  • Since the microstructure of functional thin films depends on the dispersion characteristics of dense slurry, it is important to control the agglomerative nature of slurries under processing. The present authors have been discussing the model prediction of agglomerative nature and local rate of agglomeration in dense suspensions. The experiments have been peformed under shear flow using the nearly spherical and oblate type graphite particles. In this study, the experiment has been conducted using water and glycerol as dispersion media. Stress control type rheometer was used to measure the slurry rheology. Local agglomeration of graphite particles has been predicted by using Usui's model. The experimental results show that both the shape and slurry processing method affect on the local dispersion condition. The agglomeration formed by oblate type graphite particles seems to be more difficult to break up than that of spherical particles.

  • The one of the most important factors we shoud consider in designing the processes using porous media such as activated carbon adsorber is the prediction of the breakthrough curve. In this study, the breakthrough curve of BAC process for the treatment of refractory pollutants was evaluated by simplified engineering analysis. Through the experiments, the slope of the breakthrough curve can be determined by retardation factor, R and apparent dispersion coefficient, $D_{app}$ which is determined by hydrodynamic dispersion, mass transfer effects and isotherm. Estimated concentration of effluent was agreed with the experimental values. Also, it is possible to use this method for predicting the breakthrough curve of the pollutants removal and tranport of pollutants in porous media.

  • To predict diffusion and movement of k pollutants In coastal urban region a numerical simulation shouts be consider atmospheric flow field with land-sea breeze, mountain-valley wand and urban effects. In this study we used Lagrangian [article dispersion method In the atmospheric flow field of Pusan coastal region to depict diffusion and movement of the Pollutants emoted from particular sources and employed two grid system, one for large scale calculating region with the coarse mesh grid (CMG) and the other for the small region with the One mesh 914 (FMG). It was found that the dispersion pattern of the pollutants followed local circulation system in coastal urban area and wale air pollutants exhausted from Sasang moved Into Baekyang and Jang moutain, air pollutants from Janglim moved into Hwameong-dong region.

  • Use of the carbon nanotube is superior to general powder state materials of dispersion property. Because its ratio of diameter and length(aspect ratio) is very large, it has been known as a type of ideal nano-reinforcement composite. It used solution mixing method for specimen fabrication. To research dispersion property, we used FE-SEM(Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). As a result, this tendency confirms new conductivity network in which the carbon nanotube between carbon black constitute molecules shows a bond by similar constructive property.

  • Numerical solutions for the fractional differential dispersion equations with nonlinear forcing terms are considered. The backward Euler finite difference scheme is applied in order to obtain numerical solutions for the equation. Existence and stability of the approximate solutions are carried out by using the right shifted Grunwald formula for the fractional derivative term in the spatial direction. Error estimate of order $O({\Delta}x+{\Delta}t)$ is obtained in the discrete $L_2$ norm. The method is applied to a linear fractional dispersion equations in order to see the theoretical order of convergence. Numerical results for a nonlinear problem show that the numerical solution approach the solution of classical diffusion equation as fractional order approaches 2.

  • With the building is higher and higher, the stack effect is more and more remarkable. The stack effect accompanies many problems in high-rise building such as draft, troublesome in door opening, uncomfortable noise, contaminants dispersion, etc. In this study, the air movement and accompanied contaminants dispersion by stack effect in high-rise building, and diluting the contaminants concentration were analyzed. The analysis was performed for high-rise residential building in Seoul, Korea and the network simulation method was used. The results show that the indoor contaminants concentration and air movement caused by stack effect have interdependent relationship.

  • Mechanical properties of hot-pressed SiC whisker/Al2O3 composites were strongly dependent on the granular characteristics of mixed powder, which were controlled by co-dispersion condition, the existence of steric barrier on whisker surface, and granulating method, etc. Heat-treatment of SiC whiskers at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr in air was very effective both for achieving dispersion stability of whiskers with PVA adsorption and for obtaining excellent mechanical properties of resulting composites. It is believed from the fractography of composites prepared with various whisker dispersion conditions that the most common fracture origin of Al2O3 agglomerate could be attributed to whisker clusters arising due to flocculation. Further improvement of mechanical properties of composites were achieved by hot pressing green tapes prepared by Doctor-blade process, which promoted two-dimensional random alignment of whiskers.

  • This paper presents the numerical model developed to simulate the solute transport in rough and smooth single fractures. The roughness of these fractures is represented by using the fractal surface method. In this study, the 3D transport model, which is based on the random walk technique, is used to simulate the dispersion process of a solute which is represented by numerical particles. As the simulation results, it can be observed that the dispersion of solute in the fracture is significantly affected by the fracture roughness and particle size.

  • To predict flow fields and chemical agent dispersion in urban area, wind tunnel experiments was performed. The agent was adopted MS (methyl salicylate) because the real chemical agent is unsafe. The exact concentration of methyl salicylate was generated by the commercial gas generator (STI-2500) and three different obstacle shapes were applied (i.e., rectangular, cylinder and pyramid). The concentration was measured with the qualified ion mobility sensor and gas chromatography. The data necessary for virtual test method of the real chemical agent were obtained.

  • An efficient technique for the calculation of guided wave dispersion curves in composite pipes is presented. The technique uses a forward-calculating variational calculus approach rather than the guess and iterate process required when using the more traditional partial wave superposition technique The formulation of each method is outlined and compared. The forward-calculating formulation is used to develop finite element software for dispersion curve calculation. Finally, the technique is used to calculate dispersion curves for several structures, including an isotropic bar, two multi-layer composite bars, and a composite pipe.
