Relationship between Carbonation Rate and Compressive Strength in Concrete with Unclear Local Aggregate Qualities (골재 지역 특성이 불분명한 콘크리트의 탄산화 속도 및 강도 상관성)

  • When concrete with slag powder or fly ash is under an accelerated carbonation test at early age, a very complicated carbonation behavior occurs since several reactions covering cement hydration, pozzolanic reaction, and carbonation reaction occu simultaneously. In particular, fine and coarse aggregates with poor quality were used, the trend with strength development and carbonation behavior was not clear. In this study, concrete samples with three design strength grade(24 MPa, 27 MPa, and 30 MPa) were manufactured with different aggregates site(A, B, and C). Compressive strength test were performed considering curing ages(7 and 28 days), and the accelerated carbonation tests were performed for 8 weeks for evaluating carbonation rate. The relationship between compressive strength and carbonation rate was analyzed considering mix properties and the aggregate site conditions. In addition, the minimum cover depth satisfying intended service life was obtained through carbonation design based on Domestic Design Code, and the necessities for improving design parameters (direction coefficient and effective water-binder ratio) were suggested.

A Study on the dose distribution produced by $^{32}$ P source form in treatment for inhibiting restenosis of coronary artery (관상동맥 재협착 방지를 위한 치료에서 $^{32}$ P 핵종의 선원 형태에 따른 선량분포에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the dose distributions of a $^{32}$ p uniform cylindrical volume source and a surface source, a pure $\beta$emitter, were calculated in order to obtain information relevant to the utilization of a balloon catheter and a radioactive stent. The dose distributions of $^{32}$ p were calculated by means of the EGS4 code system. The sources are considered to be distributed uniformly in the volume and on the surface in the form of a cylinder with a radius of 1.5 mm and length of 20 mm. The energy of $\beta$particles emitted is chosen at random in the $\beta$ energy spectrum evaluated by the solution of the Dirac equation for the Coulomb potential. Liquid water is used to simulate the particle transport in the human body. The dose rates in a target at a 0.5mm radial distance from the surface of cylindrical volume and surface source are 12.133 cGy/s per GBq (0.449 cGy/s per mCi, uncertainty: 1.51%) and 24.732 cGy/s per GBq (0.915 cGy/s per mCi, uncertainty: 1.01%), respectively. The dose rates in the two sources decrease with distance in both radial and axial direction. On the basis of the above results, the determined initial activities were 29.69 mCi and 1.2278 $\mu$Ci for the balloon catheter and the radioactive stent using $^{32}$ P isotope, respectively. The total absorbed dose for optimal therapeutic regimen is considered to be 20 Gy and the treatment time in the case of the balloon catheter is less than 3 min. Absorbed doses in targets placed in a radial direction for the two sources were also calculated when it expressed initial activity in a 1 mCi/ml volume activity density for the cylindrical volume source and a 0.1 mCi/cm$^2$ area activity density for the surface source. The absorbed dose distribution around the $^{32}$ P cylindrical source with different size can be easily calculated using our results when the volume activity density and area activity density for the source are known.

  • Air transport today is a means of transport that is optimized for exchanges between nations. Around the world, has experienced an increase in operating and the number of airline route expansion that has entered into the international aviation agreements in order to take advantage of the air transport efficient, but the possibility of the occurrence of air transport accidents increased. When compared to the accident of other means of transport, development of air transport accidents, not high, but it leads to catastrophe aviation accident occurs. Air Transport accident many international transportation accident than domestic transportation accident, in the event of an accident, the analysis of the legal responsibility of the shipper or the like is necessary or passenger air carrier. Judgment of the legal order of discipline of air transport accident is a classification of the type of air transport agreement. Depending on the object, air transport agreements are classified into the contract of carriage of aviation of the air passenger transportation contract. For casualties occurs, air passenger transportation accident is a need more discussion of legal discipline for this particular. Korean Commercial Code, it is possible to reflect in accordance with the actual situation of South Korea the contents of the treaty, which is utilized worldwide in international air transport, even on the system, to control land, sea, air transport and welcoming to international standards. However, Korean Commercial Code, the problem of the Montreal Convention has occurred as it is primarily reflecting the Montreal Convention. Seismic Performance of a Non-Seismic Designed Pier Wall and Retrofit Concept (비내진 벽식 교각의 내진성능 및 보강개념)

