The Fabrication of Nickel-Diamond Composite Coating by Electroplating Method (전기도금방법을 이용한 Ni-Diamond 복합도금층 제조에 대한 연구)

  • The codeposition behavior of submicron sized diamond with nickel from nickel electrolytes has been investigated. Electroplating of diamond dispersed nickel composites was carried out on a rotating disk electrode (RDE). The effects of current type and current density on the electrodeposited Ni-diamond composite coating were investigated. The effects of surfactants on the composite coating were also investigated. The hardness of coating was measured with varying electroplating conditions using Micro Vickers. As diamond was incorporated into the coating, the hardness of coating as well as the wear resistance was improved. The hardness of the coating was increased as much as 100% and the wear resistance was improved as much as 27%. The hardness of composite coating layer increased slightly at the diamond content of above 20 gpl.

  • The stability of friction characteristics and thermal management for a dry type dual clutch transmission (DCT) are inferior to those of a wet clutch. Too high temperature resulting from frequent engagement of DCT speeds up degradation or serious wear of the pressure plate or burning of the clutch disk lining. Even though it is significantly important to estimate the temperature of a dry double clutch (DDC) in real-time, few meaningful study of the thermal model of DDC has been known yet. This study presented a thermal analytical model of lumped parameters for a DDC by analyzing its each component firstly. Then a series of experimental test was carried out on the test bench with a patented temperature telemetry system to validate the proposed thermal model. The thermal model, whose optimal parameter values were found by optimization algorithm, was also simulated on the experimental test conditions. The simulation results of DDC temperature show consistency with the experiment, which validates the proposed thermal model of DDC.

  • NAND flash memory-based Solid State Drives (SSD) have lots of merits compared to traditional hard disk drives (HDD). However, random write in SSD is still far slower than sequential read/write and random read. There are two independent approaches to resolve this problem: 1) using part of the flash memory blocks as log blocks, and 2) using internal write buffer (DRAM or Non-Volatile RAM) in SSD. While log blocks are managed by the Flash Translation Layer (FTL), write buffer management has been treated separately from FTL. Write buffer management schemes did not use the exact status of log blocks and log block management schemes in FTL did not consider the behavior of write buffer management scheme. In this paper, we first show that log blocks and write buffer have a tight relationship to each other, which necessitates integrated management of both of them. Since log blocks also can be viewed as another type of write buffer, we can manage both of them as an integrated write buffer. Then we provide three design criteria for the integrated write buffer management scheme which can be very useful to SSD firmware designers.

Types of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Produced in Enteric Bacteria Isolated from Sewage Plant Drain Water (하수처리수에서 분리된 장내세균의 광범위 베타락탐분해효소의 유형)

  • This study focused on typing of the extended-spectrum $\beta$-lactamase (ESBL) produced in organisms isolated from a natural environment, rather than a clinical setting. Samples were collected from drain water issuing from a sewage plant in Kwanganri (Busan, Korea). Following double disk synergy testing, 29 strains were selected as potential ESBL positive strains. Of these, 15 strains were transconjugants of the sodium azide resistant recipient strain Escherichia coli J53 and analyzed biochemically including indole, methyl-red, Voges-Proskauer, Simmon's citrate, decarboxylase-dihydrolase and sugar-fermentation tests. The tests classified the 15 strains as Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=13) and Escherichia coli (n=2). The type of ESBL from each strain was deduced by isoelectric focusing point analysis and DNA sequencing. The results indicated that the types of ESBL were SHV-12 (n=4) and SHV-12/TEM-1 (n=9) from K. pneumoniae and TEM-1 (n=2) from E. coli strains.

An Integrated File System for Guaranteeing the Quality of Service of Multimedia Stream (멀티미디어 스트림의 QoS를 보장하는 통합형 파일시스템)

  • Handling mixed workload in digital set-top box or streaming server becomes an important issue as integrated file system gets momentum as the choice for the next generation file system. The next generation file system is required to handle real-time audio/video playback while being able to handle text requests such as web page, image file, etc. Legacy file system provides only best effort I/O service and thus cannot properly support the QoS of soft real-time I/O. In this paper, we would like to present our experience in developing the file system which fan guarantee the QoS of multimedia stream. We classify all application I/O requests into two category: periodic I/O and sporadic I/O. The QoS requirement of multimedia stream could be guaranteed by giving a higher priority to periodic requests than sporadic requests. The proto-type file system(Qosfs) is developed on Linux Operating System.

Improvement of Virus Safety of an Antihemophilc Factor IX by Virus Filtration Process

  • Viral safety is an important prerequisite for clinical preparations of plasma-derived pharmaceuticals. One potential way to increase the safety of therapeutic biological products is the use of a virus-retentive filter. In order to increase the viral safety of human antihemophilic factor IX, particularly in regard to non-enveloped viruses, a virus removal process using a polyvinylidene fluoride membrane filter (Viresolve NFP) has been optimized. The most critical factor affecting the filtration efficiency was operating pH and the optimum pH was 6 or 7. Flow rate increased with increasing operating pressure and temperature. Recovery yield in the optimized production-scale process was 96%. No substantial changes were observed in the physical and biochemical characteristics of the filtered factor IX in comparison with those before filtration. A 47-mm disk membrane filter was used to simulate the process performance of the production-scale cartridges and to test if it could remove several experimental model viruses for human pathogenic viruses, including human hepatitis A virus (HAV), porcine parvovirus (PPV), murine encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV), human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), and bovine herpes virus (BHV). Non-enveloped viruses (HAV, PPV, and EMCV) as well as enveloped viruses (HIV, BVDV, and BHV) were completely removed during filtration. The log reduction factors achieved were $\geq$6.12 for HAV, $\geq$4.28 for PPV, $\geq$5.33 for EMCV, $\geq$5.51 for HIV, $\geq$5.17 for BVDV, and $\geq$5.75 for BHV. These results indicate that the virus filtration process successfully improved the viral safety of factor IX.

