Two kinds of new aliphatic diols were synthesized by the ring-opening reaction of lactide and glycolide with 1,4-butanediol, a difunctional initiator, in the presence of stannous octoate. The resulting aliphatic diols were melt-polymerized with D-tartaric acid at 150 ℃ to produce new crosslinkable polyesters. They were reacted with hexamethylene diisocyanate in THF at 65 ℃ in a teflon mold for 24 h to prepare sequentially ordered crosslinked polyesters (BD/LT/GL/D-tartarate). Degradation of the prepared yellow crosslinked films was carried out in a buffer solution in order to examine the effect of time, pH, temperature and crosslinking degree on their degradation rate and mechanism. The rate of degradation increased with an increase in pH and temperature, but it decreased with increasing degree of crosslinkage incorporated into the crosslinked polyesters. We also found that the crosslinked polymers were converted into the acidic compounds such as lactic, glycolic, and D-tartaric acids during the degradation.
Shape memory materials are widely used in high-tech industries. Although shape memory polymers have been developed, they have a disadvantage, only unidirectional resilience. Shape memory polymers with bi-directional recovery resilience have been actively studied. In this study, a bidirectional shape memory polyurethane was synthesized using poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) diol, methylene dicyclohexyl diisocyanate, and hydroxyethyl acrylate. The first physical curing occurred between hard segments and hydrogen bondings when the solution was dried. The second curing in acrylate groups was performed by UV exposure. A degree of curing was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The shape memory properties of 2 step-cured polyurethanes were investigated as a function of UV curing time.

To prepare polyurethane coatings for top coatings of automobiles, acrylic resins containing 75% of solids were synthesized by a radical polymerization. The viscosity of the acrylic resins was increased with increasing OH values. Crosslinked acrylic-urethane clear coatings were obtained by curing reaction between the synthesized acrylic resins and hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI) trimer(Desmodur N-3600). The physical properties from the following studies were carried out : viscosity(Zahn cup #2), adhesion, pensil hardness, and 60° specular gloss. Various properties of the acrylic-urethane clear coatings as top coatings of mobile coat were evaluated on the coating specimens. Adhesion property to a substrate, 60° specular gloss, and pencil hardness of prepared paint showed quite good properties.

Undenatured castor oil and trimethylolpropane (TMP) were used to obtain bio-based water-based polyurethane. Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) was incorporated into the formulation to obtain a transparent film, and ethylenediamine (EDA) was used for chain extension. In order to measure the change in physical properties according to the contents of castor oil and TMP, each tensile strength, elongation, and abrasion resistance test was conducted. As the contents of castor oil and TMP increased, the tensile strength increased, the elongation decreased, and the surface hardened strongly as the respective contents increased.

Polyurethane foams (PUFs) were prepared from polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI), seven polyols with different functionalities and OH values, silicone surfactant, two catalysts, and three blowing agents. Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC-11), hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC-141b) and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC-365mfc) were used as blowing agents. The effect of gelling and blowing catalysts on basic properties and cell structure of PUF with HCFC-141b was investigated. The cell size of the PUF decreased with an increase in the amount of catalyst from 0 to 2 pph (parts per hundred polyol). In the case of gelling type catalyst, the compressive strength increased from 11.9 to $12.66kg_f/cm^2$ with an increase in the amount catalyst from 0 to 2 pph but the density did not change significantly. The gelling time, density, and compressive strength of the PUF with three different blowing agents were measured. There was no detectable change in their properties. However, the cell structure of PUF with HCFC-141b was not uniform as in the other systems.
In this study, to develop the adhesives with improved waterproof properties for display application, UV-curable urethane acrylate oligomers containing a fluorine moiety were synthesized from hydrogenated polybutadiene diol (HLBH-P2000), perfluoropolyether diol (HTPFPE), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). The properties which were related waterproof performance such as contact angle, surface energy and water vapor transmission ratio (WVTR) of synthesized fluorine induced urethane acrylate oligomers were measured. As the HTPFPE content increased, the contact angle also increased from 97.9 degree to 104.4 degree. The surface energy and WVTR decreased as the HTPFPE content increased. The adhesion strength also decreased according to the HTPFPE content increased, and the adhesion strength reduction had greatly increased as the HTPFPE content increased. The findings of this study will be beneficial for developing waterproofing adhesives in the field of display which has recently been a waterproof issue.
The aim of this study is to enhance the flame retardancy by the synergism effect of chlorine and phosphorus groups. The flame-retardant polyurethane coatings containing chlorine and phosphorus compounds were synthesized. After synthesizing the intermediate products of tetramethylene bis (orthophosphate) (TMBO) and neohexanediol trichlorobenzoate (TBA-adduct), the condensation polymerization was performed with four different monomers of two intermediates, 1,4-butanediol, and adipic acid to obtain four-component copolymer(TTBA). The two-component flame-retardant polyurethane coatings (TTBA-10C/HDI-trimer=TTHD-10C, TTBA-20C/HDI-trimer=TTHD-20C, TTBA-30C/HDI trimer=TTHD-30C) were obtained by curing reaction at room temperature with the synthesized TTBAs and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-trimer as a curing agent. The obtained TTHDs were made into coating samples and used as test samples for various physical properties. The physical properties of the flame-retardant coatings containing chlorine and phosphorus groups were generally inferior to those containing only phosphorus group. Flame retardancy was tested by vortical and horizontal combustion method, and $45^{\circ}$ Meckel burner method. Since the retardancy of flame-retardant coatings containing chlorine and phosphorus groups was better than that containing only phosphorus group, it could be concluded that the retardancy by the synergism effect of chlorine and phosphorus groups exhibited.

Poly lactic acid(PLA) and poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate(PBAT) film was prepared using a twin extruder. PLA (25%) and PBAT (75%) were mixed with various ratio of chain extenders, such as $Joncryl^{(R)}$ and hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI) to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of produced bio composite films. Tensile strengths of films were steadily increased with increasing ratio of chain extender. The tensile strength of control films was about 25 MPa, and the tensile strength of films with combined chain extenders was above 40 MPa. The films with $Joncryl^{(R)}$ resulted in improved tensile strength, while the film with HDI alone showed improved percent elongation at break. By adding chain extenders into PLA/PBAT resin, the cold crystallization temperature (Tcc) and decomposition temperature (Td) of the produced bio composite films increased. It revealed that the addition of two types of chain extenders was efficient way to get PLA/PBAT film with improved strength and elongation.

Two types of oleophilic acrylic prepolymers were prepared by the solution copolymerization of either ethyl acrylate (EA) or lauryl acrylate (LA) with hydroxy ethyl acrylate (HEA). For the formation of oil-absorbent materials, a mixed solution of the prepolymer and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as a cross-linker in toluene was applied to polypropylene knit velvet fabric through the conventional pad-dry-cure procedure. The gel fraction of the crosslinked resin, EA-HEA-HDI, increased with increasing feed ratio of HEA to total acrylate or HDI concentration. The oil absorbancy and retention ratio of the prepared materials were compared according to the add-on ratio of resin to fabric, and were assessed with n-decane, toluene, soybean oil, lubricant and bunker C oil as test oils. The optimal oil absorbancy of the materials were observed at around 6% of the add-on ratio for all these oils except for soybean oil. On the other hand, the oil retention ratio increased as the add-on ratio increased. Futhermore, heavier and more viscous oil generally showed higher oil retention ratios. In addition, the oil absorbancy of the materials treated with LA-HEA-HDI resin was higher than that treated with EA-HEA-HDI resin, which showed that the acrylic resins are more absorptive with increasing length of their side alkyl chain.
