  • Fingerprints of 114 Australian Aboriginal males and 90 females have been analyzed. Whorls are more frequent in males (56.7%) than in females (51.2%) and loops are less frequent in males (42.6%) than in females (47.0%). The index of pattern intensity displays a higher value in males (15.60) than in females (14.94). The bimanual differences both in males and females ave not statistically significant for the occurrence of patterns on the digits of the right and left hands. Also the difference between both sexes for the occurrence of patterns is not statistically significant. Incidences of actual symmetry on homologous digits represented 74.0% in males and 77.3% in females. The mean total ridge counts showed 156.65 $\pm$43.32 (M$\pmSD) in males and 148.6943.64 (M$\pmSD) in females, respectively. Conclusively, this study represents that the Australian Aborigines conform closely to the Polynesians in finger dermatoglyphics.

  • Fingerprints of 104 New Zealand Maori males and 98 females have been analyzed. Whorls are more abundant in females (55.0%) than in males(47.3%). The index of pattern intensity reveals a higher va1ue in females(15.39) than in males (14.52). The bimanual differences both in males and females are not statistically significant for the occurrence of pattern on the digits of the right and left hands. The difference between the sexes in occurrence of patterns is not statistically significant. Incidences of actual symmetry on the homologous digits represented a mean of 78.8% in all subjects. The mean total ridge counts showed 161.7 in females and 159.6 in males, respectively. Thus, the Maori show greater affinities with the Mongoloids in quantitative dermatoglyphics.

  • This paper is a on the neural network to recognize the phonemes, the weight initialization to reduce learning speed, and LR parser for continuous speech recognition. The neural network spots the phonemes in continuous speech and LR parser parses the output of neural network. The whole phonemes recognized in neural network are divided into several groups which are grouped by the similarity of phonemes, and then each group consists of neural network. Each group of neural network to recognize the phonemes consisits of that recognize the phonemes of their own group and VGNN(Verify Group Neural Network) which judges whether the inputs are their own group or not. The weights of neural network are not initialized with random values but initialized from learning data to reduce learning speed. The LR parsing method applied to this paper is not a method which traces a unique path, but one which traces several possible paths because the output of neural network is not accurate. The parser processes the continuous speech frame by frame as accumulating the output of neural network through several possible paths. If this accumulated path-value drops below the threshold value, this path is deleted in possible parsing paths. This paper applies the continuous speech recognition system to the threshold value, this path is deleted in possible parsing paths. This paper applies the continuous speech recognition system to the continuous Korea digits recognition. The recognition rate of isolated digits is 97% in speaker dependent, and 75% in speaker dependent. The recognition rate of continuous digits is 74% in spaker dependent.

  • From 1994-2001, 25 mutilated digits were reconstructed with immediate toe-to-hand transfer in acute hand injury in 21 patients. There were 15 cases of great toe-to-hand transfer(partial great toe transfer 8 cases, modified wrap-around procedure 2 cases, and trimmed great toe transfer 2 cases) for thumb reconstruction, 2 cases of second toe transfer for index reconstruction, and 4 cases of simultaneous two toe-to-hand transfer(great toe & second toe transfer 1 case, bilateral second-toe transfer 2 cases, combined second & third toe transfer 1 case) for reconstruction of multiple digit amputations. Two cases of emergency exploration(2/25, 8%) were successfully salvaged. The incidence of emergency exploration and postoperative infection was not significantly different from that of the elective toe-to-hand transfer cases. Duration of industrial insurance coverage was 225 days, which is much shorter than that of elective cases. Among 43% of patients maintained their original job even after injury and immediate toe-to-hand transfer. The subjective satisfaction self- assessment scores of aesthetic appearance and function on the new reconstructed thumb were 80 and 88 in average, respectively, over a total score of 100. These were higher than those of reconstruction of other digits, but lower than those of elective reconstruction. The donor site after harvest of the great toe was mostly unsatisfied in a view of appearance. Immediate toe-to-hand transfer provides many advantages over elective procedure in acute hand injuries such as single stage reconstruction, shortened convalescent period, early return to work and efficient socio-economic factor. Furthermore because there were no significant differences in success rate, frequency of complications or ultimate functional result, immediate toe-to-hand transfer is a safe and reliable procedure in case of limited indications for acute digits loss.

  • Background Fingertip injuries are the most common type of traumatic injury treated at emergency departments and require prompt and adequate interventions for favorable wound survival outcomes. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy is well known for its many positive effects on wound healing. We hypothesized that treatment with HBO2 would improve the graft survival outcomes of amputated fingertip injuries treated with composite grafts. Methods This retrospective observational study included fingertip amputations that were treated between January 2013 and December 2017. A conventional group and an HBO2 therapy group were statistically compared to evaluate the effect of HBO2 treatment. Graft survival was categorized as either success or failure. Results Among 55 cases (digits), 34 digits were conventionally treated, while 21 digits were treated with HBO2. No statistically significant differences were observed between the groups with regard to general characteristics. Among patients with guillotine-type injuries, the composite graft success rate was statistically significantly higher in the group that received HBO2 therapy than in the conventional group (P=0.0337). Overall, the HBO2 group also demonstrated a statistically significantly shorter healing time than the conventional group (P=0.0075). As such, HBO2 treatment facilitates composite graft survival in cases of fingertip injury. Conclusions HBO2 treatment was associated with an increased composite graft survival rate in guillotine-type fingertip injuries and reduced the time required for grafts to heal.

  • The basic direction of mathematical education for the 21st century is focused on helping student to understand mathematics and developing their problem solving abilities, mathematical disposition and mathematical thinking. Elementary mathematics teachers should help students make sense of mathematics, confident of their ability, and make learning environment comfortable for students to participate in. Through making activities 1 to 100 with digits 1,9,9,6, students improved the interest and preference of students about mathematics. This game is useful to foster students' mathematical thinking(concepts of exponential number expression, roots concept(${\sqrt}$), gauss function([])) and mathematical disposition. If students are helped to be interested in mathematics through mathematical games, they regard mathematics as interesting and challengeable subject to let themselves think many ways.

  • This paper describes the optimization of a language model and an acoustic model to improve speech recognition using Korean unit digits. Since the model is composed of a finite state network (FSN) with a disyllable, recognition errors of the language model were reduced by analyzing the grammatical features of Korean unit digits. Acoustic models utilize a demisyllable pair to decrease recognition errors caused by inaccurate division of a phone or monosyllable due to short pronunciation time and articulation. We have used the K-means clustering algorithm with the transformed successive state splitting in the feature level for the efficient modelling of feature of the recognition unit. As a result of experiments, 10.5% recognition rate is raised in the case of the proposed language model. The demi-syllable fair with an acoustic model increased 12.5% recognition rate and 1.5% recognition rate is improved in transformed successive state splitting.