A STUDY ON THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH OF THE PORCELAIN LAMINATE ACCORDING TO SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF THE CUT ENAMEL (삭제된 법랑질의 표면거칠기에 따른 도재 라미네이트의 전단결합강도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of the porcelain laminate specimens according to the surface roughness of the cut enamel of human anterior teeth. Flat enamel surfaces were prepared in 30 extracted human anterior teeth with diamond disc which were divided into two groups. Group 1 Coarse enamel surface group prepared with LVS-3 bur. Group 2 Fine enamel surface group prepared with superfine diamond bur. 30 teeth specimens of two group were stored in normal saline during 24 hours. 30 disk - type porcelain laminate specimens with diameter 4mm and thickness 1mm were made and sand - blasted on internal surface which were to cemented on enamel surface. Porcelain laminate specimens were cemented on enamel surface with Choice Veneer System (Bisco Dental, U.S.A) according to manufacture's instructions. All teeth specimens of two groups were manipulated with same method and stored In normal saline before testing. An Universal Testing machine (Model No.UTM-4206,Instron, U.S.A) was used to apply shear loads in the vertical directed, and the force required for separation was recorded with a cross head speed of 3mm/min and 500kg in full scale. The results were as follow ; 1. The mean shear bond strength of coarse surface group was 36.30kg and that of fine surface group was 44.39 kg, but there was no significant difference in breaking strength of two groups(p>0.05).

  • Recently, there have been reports of severe symptoms of wear in bearings due to foreign substances mixed in lubricants. Therefore, studying the effects of foreign substances (such as combustion products and metallic debris) on the wear characteristics of journal bearings and proposing appropriate management standards for lubricant cleanliness have become necessary. Studies on the effect of particle size and concentration of foreign substances on surface damage have actively progressed in the recent times. These studies indicate the possibility of foreign substances causing direct wear of bearing surfaces. However, experiments conducted until now involve only basic tests such as the Pin-on-Disk test instead of those involving real bearing systems. This study experimentally examines the damage to the surface of a journal bearing due to foreign substances (combustion products and alumina) mixed with the lubricant, as well as the effect of the type and size of particles on its wear characteristics. The study uses an experimental journal bearing similar to a real bearing system for conducting the lubrication test. Hydrodynamic Lubrication (HL) numerical analysis, experiment results, and film parameters are used for calculating the operating conditions required for achieving the desired film thickness, and the results of the analysis are modified for considering the surface roughness. The run-time of the experiment is 10 min including the stabilization process. The experiment results show that alumina particles larger than the minimum film thickness cause significant surface damage.

Tribological Behaviors on nano-structured surface of the diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated soft polymer

  • Tribological behaviors of the hard film on soft substrate system were explored using the hard thin film of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated the soft polymer of polydimethysiloxane (PDMS). A DLC film with the Young's modulus of 100 GPa was coated on PDMS substrate with Young's modulus of 10 MPa using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique. The deposition time was varied from 10 sec to 10 min, resulting in nanoscale roughness of wrinkle patterns with the thickness of 20 nm to 510 nm, respectively, at a bias voltage of $400\;V_b$, working pressure 10 mTorr. Nanoscale wrinkle patterns with 20-100 nm in width and 10-30 nm height were formed on DLC coating due to the residual stress in compression and difference in Young's modulus. Nanoscale roughness effect on tribological behaviors was observed by performing a tribo-experiment using the ball-on-disk type tribometer with a steel ball of 6 mm in diameter at the sliding speed of 220 rpm, normal load of 1N and 25% humidity at ambient temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. Friction force were measured with respect to thickness change of coated DLC thin film on PDMS. It was found that with increases the thickness of DLC coating on PDMS, the coefficient of friction decreased by comparison to that of the uncoated PDMS. The wear tracks before and after tribo-test were analyzed using SEM and AFM.

  • The emergence of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing bacteria is causing very serious problems in Korea. Although there have been many reports about these bacteria Isolated from patients and clinical specimens, there is no report of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing organisms isolated from natural environment in Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the biological characteristics and extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase types of eighteen strains of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli isolated from a slaughterhouse in Pusan in Korea during 2002 to 2004. Extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamases were identified by double-disk synergy test, conjugation, isoelectric focusing values and gene sequencing. Eight strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and two strains of Eschericha coli were isolated kom pigs and transferred extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase genes to recipient Escherichia coli J53 (sodium azide resistant and ceftazidime senstive) strain by conjugation. The conjugants of extended spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamase genes were alignments and translated to amino acids by BCM and NCBI blast. Eight conjugants of Klebsiella pneumonae were typed TEM-52, and two strains of Escherichia coli, SHV-12, but CMY-1 type were not detected in this study.
