  • In this paper, a novel log-periodic cantor dipole antenna(LPCDA), which is composed of the cantor-dipole elements instead of the existing dipole elements, is proposed. The proposed antenna makes possible the antenna miniaturization by using the cantor-dipole elements. To investigate the reliability of the proposed antenna, LPCDA is designed and analyzed at $1{\sim}4GHz$ band and compared with LPDA(Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna) characteristics. It is shown that although the elements of LPCDA are 13.3% shorter than LPDA, the gain increases about 2dB and VSWR is less than 2 in at the upper band.

  • In this paper, the electromagnetically coupled microstrip dipole antenna by adapting one parasitic metal-strip(dipole) between the microstrip transmission line open end and the radiating microstrip dipole antenna is presented for the bandwidth improvement The microstrip dipole antenna is simulated using Ensemble 51 simulation package The effects of varying several physical parameters, such as the lengths of radiating dipole and parasitic dipole and the width of parasitic dipole are investigated The bandwidth behavior of the 3-layer optimum antenna is compared with that of 2-layer antenna without the parasitic dipole. Experimental result for the obtained broadband performance is presented and discussed.

  • This paper presents the design of a calculable standard dipole antenna with a hybrid balun in the frequency range of 1 GHz to 3 GHz. A new formula of the antenna factor for a dipole antenna with a hybrid balun is derived using the power mismatch-loss concept. The antenna factors derived in this paper are in good agreement with the results calculated from S-parameters. The design results show that the calculable dipole antenna with a hybrid balun can be characterized by power mismatch-loss component factors.

  • A CPW-fed to CPS dipole antenna of triangular loop director by microstrip tapered balun is proposed for dual and wide band operations, in this paper. The proposed antenna is consisted of a CPW-fed to CPS transform, microstrip tapered balun element, CPS dipole driver and triangular loop director. A dual and wide bandwidth of the proposed dipole antenna is realized by introducing the triangular loop director and taper matching element. The operated frequency bandwidth is 1GHz (2.14~3.14 GHz) and 1.9 GHz (4.6~6.5 GHz) to return loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measured return loss of the proposed antenna showed good results of the dual and wide band operating frequency and the radiation pattern. The proposed antenna is able to support WLAN wireless communications applications.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar dipole antenna fed by a microstrip (MS) line is studied. The proposed broadband dipole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) receiving. The dipole is fed by an MS line with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $90mm{\times}180mm$. The dipole is modified to half bow-tie type for size reduction. A simplified balun is adopted for the impedance matching between the MS line and coplanar strip which feeds the dipole. The optimized dipole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact log-perio dic half-bow-tie dipole array antenna for an operation in a UWB band(3.1-10.6 GHz) is studied. The proposed antenna is miniaturized by using half-bow-tie shaped dipole elements instead of strip-type dipole elements, which are commonly used in a general log-periodic dipole array(LPDA) antenna, and by reducing the element spacing. The effects of the flare angle of the half-bow-tie elements and the spacing factor on input reflection coefficient and realized gain characteristics of the proposed log-periodic antenna are analyzed. The optimized antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experiment results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 2.95-11.31 GHz for a VSWR < 2, which assures the operation in the UWB band. In addition, the length and width of the proposed antenna are reduced to 32.1 % and 18.3 %, respectively, compared to the LPDA antenna.

  • In this paper, a triple-band printed dipole antenna using parasitic elements is proposed for the multiple wireless services. The proposed antenna is designed and experimentally analyzed at the bands of PCS, IMT-2000, and ISM services. To achieve triple frequency operation, the proposed antenna contains two parasitic elements, which act as additional resonators by coupling from the driving dipole antenna. From the measured results, the resonant frequencies of this antenna are 1.79 ㎓, 2.03 ㎓, and 2.41 ㎓ and the measured impedance bandwidths are 90 MHz(1760∼1850 MHz), 210 MHz(1,930∼2,130 MHz), and 30 MHz(2,400∼2,430 MHz) for VSWR<2. The measured antenna gains are 2.14 ㏈i, 0.9 ㏈i, and 0.5 ㏈i, respectively. Antenna parameters for trifle-band operation are investigated and several antenna characteristics are discussed.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of antenna factors of half-wave resonance dipole antennas above a ground plane. The current distributions on a horizontal and vertical dipole antennas were analyzed by the Galerkin's method of moments, and these solutions are used for calculating the horizontal and vertical antenna factors above the ground plane. It is shown that accurate antenna factors of the horizontal and vertical dipole above the ground plane are required of the radiated emission test.
