  • $Pb_{1-x}La_xTi_{1-x/4}O_3$ (PLT(x)) thin film has been regarded as one of the most promising materials for applications of sensor, optic devices, and memory devices, because it exhibits various properties as changing the amount of Lanthanum component. So we have prepared PLT thin films on platinized silicon (actually Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si) substrates in oxygen ambient by laser ablation. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) revealed that the stoichiometric thin films were fabricated.

  • Nanocomposites comprised of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles were synthesized by a sol-gel process. The synthesized samples were studied by X-ray powder diffraction, atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The results show that the MgO nanoparticles, with an average diameter of 70 nm, are decorated uniformly on the surface of the GOs. By controlling the concentration of the MgO precursors and reaction cycles, it was possible to control the loading density and the size of the resulting MgO particles. Because the MgO particles are robustly anchored on the GO structure, the MgO/GOs nanocomposites will have future applications in the fields of adsorption and chemical sensing.

  • Microstructure and phase changes during the sintering of ZnO varistors were studied in ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems using acanning electron microscopy (SEM) with an energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The spinel phase and the Bi2O3 phase were formed by the decomposition of the pyrochlore phase during heating. The spinel particles (2-4$\mu\textrm{m}$), which were formed both along ther grain boundaries and within the ZnO grain, were always found near the pyrochlore phase. Intergranular phases (Bi2O3 and pyrochlore) were precipitated from the liquid phase during cooling. The Bi2O3 phases were located at the triple (or multiple) point of the ZnO grains. Cr2O3 played a role in decreasing the formation temperature of the spinel phase and Bi2O3 phase during sintering, and inhibited the grain growth.

  • The conventional brick-layer model is not satisfactory either in theory or in practice for the description of dispersive responses of polycrystalline solid electrolytes with current-constriction effects at the grain boundaries. Parallel networks of complex dielectric functions have been shown to successfully describe the AC responses of polycrystalline sodium conductors over a wide temperature and frequency range using only around ten model parameters of well-defined physical significance. The approach can be generally applied to many solid electrolyte systems. The present work illustrates the approach by simulation. Problems of bricklayer model analysis are demonstrated by fitting analysis of the simulated data under experimental conditions.

  • ZnO crystals with belt and comb shapes were synthesized without any catalysts through a simple thermal oxidation of ZnS powder in alumina crucible under air atmosphere. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern revealed that the ZnO crystals had wurtzite structure of hexagonal phase. Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectra showed that the ZnO was of high purity. In the cathodoluminescece spectra obtained for the ZnO crystals with belt and comb shapes, a strong ultraviolet emission centered at 380nm was observed, which indicates the ZnO crystal has high crystalline quality.

  • One dimensional (1D) nanostructures, including nanowires, nanorods, nanobelts, and nanotubes, have been the focus of current research on nanotechnology because of their fundamental significance in chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering, and potential applications in nanoelectronics. We have synthesized Te-rich $Sb_xTe_{1-x}$ nanowires and nanotubes via thermal evaporation method under vapor-solid mechanism. The physical morphology and chemical composition of the fabricated nanowires and nanotubes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).

  • The Alkali Aggregate Reaction(AAR), reported first by T. E. Stanton in 1940, is a reaction between certain siliceous aggregate and hydroxyl ions present in the pore fluid of a concrete. The damage of concrete structures, deteriorated by AAR, have been reported since using the crushed stones caused by the exhaustion of natural aggregates. This study was performed to investigate the AAR of crushed stones using chemical analysis, polarization microscope, XRD, chemical method(KS F 2545, ASTM C 289), mortar bar method(KS F 2546, ASTM C 227) and Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDXA) of reaction products by AAR in mortar bar.

  • The term Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) is used to describe a reaction between certain siliceous aggregates and hydroxyl ions present in the pore fluid of a concrete. The ASR is affected by the content of alkali, the particle size and the content of reactive aggregate, water-cement ratio, humidity, temperature and so on. In this paper, the fluence of alkali content and kind of added alkali to the ASR was studied. As a result, the more the content of alkali was increased, the more the mortar-bar was expand and the expansion of mortar-bar was showed differently with the added alkali kinds, The reaction products by ASR were observed by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and analyzed by EDXA(Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis) also and showed a gel composed of alkali(Na+, K+), silica and calcium.

  • In recent years, there's been strong demand for seawalls that havea gentle slope and permeability that serveswater affinity and disaster prevention from wave attack. The aim of this study is to examine wave transformation, including wave run-up that propagates on the coastal structures. A numerical model based on the weak nonlinear dispersive Boussinesq equation, together with the unsteady nonlinear Darcy law for fluid motion in permeable layer, is developed. The applicability of this numerical model is examined through Deguchi and Moriwaki's hydraulic model test on the permeable slopes. From this study, it is found that the proposed numerical model can predict wave transformation and run-up on the gentle slope with a permeable layer, but can't show accurate results for slopes steeper than about 1:10.

  • Bonding wires for high frequency device packaging have dominant parasitic inductances which limit the performance of semiconductor lasers. In this paper, the inductance sof bonding wires are claculated by the method of moments with incorporation of ohmic loss, and the wideband modulation characteristics are analyzed for ddifferent wire lengths and structures. We observed the modulation bandwidth for 1mm-length bonding wire lengths and structures. We observed the modulation bandwidth for 1mm-length bonding wire is 7 GHz wider than that for 2mm-length bonding wire. We also observed th estatic inductance calculation results in dispersive deviation of the parasitic inductance and the modulation characteristics from the wideband moment methods calculations. The angled bonding wire has much less parasitic inductance and improves the modulation bandwidth more than 6 GHz. This calculation resutls an be widely used for designing and packaging of high-speed semiconductor device.
