  • In this paper, the development of a fiber optic network for an integrated digital protection relay system is described. The structure of the developed network is determined to loosen the optic requirements and to have good extensibility while providing sufficient functions for protection and control for substations. The network has a hierarchical structure with two levels. The upper level handles data for monitoring and control of the system with star topology. The lower level manages the real time data for bus protection with one-to-one connections. Communication flows of each level are described. The HDLC is employed as the network protocol.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a two-way automatic communication system using a mobile instant messenger that can provide a customized service through a real-time two-way communication using a mobile instant messaging service. Two-way automatic communication system using a mobile instant messenger can improve the quality and quantity of information in real-time update of the information through the feedback. In addition, since it is communicated by using a mobile Instant Messanger in 1:1 there is no concerns that is recognized as spam, as well as it is possible to provide customized information for each user. Two-way automatic communication system using a mobile instant messanger shows the difference of the speed according to the data input time in typing by hands in result of comparing the time to input a date and the processing speed to search a data. Therefore in category treatment, command processing and natural language processing, Category treatment way is the most excellent in aspect of data processing speed, otherwise in aspect of the total speed to combine the data input time and the processing time, the command processing way is the best method.

  • In this paper, concerning the various advertising and policy advertising of the election with respect to whether to deliver a message to a large number of people, we design and implement an automative system what enables sending the text messages directly from the server to the client and also fast feedback is enabled by utilizing a number of operational programs to connect to the server. Therefore, we design and implement the automative communication system which enables delivering message to each user mobile terminal from a plurality of relay mobile terminals by utilizing the mobile instant messenger, not to deliver a message from the server to the mobile instant messenger user directly. In result of comparative analysis on the number of times of data transmission, this automative communication system utilizing mobile instant messenger shows the result that it enables transmitting five times per minute as it can copy and paste in the automation system regardless of the size of the data loading, otherwise in case of transmitting manually it show the result that the number of times of data transmission is reduced if the size of the data is larger.

  • In this paper, the IED(Intelligent Electronic Devices) with the consideration of harmonic problems is discussed, With significant development of power electronics technology, the proliferation of a nonlinear load has more deteriorated power quality, As continuous harmonic current makes for a shortening lifetime, overheat and abnormal operation, it should be considered to improve these problems. However, the conventional digital protective relay which eliminates harmonic elements with orthogonal filter has a defect on actually implementation. The prototype IED is constructed with Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C32) and Complex Programmable Logic Device. According to the experiment and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed system has good performance of measuring harmonic factors and protecting electrical equipment.

  • Protective relays provide important features to electrical power systems for protecting against faults and consequent short circuits. This research presents a novel VLSI design of the digital protective relay, which overcomes today's uP/DSP-based relays. This design features good cancellation of DC/k-th harmonic components, noticeable not performance and flexible Protection behavior in the minimized core area The proposed design was successfully implemented by a FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) device and can concurrently process over 16KSPS at less $0.03[\%]$ error rate.

  • During the period from may to June 2000, a questionnaire study was carried out on 65 male radiological technologist who had been engaged at VDT work, to find out correlation their symptoms to VDT syndrome factors, work environment and condition. The results were as follows : 1. The mean age was 41.0 years, the mean relay working time was 3.75 hours and the mean duration of using computer monitor was 5.9 years, the satisfactory of working was 44.6% the others 55.4%, among these, 3.1% had symptoms before using the VDT and the others had not. 2. The prevalence of symptoms was the highest on wholebody tired, followed by eye, neck, low back, in decreased order and the lowest was fatique of wrist. 3. There was not significant correlation of symptoms to age, but significant to working time, working duration. 4. There was not significant correlation of symptoms to satisfactory. 5. Working desk, monitor, illuminations, temperature, and noise were significantly related to symptoms. 6. There was significant relation of symptoms to CT, MRI workers.

  • The chargers for DC power supply of the contro1lers, which have been installed in the relay rooms in 345/154kV substations of KEPCO, lag in both aspects of technique and performance. Moreover, as they are SCR-based, they dont meet the performance requirements of todays digital and automated controllers. Now two controllers are running in pair and one of those is for reservation. There are lots of troubles because the patrol engineering team has to replace them manually whenever they are out of order. So it is expected to bring convenience if the charger replacement is automated. Also, the existing chargers take much space, weight and cost - which have increased the need of development to make them smaller, less expensive, and have high quality. We will develop a charger system which has one fifth of the weight of the existing system by double-integrating the volume. The new system will be ready for a future full unmanned system with integrated pores for remote control, state-of-the-art digital features, and more than 90% efficiency/power factor against 80% efficiency/power factor of the existing system.

  • 406MHz and INMARSAT-E EPIRB facility transmits the distress alerts by the relay of the polar-satellites and INTELSAT, but may cause the probability of delayed transmission because of the orbital period and not compliance with the implementation of GMDSS rules for small ships in A1 area.. Digital Selective Calling forms a critical part of the terrestrial elements of the GMDSS system and ensures the reliability and the efficiency in the system. In this paper, we suggests that new DSC EPIRB in the VHF band to overcome this defect for small ships in A1 area, and analyze the ITU-R recommendations and technical characteristics, design and implement the algorithm of calling sequences, frequency synthesizer for the RF signal and FSK moulation signals.

  • Moving image sharing technology has developed various servers and programs for personal broadcasting. In this paper, we propose the method of transmitting the multiple moving image, including the output channel of external streaming server. It also implements and tests multiple real-time broadcast channel automatic transmission systems that assign multiple output channels to automatic output channels. As a result of the experiment, it is easy to allocate moving image to broadcast channels that are output through the external streaming server's output channels regardless of the size of the streaming server, enabling the management of efficient output channels at the time of transmission of multiple moving image. The moving image can be provided through streaming method regardless of the type of moving image from the moving image provider terminal, and the moving image transmission can be controlled in various ways, including adding and changing channels for which the moving image is sent, and sending delayed to the moving image.

  • This paper describes the improvement method of distance relaying algorithm for the underground transmission cables. Distance relaying algorithms have been mainly developing to protect the overhead transmission lines than the underground cables. If the cable systems are directly protected using distance relaying algorithm developed for overhead line without any improvement, there will be really occurred many misoperation in cable systems, because the cable systems consist of the conductor, the sheath, several grounding method, cable cover protection units(CCPUs), and grounding wire. Accordingly, the complicated phenomena are occurred, if there is a fault in cable systems. Therefore, to develope a correct distance relaying algorithm, such cable characteristics should be taken into account. This paper presents the process to improve distance relaying algorithm which is now used. REal cable system was selected to establish modeling in EMTP and ATP Draw. It was discovered through the detailed simulation during the fault that the large error existed between impedance measured at the relay point and real impedance is due to the resistance of grounding wire in each grounding method. And also compensation factor obtained by the simulation is proposed in this paper. It is proved that the factor proposed can fairly improve the accuracy of impedance at the relay point. It is evaluated that the protective ability will be really much improved, if the algorithm proposed in this paper is applied for cable systems of utility.
