This study presents methodology and tools for remote measurement of the orientation of the rock parting surfaces. Two close circuit video camera capture the pictures of a rock excavation surface while a laser beam scans the surface. Positions of the laser beams in the two digital images are recognized by image processing. Using the stereoscopic concept, three dimensional coordinations of the rock surface and the orientation of the rock parting planes are calculated. Point, cross and line type laser beams are tested for better image processing results and measurement accuracy of the coordinates. According to a simple accuracy test, cross beam show better results than the point beam. However, line beam show more promising results for the measurement of the rock parting surfaces.
We describe a backprojection filtering method for limited angle tomography. In order to reduce blur artifacts originated from the out-of-planes and control high-frequency noise, we employed two band-limited window functions, and which were realized by Hann filters in this study. Based on the experimentally measured data, the performance of the developed method is demonstrated by comparing with the conventional shift-and-add and filtered backprojection methods. Application of the developed method to the dental imaging has a potential to be used for the preoperative evaluation of the jaw for dental implants with much reduced patient dose instead of the conventional dental computed tomography.
We study emotion regulation in a distant CABLe (Collaborative Argumentation Based-Learning) setting at university. We analyze how students achieve the group task of synthesizing the literature on a topic through scientific argumentation on the institutional Moodle's forum. Distinguishing anticipatory from reactive emotional regulation shows how essential it is to establish and maintain a constructive working climate in order to make the best out of disagreement both on social and cognitive planes. We operationalize the analysis of anticipatory emotional regulation through an analytical grid applied to the data of two groups of students facing similar disagreement. Thanks to sharp anticipatory regulation, group 1 solved the conflict both on the social and the cognitive plane, while group 2 had to call out for external regulation by the teacher, stuck in a cyclically resurfacing dispute. While the institutional digital environment did afford anticipatory emotional regulation, reactive emotional regulation rather occurred through complementary informal and synchronous communication tools. Based on these qualitative case studies, we draw recommendations for fostering distant CABLe at university.

A real time interactive controller (spectrometer) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system has been developed using high speed digital signal processors (DSP). The controller generates radio frequency (rf) waveforms and audio frequency gradient waveforms and controls multiple receivers for data acquisition. By employing DSPs having high computational power (e.g., TMS320C670l) real time generation of complicated gradient waveforms and interactive control of selection planes are possible, which are important features in real-time imaging of moving organs, e.g., cardiac imaging. The spectrometer was successfully implemented at a 1.5 Tesla whole body MRI system for clinical application. Performance of the spectrometer is verified by various experiments including high- speed imaging such as fast spin echo (FSE) and echo planar imaging (EPI). These high-speed imaging techniques reduce measurement time, however, usually intensify artifact if there is any systematic phase error or jitter in the synchronization between the transmitter, receiver, and gradients.

To generate on-board digital tomosynthesis (DTS) for three-dimensionalimage-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) as an alternative to conventional portal imaging or on-board cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), two clinical cases (liver and bladder) were selected to illustrate the capabilities of on-board DTS for IGRT. DTS images were generated from subsets of CBCT projection data (45, 162 projections) using half-fan mode scanning with a Feldkamp-type reconstruction algorithm. Digital tomosynthesis slices appeared similar to coincident CBCT planes and yielded substantially more anatomic information. Improved bony and soft-tissue visibility in DTS images is likely to improve target localization compared with radiographic verification techniques and might allow for daily localization of a soft-tissue target. Digital tomosynthesis might allow targeting of the treatment volume on the basis of daily localization.

