  • This study scrutinizes the common sense in the field of disability employment that the bigger the size of a firm, the lower the employment rate of people with disabilities. This common sense has been established by conventional cross-tabulation and multiple regression analyses without taking into account possible interactions between the sizes of firms and the industries in which they operate. This study shows that the distribution of the disability employment rate violates the linearity and homoscedasticity assumptions of the OLS. In an effort to find models that explain the data better, this study fits the OLS model, the weighted linear regression model, and the multinomial logit model as well as the path analysis which is meant to examine the relationships between firm size and other variables relevant to disability employment. The result shows that, when an interaction term between firm size and industry is added to the model, firm size does not have any significant effect on disability employment rate for those firms with 100 or more regular employees, to the contrary of the findings of prior studies. It also demonstrates that other factors such as job setting, the extent of helpfulness of disability employment employers perceive, employers' care for disability, and employers' awareness of disability policies may matter more than does firm size. This study proposes that future research and policy implementation for disability employment should pay no less attention to industry and other factors mentioned above than to firm size.

  • The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Fire needling therapy in patients with a vertebral compression fracture. Three patients with a acute vertebral compression fracture were treated using Fire needling therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of Fire needling therapy, we checked Numerical rating scale on a daily and Oswestry disability index on admission and discharge. Numerical rating scale decreased as the number of Fire needling therapy increased. Oswestry disability index on discharge improved compared to admission. The limitation of this study is the insufficient number of cases and outcome measurements. Further studies are needed to prove effect and safety.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which used acupuncture for the treatment of intellectual disability in China, and to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment. Methods The RCTs published from January 2017 to July 2021 were searched using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Then, those were analyzed by acupuncture treatment methods used and their results. Results A total of 18 randomized controlled trials were selected and analyzed. Most studies showed significantly higher Intelligence Quotient, Development Quotient, and a total effective rate in an acupuncture treatment group than those of the control group. The most used acupoints were EX-HN1 followed by Niesanzhen, Naosanzhen, Zhisanzhen, Shouzhizhen, GV20. Conclusions Based on the results of the analyzed randomized controlled trials, an acupuncture treatment has shown to be effective in the treatment of intellectual disability. However, additional well designed clinical trials are needed to solidify these findings.

  • The objective of this study is to explore the characteristic of welfare for the disabled on the focus of 'Welfare Law for the Disabled' through multiple paradigm of disability. A proper understanding of disability theory requires more than a distinction between individual and social model approaches. It is also helpful to distinguish between materialist and idealist explanations. These two dimensions are used to generate a four-fold typology. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1981', individual materialist position was dominated. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1989', individual idealist position dawned to appear. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1999' which expanded diverse community services, individual idealist position was strengthened and social creationist position started to appear. Several characteristics are found out after analysis of 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1999'. Individual materialist position, individual idealist position, and social creationist position are mixed. Though the goal of the law is based on social creationist position, the central policies and measures are based on individual materialist position and individual idealist position. So it is necessary to amend 'Welfare Law for the Disabled' in the direction of including social creationist position and social constructionist position.

The data collection process had been conducted from January 2014 to May, which is commonly utilized for qualitative case studies, and comparative analysis between cases were practiced for analysis. For credibility of the research results, it obtained severity at each stage by meeting the standard. The analysis results were largely divided into "growth story of non-disabled adolescents" and "life of non-disabled adolescents". Nine upper categories analyzed the common features in each case. The nine categories were "no one tells me to study", "advance while learning the sense of academic achievement", "hide into my own space", "having to grown up early", "different parents but same love", "relatives raised me", "have a friend who accepts me as I am", "being pressed by poverty", and "standing on a knife edge of being hurt and taking heart". • This study aimed (a) to examine the association between chronic illness and multidimensional disability(i.e., psychological/emotional functions, activity capacity, and participation frequency) among older adults with disabilities, (b) to investigate the effect of formal and informal supports on multidimensional disability, and (c) to analyze the moderating effects of formal and informal supports on the association between chronic illness and multidimensional disability. This study used 2014 Korea Welfare Panel Study(the 9th wave) data and 450 older adults with disabilities aged 50 and over were selected as the study target. The research model was analyzed by structural equation modeling using IBM AMOS 22.0. Based on the ICF framework developed by WHO, health condition was measured by the level of chronic illness; psychological/emotional functions were measured by health satisfaction, self-esteem, and depression; activity capacity was measured by ADLs and IADLs; participation frequency was measured by the total number of social activities joined; formal support was measured by the total number of formal welfare services for people with disabilities utilized; informal support was measured by perceived social support. The findings showed that the level of chronic illness was negatively associated with psychological/emotional functions among the older adults with disabilities. The informal support positively affected psychological/emotional functions and activity capacity, whereas the formal support showed the opposite result. That is, the formal support negatively influenced activity capacity and showed a moderating effect on the association between the level of chronic illness and the psychological/emotional functions in a reverse way. Based on the results, practice and policy implications for alleviating disability level among the older adults with disabilities were discussed.
