간호사와 의사 간의 윤리적 딜레마 사례개발과 간호사의 의사결정 양상 (Case Development on Nurses' Ethical Dilemmas with Physicians' and Nurses' Decision Making)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a realistic clinical case and investigate nurses' decision-making about nurses' ethical dilemmas with physicians in the fields of nursing practice. Methods: Case development and a hypothetical case study were used. Participants were 52 nurses. Data were collected in 2012 and 2013 using an open-ended questionnaire and interviews and analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. Results: Various dilemma situations between nurses and physicians, such as violence, deathbed, medication prescription, and physicians' incapacity unfairness, were suggested. A clinical dilemma case about medication prescription was developed based on nurses' experiences. Nurses' responses to the developed case situation and responses were classified into five types. Various reasons were given for making the decisions and about 56% of the nurses decided to notify their supervisor without deleting nursing records. Conclusion: In this study, a realistic clinical dilemma case was developed, and nurses' ethical decision making was identified. These findings can be used in developing effective strategies for nurses to solve ethical dilemmas and to improve ethical decision-making abilities.

  • This study described a teacher's dilemma case caused by students' questions and an endeavor to resolve the dilemma. The teacher was faced with the dilemma of whether or not to give answers to the students' questions: Students' meaningful questions should be dealt in class. However, immediate answers for the questions would be difficult for the students to understand. In addition, offering text-based immediate answers would be criticized by a perspective on meaningful science education. Not only ignoring questions but also offering text-based answers could be the reason for a rupture between student and nature. And this made the teacher's dilemma. In this study, We try to address this dilemma and discuss why students should learn text with experience of nature in science class.

몬티홀 딜레마에 대한 학생들의 이해와 수업적용 (Students' Understanding and Application of Monty Hall Dilemma in Classroom)

  • Although Monty Hall dilemma is used in many areas including philosophy, economics, and psychology, it is used in the current mathematics textbooks only as a material for reading or one of probability questions. The present study tries to explore students' understanding of Monty Hall dilemma through a class case. In this study, a group of high-school students participated in group activities, in which they read an argument about Monty Hall dilemma, and tried to resolve it through small-group and whole-class discussions, and then studied the conditional probability. The analysis supports the studies in psychology that intuitive understandings on probability do not change easily, and that counter-intuitivity in Monty Hall dilemma induces confusion and offers a basis for discussions among students. Similar results are anticipated when other dilemmas on probability are used.

윤리적 딜레마 사례에 대한 간호사의 의사결정 분석 (Analysis of Decision-Making in Ethical Dilemma Cases among Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study was done to analyze the contents of nurses' ethical decision-making in four of hypothetical dilemma cases using the Cameron's Ethical Decision-Making Model of 'Value, Be, Do'. Method: Sixteen nurses who work at ICU at present or worked before, participated from April 10 to May 10 in 2002. The participants were interviewed three times each and for 40 minutes at once, with a structured questionnaire at their working places and locker rooms. The data was analyzed by a procedure of qualitative content analysis into three categories; what should I value, who should I be, what should I do. Result: 1) In consistency, most of subjects showed a unified voice in 'Value, Be, Do'. Exceptionally 8 subjects showed inconsistency such as 3 in active treatment to the incurable patients(case 1), 1 in treatment truth-telling to the terminally ill patients(case 2), 3 in conflict with uncooperative doctors(case 3), 3 in dying patients and euthanasia(case 4). Only one subject showed inconsistency in 3 dilemma cases. 2) Closing the interview procedure, the subjects evaluated Cameron's Model as it would help them build consistent value, carry right action, and cope to conflicts. Conclusion: On the basis of the results, it is recommended that nursing ethics should adopt the ethical decision-making model, and be applied to the curriculum of nursing colleges and continuing education program for clinical nurses.

과학 실험 실습 교육에서 초등 교사가 느끼는 딜레마 (Elementary Teachers' Dilemmas of Teaching Science Practical Work)

  • In their teaching practice, teachers encounter multi-dimensions of pedagogical challenges. The recognition and reflection on these challenges is crucial to advance our science teaching. This study looked into science teachers' dilemmas of their teaching practical work through their written cases. Dilemma cases are teachers' narratives organized around important events of teaching and learning. It can reveal teachers' situated cognition and be used as lens to investigate complex realities of science teaching and learning. 26 pre- and in-service elementary teachers' dilemma cases of science practical work were carefully collected and analysed to interpret what constitute tensions in elementary science practical works. They were largely grouped into three: Curriculum and Institutional Relevance, Students Relevance, Nature of School Experiments Relevance and divided into 7 subheadings: 'Authority of Curriculum(textbook)', 'Disappointment at external support', 'Students' interests and safety', 'Students' unscientific and inert attitude', 'Difficulty of showing expected results', 'Generalization through experiment', 'Knowledge acquisition and authentic inquiry'. Each dilemma was interpreted in terms of the tensions which constitute contradictory beliefs, values, expectation and realities. These dilemmas enabled to expose actual conditions of elementary science practical work and teachers' challenges otherwise can not be seen easily. Science teacher educators also can get some implications to overcome the gap between theory and practice in their teacher education.

