Synthesis and Lubricating Properties of Dimer Acid Derivatives Based on Used Vegetable Oil (폐식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체의 합성 및 경유의 윤활성능)

  • Vegetable oil-based dimer acid derivatives were prepared through a two-step procedure and their lubricating properties for diesel fuel were evaluated using high frequency reciprocating ring (HFRR) method to investigate wear scar diameter (WSD). Diels-Alder reaction at an elevated temperature transformed fatty acid to dimer acid, subsequently converted into dimer acid derivatives by esterification with methanol. It should be noted that the derivatives were dissolved well in diesel oil up to 1 wt%. After adding 120 ppm of the derivatives to pure diesel, the WSD significantly decreased to $300{\sim}05{\mu}m$, compared to $552{\mu}m$ of WSD in pure diesel. Dimer acid derivatives having carboxylic acid show superb in lubricating property which does not depend on the alkyl group in the derivatives.

Factors Affecting the Postoperative Outcome in Adult Cardiac Surgery with Cardiopulmonary Bypass (심폐바이패스를 이용한 성인 심장수술 시 환자회복에 영향을 미치는 인자)

  • We defined factors affecting the postoperative outcome in adult cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Thirty-two adult patients scheduled for elective cardiac surgery participated in this study. Levels of leukocyte, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), troponin-I (cTNI), interleukin-6 (IL-6), D-dimer and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) were significantly elevated, whereas platelet count declined in cardiac surgery with CPB. GOT and D-dimer levels at CPB-off each had a positive significant correlation significantly with 24 hrs-bleeding, total bleeding, mechanical ventilatory assist time, ICU stay time and length of hospitalization. BUN levels at CPB-off were directly related to total bleeding, mechanical ventilatory assist time, ICU stay time and length of hospitalization. Platelet count at CPB-off was inversely related to mechanical ventilatory assist time, ICU stay time and length of hospitalization. Creatinine concentration at CPB-off interrelated positively with mechanical ventilatory assist time and ICU stay time. NSE levels at CPB-off had a positive relationship with postoperative 24 hrs-bleeding. The length of hospitalization was prolonged proportionally to the elevation of cTNI levels in cardiac surgery. Aortic cross-clamping and total CPB times also related with increase of 24 hrs and total bleeding volumes and the length of hospitalization. IL-6 and ET-1 had no mutual relation with any postoperative outcome. These data suggest that GOT, BUN, creatinine, D-dimer and platelet levels are the most important factors affecting postoperative outcomes and patient's recovery in adult cardiac surgery with CPB.

Anionic Polymerization of Hexafluoropropylene Oxide Using Hexafluoropropylene Oligomer (헥사플루오르프로필렌 올리고머를 사용한 헥사플루오르프로필렌 옥사이드의 음이온 중합)

  • Anionic polymerization of hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) was investigated under various reaction conditions such as various hexafluoropropylene (HFP) oligomers composed of dimer and trimer, reaction temperatures, and feeding rates of hexafluoropropylene oxide monomer. HFP oligomer was synthesized from cesium fluoride (CsF) and HFP in tetraethyleneglycol dimethylether (TG). Under 5 g of CsF, 200 g of HFP, 10 g of TG, and reaction temperature $30^{\circ}C$, HFP dimer content in oligomer was relatively increased. HFPO oligomer with a high molecular weight ($M_w$ 3600) was synthesized in conditions of reaction temperature $0^{\circ}C$, HFP oligomer with 35.1% of dimer, and 1.85 g/min of HFPO feeding rate. Otherwise, chain transfer was increased under unoptimized reaction conditions. Consequently, it was found that reaction conditions impact chain propagation and chain transfer in the anionic polymerization of HFPO.

Effect of a Combinacon of Mental Activity with Experimental Subway Noise on Hematology (실험적 지하철 소음에서의 지적활동이 혈액생리에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study was sought to clarify whether the combination of mental activity with subway noise affects hematological variables. Fifty-six healthy volunteers participated in this experiment and underwent a stress task consisting of combination_of mental activity (mental arithmetic) with subway noise for 50 min and 60min of recovery after the end of the stress task. Venous blood samples were collected for measuring CBC, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), fibrinogen concentration, D-dimer and high sensitive C-reactive protein (H-CRP) levels before (baseline), 50min of stress task (S-50m), and 60 min of recovery (R-60m). Total leukocyte, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts significantly increased at R-60m compared with baselines. RBC count at S-50m was higher, while monocyte counts at S-50m and R-60m were lower than those of baselines. aPTTs shortened at S-50m and R-60m, but PT reduced at R-60m as compared with baselines. D-dimer and H-CRP levels at S-50m and R-60m were significantly higher than those of baselines. These findings imply that a combination of mental activity with subway noise nay cause leukocytosis, homo-concentration, shortened PT and aPTT, decreased ESR, and raised D-dimer and H-CRP levels, suggesting possible development of inflammation and prothrombogenic reaction attributable to a subway environment.

  • A semiempirical methods(PM3-CI-UHF, MM2) for the evaluation of ground and excited state electronic structures of electron-donating substituents are applied to 4, 5', 8-trimethylpsoralen(TMP) with TMP dimer. Three types of product have been proposed; (1) pyrone< >pyrone, (2) pyrone< >furan, (3) hetero dimer resulting from the C$_4$-cycloaddition between the furan end of one TMP moiety and the pyrone end of the other, with cis-syn configuration.

  • After reported that Styrene dimer and Styrene trimer was Endocrine Disrupter, if it was a fact or not, the sales of PSP noodle cup was rapidly decreased and social responsibilities of the substitution materials development was raised. Therefore we had studied many materials like paper, pulp mold, PP injection molding, PP lamination, etc as substitution materials and selected paper cup which was safe in many sides and easy to recycle. Mainly we had checked the shape, safety, stability and recycling possibility of paper cup and secured many data which could prove them.

  • The behavior of CaO and SiO2 in the reaction produced which produced in the early hydration of C3S was studied by XRD and thermal analyzer. Polymerization of hydrated siltcates was also studied by TMS method. TMS derivatives were separated by gaschromatography. Cao/SiO2 molar ratios of the produced CSH gel under the air atmosphere were higher than that in the CO2. Dimerization rate of hydrated silicates was very fast in the early hydration stage. Trimer began to appear later than dimer and its increasing rate was very low. The amount of dimer and trimer formed under the CO2 atmosphere was less than that in the air.
