  • The estimation method of the sea wind information using the nearby land wind data have been widely used. However, it is insufficient to examine the limitation of the method based on the characteristics of the wind data. In this study, the characteristics of the wind data are analysed and compared to check the limitation of the existing conventional method. The data are observed at the same time period in the land and sea stations in Pohang coastal zone. In particular, the analysis are focused on the direction data simply overlooked in the analysis target. The method is suggested as a useful tool for the various analysis of the wind direction data. The results show that the statistical informations between the land and sea wind data are quite different though the lineal distance between stations are not large (${\fallingdotseq}3.8km$). The difference is attributed to come from the geometrical gradient and elevation difference between land and sea areas. As a consequence, the quantitative estimation error should be checked preliminarily using the land-sea monitoring data sets because the sea wind estimation using land data is essentially unacceptable.

  • The current is considered in the conventional manoeuvering equation. This equation is represented as the nonlinear state and measurement equations in which external forces and the direction and the velocity of current are augmented as that variables. The external forces are modeled as the third-order Gauss-Markov processes and the direction and the velocity of current are assumed to be constant. The augmented state variables are estimated with extended Kalman-Bucy filter and the fixed-interval smoother. While Hwang estimated motion state variables, hydrodynamic coefficients and the current variables simultaneously by using extended Kalman filter, external forces of surge, sway and yaw and the direction and the velocity of current are the only parameters to be estimated in the estimation-before-modeling method. The current variables are satisfactorily estimated in simulation process where the measurement noise is present.

  • Cost of construction project have to be estimated based on drawing before execution. Cost estimate and check would be performed numerously for preparing general outline of requirements and determining the budget at conceptual planning stage, for obtaining decision on every matter related to design, specification, construction and cost at design stage, and for predicting bidding cost. Thus, importance of cost estimation cannot emphasize too much in construction. However, there are lack of standard estimation method, process, and cost analysis method, that square foot estimation method is as used as eyer, in Korea. Thus, This research present the direction for improving cost estimation and management in construction; It is demanded that establishing standard data base methodology, multi-level database model CUBE, and standard cost planning process, choosing cost estimation methodology according to objectives and cost planning process, and making more experts.

  • Subspace-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms have a difficulty in dealing with coherent signals caused by multi-path environment. As one of attempts to solve this problem, a spatial differencing method is known to be useful for not only estimating DOAs of the coherent signals but also improving the number of resolvable wavefronts even more than the number of antenna elements. However, since the conventional spatial differencing method uses only the partial statistics of the observed data, this method suffers from the performance degradation in estimation accuracy caused by the residual correlation between the uncorrelated signals. To cope with this problem, in this paper, a generalized spatial differencing method is proposed. Unlike the conventional method, the proposed method utilizes the entire statistics of the received signals. Therefore, the additional performance enhancement in both estimation accuracy and the number of resolvable wavefronts can be achieved. The performance analyses with computer simulations show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method in terms of the estimation accuracy and the number of resolvable wavefronts.

  • This paper presents the analytic derivation of the SINR, when a linear array antenna is accommodated into the cellular CDMA basestation receiver, in relation to the two major performance effecting factors in beamforming(BF) applications, i. e., the direction selectivity, which refers to the narrowness of the mainbeam width, and the direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation accuracy. The analytically derived results are compared with the operation simulation of the receiver realized with the several BF algorithms and their agreements are confirmed, consequently verifying the correctness of the analysis and the operation simulation. In order to investigate separately the effects of the errors occurring in the direction estimation and in the interference suppression, which are the two major functional components of general BF algorithms, both the algorithms of steering BF and the minimum- variance- distortionless-response(MVDR) BF are applied to the analysis. A signal model to reflect the spatially scattering phenomenon of the RF waves entering into the .:nay antenna, which directly affects on the accuracy of the BF algorithm's direction estimation, is also suggested in this paper and applied to the analysis and the operation simulation. It is confirmed from the results that the enhancement of the direction selectivity of the away antenna is not desirable in view of both the implementation economy and the BF algorithm's robustness to the erroneous factors. Such a trade-off characteristics is significant in the sense that it can be capitalized to obtain an economic means of BF implementation that does not severely deteriorate its performance while ensuring the robustness to the erroneous effects, consequently manifesting the significance of the analysis results of this paper that can be used as a design reference in developing BF algorithms to the cellular CDMA system.

  • The main purpose of this study is to suggest the more reliable flow direction methods within the framework of DEM by investigating the existing methodologies. To this end SFD(single flow direction method), MFD(multiple flow direction method) and IFD(Infinite flow direction method) are applied to determination of flow direction for water particles in Jeonjeokbigyo basin, and then assessed with respect to the variation of flow accumulation. As the main results the different patterns of flow accumulation are found out from each application of flow direction methods. As the flow dispersion increases on DEM contributing areas to outlet grow in sequence of SFD, IFD, MFD but contribution of individual pixels into outlet decreases. Especially MFD and IFD tend to make additional hydrologic abstraction from rainfall excess due to the flow dispersion within flow paths on DEM. Based on parameter estimation for power law distribution by maximum likelihood flow accumulation can be thought of as scale invariance factor. Combination of several flow direction methods could give rise to the more realistic water flow on DEM through separate treatment of flow direction methods for dispersion and aggregation effects of water flow within different topographies.

  • This paper proposes the nearfield eigenvector method for array shape estimation using reference signals basted on the nearfield signal modeling. Generally. direction finding methods assume the reference signals to be plainwave. However, in case of the reference signals in nearfield, this assumption is inadequate for array shape estimation. In this paper. the nearfield reference signals are modeled. and we propose the nearfield eigenvector method. The numerical experiments indicated that the proposed method shows good performance for array shape estimation regardless of the ranges of the reference signals.

  • Generally, moving images contain the various components in motions, which reange from a static object and background to a fast moving object. To extract the accurate motion parameters, we must consider the various motions. That requires a wide search egion in motion estimation. The wide search, however, causes a high computational complexity. If we have a few knowledge about the motion direction and magnitude before motion estimation, we can determine the search location and search window size using the already-known information about the motion. In this paper, we present a local adaptive motion estimation approach that predicts a block motion based on spatio-temporal neighborhood blocks and adaptively defines the search location and search window size. This paper presents a technique for reducing computational complexity, while having high accuracy in motion estimation. The proposed algorithm is introduced the forward and backward projection techniques. The search windeo size for a block is adaptively determined by previous motion vectors and prediction errors. Simulations show significant improvements in the qualities of the motion compensated images and in the reduction of the computational complexity.

  • Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of space signals is a basic problem in array signal processing. DOA estimation based on the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm can theoretically overcome the Rayleigh limit and achieve super resolution. However, owing to its inadequate real-time performance and accuracy in practical engineering applications, its applications are limited. To address this problem, in this study, a DOA estimation algorithm with high parallelism and precision based on an analysis of the characteristics of complex matrix eigenvalue decomposition and the coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm is proposed. For parallel and single precision, floating-point numbers are used to construct an orthogonal identity matrix. Thus, the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm are guaranteed. Furthermore, the accuracy and computation of the fixed-point algorithm, double-precision floating-point algorithm, and proposed algorithm are compared. Without increasing complexity, the proposed algorithm can achieve remarkably higher accuracy and efficiency than the fixed-point algorithm and double-precision floating-point calculations, respectively.
