  • The proposed algorithm uses a modified adaptive law which consists of switching -modification, normalized augmented error and low-pass filtered signal of output tracking error, furthermore, the proportional term that is a product of the output tracking error and the bounded signal having an information of output tracking error is added to the conventional control law for improvement of robustness and performance of an adaptive system. For the arbitrary nth order system, mathematical analysis and computer simulation are used to demonstrate improvement of output error characteristics, guaranteeing boundedness of all signals in the overall system.

  • The PID trajectory tracking controller for robotic systems shows performance limitation imposed by inverse dynamics according to desired trajectory. Since the equilibrium point can not be defined for the control system involving performance limitation, we define newly the quasi-equilibrium region as an alternative for equilibrium point. This analysis result of performance limitation can guide us the auto-tuning method for PID controller. Also, the quasi-equilibrium region is used as the target performance of auto-tuning PID trajectory tracking controller. The auto-tuning law is derived from the direct adaptive control scheme, based on the extended disturbance input-to-state stability and the characteristics of performance limitation. Finally, experimental results show that the target performance can be achieved by the proposed automatic tuning method.

  • The optimal estimation of a bearing only target tracking problem be achieved through the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation and the Bayesian update. Recently, a nonlinear filtering algorithm using a direct quadrature method of moments in which the associated Fokker-Planck equation can be propagated efficiently and accurately was proposed. Although this approach has demonstrated its promising in the field of nonlinear filtering in several examples, the "degeneracy" phenomenon, similar to that which exists in a typical particle filter, occasionally appears because only the weights are updated in the modified Bayesian rule in this algorithm. Therefore, in this paper to enhance the performance, a more stable measurement update process based upon the update equation in the Extended Kalman filters and a more accurate initialization and re-sampling strategy for weight and abscissas are proposed. Simulations are used to show the effectiveness of the proposed filter and the obtained results are promising.

  • This paper deals with design and control of passive multiple trailer systems fer practical applications. Due to cost and complexity of trailer mechanism, passive systems are preferred to active systems in this research. The control objective is to minimize trajectory tracking errors of passive multiple trailers. Three types of passive trailer systems-direct-hooked, three-point, and off-hooked- are discussed in this paper. Trajectory tracking performance and stability issues under constant velocity motion are carried out for three types. Various simulations and experiments have been also performed for these three types. It is shown that the proposed off-hooked trailer system produces better tracking performance than the other types.

  • This letter describes an efficient technique for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of an energy harvesting device. It is based on controlling the device voltage at the point of maximum power. Using a microcontroller with a power saving technique, the MPPT algorithm maintains the maximum power with low power consumption. An experiment shows that the algorithm maximizes the energy transfer power using an energy management IC fabricated in a 0.18-${\mu}m$ process. Compared to direct energy transfer to a battery, the proposed technique is more efficient for low-energy harvesting under variable conditions.

  • Electromagnetic waves from the satellite may be utilized to direct the tracking antenna toward the satellite. We design and fabricate the feed appropriate to the monopulse tracking technique which derive angle-error information on the basis of a single pulse. The feed consists of five cavity-backed turnstile elements mounted on a common ground plane. The turnstile dipole are connected to a set of five quadrature hybrids which convert the dual linear polarization into dual circular polarization. The five feed outputs are then processed in the monopulse comparator which is constructed in microstrip for compactness.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for designing the path tracking controller using an approach angle concept for an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV is controlled by the surge speed and yaw rate: there is no side thruster. To solve this underactuated AUV problem in the path tracking, we introduce an approach angle concept which makes the AUV converge to the reference path. And we design the path tracking controller using the proposed approach angle. To design the path tracking controller, we obtain the new vehicle's error dynamics in the body-fixed frame, and then design the path tracking controller based on Lypunov direct method. Finally, some simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • Adaptive anti-sway and trajectory tracking control of overhead crane is presented, which utilizes Fuzzy Uncertainty Observer(FUO) and Fuzzy based Variable Structure Control(FVSC). We consider an overhead crane system which can be decoupled into the actuated and unactuated subsystems with its own lumped uncertainty such as parameter uncertainties and external disturbance. First, a new method for anti-sway control using FVSC is proposed to improve the conventional method based on Lyapunov direct method, while a conventional trajectory tracking control law using feedback linearization is directly adopted. Second, FUO is designed to estimate one of the two lumped uncertainties which can compensate both of them, based on the fact that two lumped uncertainties are coupled with each other. Then, an adaptive anti-sway control is proposed by incorporating the proposed FVSC and FUO. Under the condition that the observation error is Uniformly Ultimately Bounded(UUB) within an arbitrarily shrinkable region, the overall closed-loop system is shown to be Globally Uniformly Ultimately Bounded(GUUB). In addition, the Global Asymptotic Stability(GAS) of it is shown under the vanishing disturbance assumption. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme has been confirmed by numerical simulations.

  • For the moving objects with environmental sensors such as object tracking moving robot with audio and video sensors, environmental information acquired from sensors keep changing according to movements of objects. In such case, due to lack of adaptability and system complexity, conventional control schemes show limitations on control performance, and therefore, sensory-motor systems, which can intuitively respond to various types of environmental information, are desirable. And also, to improve the system robustness, it is desirable to fuse more than two types of sensory information simultaneously. In this paper, based on Braitenberg's model, we propose a sensory-motor based fusion system, which can trace the moving objects adaptively to environmental changes. With the nature of direct connecting structure, sensory-motor based fusion system can control each motor simultaneously, and the neural networks are used to fuse information from various types of sensors. And also, even if the system receives noisy information from one sensor, the system still robustly works with information from other sensors which compensates the noisy information through sensor fusion. In order to examine the performance, sensory-motor based fusion model is applied to object-tracking four-foot robot equipped with audio and video sensors. The experimental results show that the sensory-motor based fusion system can tract moving objects robustly with simpler control mechanism than model-based control approaches.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that can be used to back-stepping controller design for speed control of Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor. First, back-stepping controller is designed with load torque estimator. The estimator is included to adapt to the variation of load torque in real time. Finally, the proposed controller is tested through experiment with a 120W BLDC motor for the angular velocity reference tracking performance and load torque volatility estimation. The simulation result verifies the performance of the proposed controller.