With the trend towards high propulsive level, increasing ship's dimensions and heavier shaft systems supported by the hull structure of relatively stiffness in modern ships, transverse vibrations of propulsion shaft system have become one of the problems that should be predicted in the early design stage. Regarding transverse vibrations, coupling terms such as oilfilm, gyroscope and hydrodynamic effect of the propeller exist between the vertical and horizontal vibration, furthermore for the shaft system with strut and bossing its physical properties incorporated with hull structure must be considered. In order to predict the transverse vibratory condition of the propulsion shaft and take some appropriate countermeasures, it is necessary to make a fairly strict estimation of the vibratory behaviours of it. In this paper, theoretical approach using the finite element method is investigated to calculate natural frequencies and vibration modes for coupled free transverse vibrations of shaft system in two planes. Based on the method investigated a digital computer program is developed and is applied to calculate the above-mentioned vibrations of an experimental model shaft system. The results of the calculation are compared with those of the experimental measurements and they show an acceptable agreement.
Scoliosis can be biomechanically described as a three dimensional deformity of the spine, with deviations from the physiologic curves in the sagittal and frontal planes, usually combined with intervertebral rotation. Various factors are suspected such as genetic defects, uneven growth of the vertebrae, hormonal effects, abnormal muscular activity, postural problems, or a mix of some of these elements, but its initial cause is known in only 15-20% cases. The screening test for diagnosing scoliosis is called the Adams Forward Bend Test. During the experiment, the subjects were asked to bend over, with arms dangling, until a curve could be observed. The Scoliometer was placed on the back of the subjects and used to measure the difference between the left and right apex of the curve in the thoracic, thoracolumbar and lumbar area. Then, the subjects were asked to perform Maximum Voluntary Contractions (MVCs) using the digital back muscle dynamometer in three different postures: (1) 0o (sagittally symmetric); (2) 30o from the mid-sagittal plane (clockwise); and (3) 30o from the mid-sagittal plane (counterclockwise). In addition to the experimental data, subject-dependent variables including Body Mass Index (BMI), percentage of body fat and muscle mass of left/right arms and legs were employed to reveal the cause of difference among three MVC conditions. All those variables were tested using statistical methods.
The imaging areas of currently available optical detectors are relatively small to cope with large image areas such as telescope focal Planes. One Possibility to obtain large detection areas is to assemble mosaics of Charge Coupled Devices(CCDs) and drive them simultaneously. Parallel driving of many CCDs together rules out the possibility of individual tuning; however such optimisation is very important when the ultimate low light level performance is required particularly for new devices. In this work, a new concept has been developed for an entirely novel approach where the drive waveforms are multiplexed and interleaved. This simultaneously reduces the number of leadout connections and permits individual optimisation efficiently. The controller has been designed to include one electronic of component produced by CAD software where most of the digital circuits are integrated to minimise the component count and improve the efficiency of the system greatly. The software has an open architecture to permit convenient modificationl by the user to fit their specific purposes. The desire of controller allows great flexibility of system parameters by the softwa re, specifically for the compatibility to deal with any number of mixed CCDs and in any format within the practical limit. The system has been integrated to test the performance and the result is discussed for readout noise, system linearity and cross-talk between the CCDs. The system developed in this work can be applicable not only for astro nomical observation with a telescope but also in other related fields for low light level detection systems such as spectroscopic application, remote sensing and X-ray detecti13n systems with large sensing areas and high resolution.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of Spine-Pelvis Monitor(SPM) that was developed to measure 3-dimensional motion of spine and pelvis using tilt sensor and gyro sensor. Background: The main cause of low back pain is very much associated with the task using the low back and pelvis, but no measurement technique can quantify the both spine and pelvis. Method: For testing the SPM, 125 angles from three anatomical planes were measured three times in order to evaluate the accuracy and reliability. The accuracy of SPM in measuring dynamic motion was evaluated using digital motion analysis system. The motion pattern captured by two measuring methods was compared with each other. In result, the percentage error and Cronbach coefficient alpha were calculated to evaluate the accuracy and reliability. Results: The percentage error was 0.35% in flexion-extension on sagittal plane, 0.43% in lateral bending on coronal plane, and 0.40% in twisting on transverse plane. The Cronbach coefficient alpha was 1.00, 0.99 and 0.99 in sagittal, coronal and transvers plane, respectively. Conclusion: The SPM showed less than 1% error for static measurement, and showed reasonably similar pattern with the digital motion system. Application: The results of this study showed that the SPM can be the measuring method of spine pelvis motion that enhances the kinematic analysis of low back dynamics.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mutual relations by measuring SNR from T2 weighted image and ADC values on the basis of the stiffness values from liver tissues. This study was conducted that total 37 people(23 of males and 11 of females) were taken the liver MRI examination and average age was $54.5{\pm}12.7$ years old. The equipment was MAGNETOM Skyra 3.0T (SIEMENS, Erlangen, Germany) and 32 channel body-array coil. The examination were conducted with HASTE T2 weighted image by axial plane, Spin-echo EPI (echo planner image) DWI (b-value = 800) and Magnetic resonance elastography. The ROIs (region of interest: 200-300 $mm^2$) were established on the basis of the first axial stiffness image corresponded 95% confidence interval from axial stiffness image and then were measured values. After drawing the grid lines, signals were measured SNR from T2 weighted image and ADC values on the same locations that were analysed other 3 planes respectively. The results were showed correlation (0.057) that were increased to SNR from T2 weighted image by increasing stiffness value that no significant difference statistically p = 0.003. Other results were showed correlations (-0.301) that were decreased to ADC values by increasing stiffness values that no significant difference statistically p = 0.088. In the 3.0T equipment, the results may be error in much the same fashion as the 1.5T from ADC values by evaluation of fibrosis stage. However, Magnetic resonance elastography would be useful method that is used to diagnose exactly liver fibrosis stages in the 3.0T.