교차로 신호기 위치 조정과 딜레마존 특성 분석 (Analysis on Intersection Traffic Signal Locations Change and Characteristics of Dilemma Zone)

  • 본 연구는 신호기 위치 조정이 도시지역의 교차로 신호등에 접근하는 운전자들의 운전행태에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 딜레마 존의 특성을 분석하였다. 접근속도의 분석은 신호등의 위치 조정이 이루어진 3개 지점에서 측정된 사전-사후 비교를 통해 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서는 황색신호시 정지차량의 경우 지점속도를 낮춰, 딜레마존 시작점을 앞당김으로써 딜레마존의 크기를 작게 하는 반면에 통과차량의 경우 교차로에 근접하여 지점속도를 높임으로써 딜레마존 끝점을 뒤로 이동시키게 됨을 발견하였다. 결국 신호기 위치조정은 딜레마존의 크기를 줄임으로써 교차로 안전성을 증진하는 데 기여한다고 볼 수 있다. 동일한 속도로 진입한 차량군의 운행특성을 볼 때, 감속을 하기 위한 감속도가 반영되어 지점별 속도가 상당히 크게 변화했는데 이것은 딜레마존에서 사용되는 접근속도의 개념에 대한 보다 엄밀한 규정이 필요하며, 일반적으로 사용되는 접근속도의 개념이 접근구간속도임을 고려할 때 딜레마존의 계산식은 접근속도 보다 지점속도를 사용하는 것이 더 정확할 수 있음을 보여준다.

Exploring the Dilemma and Improvement Strategies for the Integrated Management of Extracurricular Education Programs at Duksung Women's University

  • This study was conducted with the purpose of exploring the dilemma and improvement strategies for the integrated management of extracurricular education programs at Duksung Women's University. The research method was finally composed of a procedure with a meeting of experts based on the procedure of collecting and analyzing the previous research literature. As for the contents of the study, the dilemma of the integrated management of the extracurricular education program at Duksung Women's University was presented first. Examples of dilemmas include difficulties in organizing and operating programs from the perspective of a roadmap customized for each grade level, difficulties in establishing a foundation for balanced mapping of core competencies and cultivating programs, difficulties in managing the performance of regular program monitoring and feedback improvement, and activating the linkage system between subjects and extracurricular education programs difficulties and difficulties in establishing a support system for the operation of the extracurricular education integrated management system were reflected. In addition, a strategy to complement and improve this dilemma was presented in a linkage. As a result of the study, the integrated management dilemma of Duksung Women's University's extracurricular education programs needs to be resolved in the long term through formal infrastructure such as external expert advice and expert exchange, and the development and use of related manuals should be considered aspects were analyzed. In addition, the content of this study was analyzed not only in the educational case of Duksung Women's University, but also in that it deals with cases that can be usefully referenced in most universities that develop and operate extracurricular education programs. Finally, this study presents an evidence-based practices that can be referenced in promoting the integrated management of extracurricular education programs in university sites, and the position and identity of extracurricular education throughout the university curriculum. It is judged that the significance and expected effect of the study can be obtained in that it provides an opportunity to improve from the management point of view.

A Case Study of an Activity Based Mathematical Education: A Kernel Density Estimation to Solve a Dilemma for a Missile Simulation

  • While the statistical concept 'order statistics' has a great number of applications in our society ranging from industry to military analysis, it is not necessarily an easy concept to understand for many people. Adding some interesting simulation activities of this concept to the probability or statistics curriculum, however, can enhance the learning curve greatly. A hands-on and a graphic calculator based activities of a missile simulation were introduced by Kim(2003) in the context of order statistics. This article revisits the two activities in his paper and point out a dilemma that occurs from the violation of an assumption on two deviation parameters associated with the missile simulation. A third activity is introduced to resolve the dilemma in the terms of a kernel density estimation which is a nonparametric approach.

드론을 이용한 교차로 딜레마구간 안전개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dilemma Zone Safety Improvement using Drone Videos)

  • 본 연구는 최근 활용도가 주목받고 있는 드론을 활용하면 기존 현장조사장비로는 불가능했던 수준의 정밀한 영상자료 수집이 가능하다는 점에 착안하여 진행된 "드론활용 사례연구"의 하나로서, 접근로에서 황색신호 점등시 운전자의 의사결정 패턴을 분석하기 위해 드론 촬영 영상을 활용하였다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 접근로상의 딜레마구간을 파악하고, 황색신호점등 시 실제 운전자들이 정지 혹은 통과하는 의사결정 기준선을 파악하고, 이를 적정 황색신호 셋팅값에 의한 기준선과 비교하여 차이가 있는 구간을 "위험통과구간"으로 정의하고자 하였다. 또한, 이를 개선하기 위한 방법으로 황색시간 재설정 및 특정한 가이드 노면표시를 도입하여 운전자들이 안전하게 정지 혹은 통과 결정을 할 수 있도록 돕는 방안을 제안하였다.

Can an Education Program alter Students' Perceptions of the Causes of and Solutions to Climate Change? - A Case in South Korea

  • This study investigated whether an educational program could alter students' perceptions of the causes of and solutions to climate change. On October 23, 2020, a 3-hour climate change educational program was provided to 400 high school students in Suncheon City, (Jeonnam Province, South Korea). According to the program, climate change represents a social dilemma, or tragedy of the commons; it also asserts that collective action aimed at strengthening government policy is the optimal solution to climate change, and concludes that motivated citizens should convey their opinions directly to the government through political action. After the program, the students made and shared placards calling for policy-based responses to climate change. Questionnaires completed by the students before and after the program revealed that their perceptions of the causes of and solutions to climate change changed significantly. This case study indicates that education programs have the potential to alter students' perspectives and promote actions aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change.
