dominant performance by promotmg flex ural yielding of vertical reinforcement and that axial stresses within $O.21f_x$ causes an increase in horizontal load-carrying capacity, initial secant st~ffness characteristics, but an decrease in displacement ductility. energy dissipation index and work damage index of high strength K /C tall walls

Analytical Model of Beam-Column Joint for Inelastic Behavior Under Various Loading History (철근콘크리트 보-기둥 접합부 해석모델)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the analytical model for the hysteretic behavior of Reinforced Concrete bearn-column joints under various loading history. Discrete line elernents , YVith inelastic rotational spring was adopted to consider the movement of plastic hinging zone influenced by the details of longitudinal reinforcements. Also hysteretic model was constructed by excluding such variables which can not be utilized in dynamic analysis of Reinforced Concrete. structure that it will be adoptable in two-dimensional inelastic frame ardysis with 6-DOF. From the analysis of previous test results, it was found that stiffness deterioration caused by inelastic hysteretic loadings can be predicted by the functron of basic pinching coefficients, ductility ratio.and yield strength ratio of members. Strength degradation coefficients were newly proposed to explain the difference of inelastic behavior of members caused by spacing ratio of transverse steel and sectlon aspect ratio. The energy dissipation capacities calculated using the analytical model proposed in thls paper show a good agreements w~lh test results by an error of 10~20%.

An Analysis of the Settlement Behavior of Soft Clayey Ground Considering the Effect of Creep during the Primary Consolidation (1차압밀과정중의 크리프의 영향을 고려한 연약 점성토지반의 침하거동 해석)

  • This paper is performed to examine the effect of creep during the primary consolidation and the applicability of the Yin's EVP (Elasto-Visco-Plastic) model. In ordinary consolidation theories using the elastic model, the primary consolidation process can be expressed but the secondary consolidation process cannot. It is due to the viscosity, which can express the secondary consolidation, and is sometimes related to the scale effect (difference of the thickness of clay layer between laboratory sample and field condition) such as hypotheses Type A and Type B shown by Ladd et al. (1977). Usually, the existence of the creep during the primary consolidation has been conformed and the Type B is well acceped. On the other hand, from the large-scaled consolidation tests the intermediate characteristic between Type A and Type B was proposed as Type C by Aboshi (1973). In this study, to clarify the effect of creep on the settlement-time relation during the primary consolidation in detail, Type B consolidation tests were performed using the separate-type consolidation test apparatus for a peat and clay. Then the test results were analyzed by using Yin's EVP Model (Yin and Graham, 1994). In conclusion, followings were obtained. At the end of primary consolidation, the compression for the subspecimens should not be the same because of the difference of the excess pore water pressure dissipation rate. And the average settlement measured by the separate-type consolidometer coincides with the analyzed one using the Yin's EVP model. As for the dissipation of the excess pore water pressure, however, the measured excess pore water pressure dissipates faster compared with the Yin's model.

Cyclic Test for RC Frame with Infilled Steel Plate (강판채움벽을 갖는 RC 골조에 대한 반복가력 실험)

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the cyclic behavior of the reinforced concrete frame with infilled steel plate. For this purpose, three-story compositewalls using infilled steel plates (RCSPW) were tested. The parameters for this test were the reinforcement ratio of the column and opening in the infilled steel plate. A reinforced concrete infilled wall (RCIW) and a reinforced concrete frame (RCF) were also tested for comparison. The deformation capacity of the RCSPW specimen was significantly greater than that of the RCIW specimen, although the two specimens exhibited the same load-carrying capacity. Like the steel plate walls with the steel boundary frame, RCSPW specimens showed excellent strength, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation capacity. Furthermore, by using infilled steel plates, shear cracking and failure of the column-beam joint were prevented. By using a strip model, the stiffness and strength of the RCSPW specimens were predicted. The results were compared with the test results.

A Study on Describing Uninterrupted Traffic Flows using Macroscopic Models (연속교통류 재현을 위한 거시적 모형의 비교 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of macroscopic traffic flow models with the analytical and field data. Five candidate models were selected as follows ; Lax Method Model, Upwind Scheme Model, Hilliges'Model, Papageorgiou's Model, and Cell-Transmission Model. In the analytical test scenario, the traffic condition was assumed that could cause the building and dissipation of queue, and each model was compared with analytical solutions and the numerical results. An analytical test indicated that both simple continuum and high order continuum models are able to reproduce queue building and dissipating behavior in a reasonable way A field test has shown that Upwind and Papageorgiou's model show similar performances. Considering the simplicity in model formulation and numerical computation, we firstly recommend Upwind scheme model , and secondly Papageorgiou's model that performed will to represent traffic flow in tests as candidate models for further development of simulation model for Naebu expressway in Seoul.