  • It is well known that reinforcement details in the plastic hinge region of bridge piers give the most important effects on the seismic performance of bridges, from investigations of bridge failures in many earthquake events and in laboratory tests. Longitudinal reinforcement details give larger effects than lateral reinforcement details do. The lap-spliced longitudinal steel shows slip during earthquake events, which results in low ductility and inadequate seismic performance. However, before the issue of the earthquake design code, a considerable number of bridge piers were constructed with lap-spliced longitudinal steel in the plastic hinge region. Therefore, a large amount of research has been conducted on the seismic performance and retrofit of circular and rectangular shaped bridge columns with lap-spliced longitudinal steel. However, research on wall type piers is very limited. This paper investigates the seismic performance of a pier wall by a quasi-static test in the weak axis direction and proposes a retrofit method. From the test with variables being the longitudinal steel detail and the transverse steel amount, it is shown that the currently used definition of yield displacement is not adequate. Therefore a new definition of yield displacement for the ductility investigation for a pier wall is proposed. In addition, a retrofit method by steel plates and bolts is proposed to improve ductility, and test results show that slip of the longitudinal steel is prevented by up to a considerably large displacement.

  • For the past decades, the analytic model for distributed surface roughness has been developed to improve the accuracy of the icing simulation code. However, it remains limitations to validate the developed model and determine the empirical parameters due to the absence of the quantitative experimental data which were focused on the surface state. To this end, the experimental study conducted to analyze the ice covered surface state from a micro-perspective. Above all, the tendency of the smooth zone width which occurs near the stagnation point has been quantitatively analyzed. It is observed that the smooth zone width is increased as growing the ambient temperature and freestream velocity. Next, the characteristics of the ice covered surface under rime and glaze ice have been analyzed. For rime ice conditions, ice elements are developed as the opaque circular corn in the opposite direction of freestream. The height and interval of each circular corn are increased as rising the ambient temperature. For glaze ice conditions, numerous lumps of translucent ice can be observed. This is because the beads formed by gravity concentrate and froze on the lower surface.

Study on Optimization of Detection System of Prompt Gamma Distribution for Proton Dose Verification (양성자 선량 분포 검증을 위한 즉발감마선 분포측정 장치 최적화 연구)

  • In proton therapy, in vivo dose verification is one of the most important parts to fully utilize characteristics of proton dose distribution concentrating high dose with steep gradient and guarantee the patient safety. Currently, in order to image the proton dose distribution, a prompt gamma distribution detection system, which consists of an array of multiple CsI(Tl) scintillation detectors in the vertical direction, a collimator, and a multi-channel DAQ system is under development. In the present study, the optimal design of prompt gamma distribution detection system was studied by Monte Carlo simulations using the MCNPX code. For effective measurement of high-energy prompt gammas with enough imaging resolution, the dimensions of the CsI(Tl) scintillator was determined to be $6{\times}6{\times}50mm^3$. In order to maximize the detection efficiency for prompt gammas while minimizing the contribution of background gammas generated by neutron captures, the hole size and the length of the collimator were optimized as $6{\times}6mm^2$ and 150 mm, respectively. Finally, the performance of the detection system optimized in the present study was predicted by Monte Carlo simulations for a 150 MeV proton beam. Our result shows that the detection system in the optimal dimensions can effectively measure the 2D prompt gamma distribution and determine the beam range within 1 mm errors for 150 MeV proton beam.

  • Recently renewable energy such as offshore wind energy takes a higher interest due to the depletion of fossil fuel and the environmental pollution. This paper deals with multi-body dynamics (MBD) analysis technique for offshore wind turbine system considering aerodynamic loads and Thevenin equation used for determination of electric generator torque. Dynamic responses of 5MW offshore wind turbine system are evaluated via the MBD analysis, and the system is the horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) which generates electricity from the three blades horizontally installed at upwind direction. The aerodynamic loads acting on the blades are computed by AeroDyn code, which is capable of accommodating a generalized dynamic wake using blade element momentum (BEM) theory. In order that the characteristics of dynamic loads and torques on the main joint parts of offshore wind turbine system are simulated similarly such an actual system, flexible body modeling including the actual structural properties are applied for both blade and tower in the multi-body dynamics model.

Martian Bow Shock and Magnetic Pile-Up Barrier Formation Due to the Exosphere Ion Mass-Loading

  • Bow shock, formed by the interaction between the solar wind and a planet, is generated in different patterns depending on the conditions of the planet. In the case of the earth, its own strong magnetic field plays a critical role in determining the position of the bow shock. However, in the case of Mars of which has very a small intrinsic magnetic field, the bow shock is formed by the direct interaction between the solar wind and the Martian ionosphere. It is known that the position of the Martian bow shock is affected by the mass loading-effect by which the supersonic solar wind velocity becomes subsonic as the heavy ions originating from the planet are loaded on the solar wind. We simulated the Martian magnetosphere depending on the changes of the density and velocity of the solar wind by using the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic model built by modifying the comet code that includes the mass loading effect. The Martian exosphere model of was employed as the Martian atmosphere model, and only the photoionization by the solar radiation was considered in the ionization process of the neutral atmosphere. In the simulation result under the normal solar wind conditions, the Martian bow shock position in the subsolar point direction was consistent with the result of the previous studies. The three-dimensional simulation results produced by varying the solar wind density and velocity were all included in the range of the Martian bow shock position observed by Mariner 4, Mars 2, 3, 5, and Phobos 2. Additionally, the simulation result also showed that the change of the solar wind density had a greater effect on the Martian bow shock position than the change of the solar wind velocity. Our result may be useful in analyzing the future observation data by Martian probes.

Adaptive Vehicle License Plate Recognition System Using Projected Plane Convolution and Decision Tree Classifier (투영면 컨벌루션과 결정트리를 이용한 상태 적응적 차량번호판 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, an adaptive license plate recognition system which detects and recognizes license plate at real-time by using projected plane convolution and Decision Tree Classifier is proposed. And it was tested in circumstances which presence of complex background. Generally, in expressway tollgate or gateway of parking lots, it is very difficult to detect and segment license plate because of size, entry angle and noisy problem of vehicles due to CCD camera and road environment. In the proposed algorithm, we suggested to extract license plate candidate region after going through image acquisition process with inputted real-time image, and then to compensate license size as well as gradient of vehicle with change of vehicle entry position. The proposed algorithm can exactly detect license plate using accumulated edge, projected convolution and chain code labeling method. And it also segments letter of license plate using adaptive binary method. And then, it recognizes license plate letter by applying hybrid pattern vector method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can recognize the front and rear direction license plate at real-time in the presence of complex background environments. Accordingly license plate detection rate displayed $98.8\%$ and $96.5\%$ successive rate respectively. And also, from the segmented letters, it shows $97.3\%$ and $96\%$ successive recognition rate respectively.

An Analysis of Middle School Students' Perceptions and Learning Satisfaction in SMART Learning-based Science Instruction (스마트러닝 기반 과학수업에 대한 중학생들의 인식과 학습만족도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the middle school students' perception and their learning satisfaction in SMART learning based science instruction. Three types of modules on the solar system and lunar phases unit at the middle school level were developed and lessons on each module were taught to 207 student participants. All participants were provided with tabletPC(iPad2) with iOS5 installed, and using astronomy app Solar Walk, mirroring function, QR code, and Google Presentation, the lessons were carried out both in classroom and at home. The instrument for assessing students' perception on the SMART learning-based instruction was developed based on 4 factors including Self-directed, Motivation, Adaptiveness, and Technology Embedded, with a Likert scale from 1-5 on 20 items. The learning satisfaction survey instrument was originally from Keller's work (1987), and its test items were adapted and modified. To reveal the perception and learning satisfaction about SMART learning-based science lessons, the participants were comparatively analyzed by gender and science achievement levels. Results indicated that male students showed positive perception for the SMART learning-based instruction. Group with higher science achievement scores showed more positive perception of the SMART learning-based instruction in terms of Self-directed and Motivation factor. Also, the learning satisfaction of male students was higher than female students and group with higher academic ability more satisfied with the SMART learning-based instruction than the low group. The results provide implications for future development of programs and help set a direction of increasing the use of a SMART learning-based science in school.
