  • As a society gets digitalized, world of simulation will expand. The world of simulation is a forced, human-making world where we are going on our lives. It is power that dominates human beings. It is a main discourse producing forces. We are using violence to ourselves to escape this forcing phenomenon. Cindy Sherman is being paid attention as an artist who expresses physical human being in the world of simulation - human who desires something, is sacrificed by violence and is using violence to himself. She is casting a question about the violence of power in the world - who are you right now in the border between the real world and the fake one? - Her method is by various symbols: masks and makeup in her works, human desires and violent realities in symbolic packages. Only when we see the world as flesh, that is a specific body, not as separated organs, can this world be something we can feel. This world is something simulacre and at the same time is bearing violence in it. She sacrifices herself to violence to avoid the very violence. This behavior is to refine or avoid gigantic violence. She is saying that the others' pains, birth and death of flowers are not only theirs but also ours.

  • Waterline extraction is the one of widely used methods for studying changes in tidal flat environment and coastlines using multi-temporal optical images such as Landsat TM and Landsat ETM+. High dynamics of tidal currents and land reclamation which accelerate sedimentation and/or erosion cause waterline change in tidal flats. The amount of sediment deposited or eroded can be evaluated by precisely estimating waterline changes in tidal flats. The objective of this study is to detect the change of waterlines during 17 years and analyze the trends of erosion and sedimentation in the study areas. The Ganghwado tidal flat on the west coast of the Korean Peninsula was selected. The study area is famous for high dynamics of tidal currents and vast tidal flats. Land reclamation which has been carried out on a large scale is also considered as one of elements that have accelerated the environmental changes in this tidal flat. In this study, we acquired 26 waterlines from Landsat TM and Landsat ETM+ images. We extracted the waterline from each satellite image to generate a digital elevation map (DEM) which was used for reference and to compare with the other waterline which was extracted from DEM having a same tide. The result of comparison well depicted the areas of dominant sedimentation and erosion, and general trends of sedimentation and erosion according to sub-regions are also revealed during the investigation time. Results showed that erosion during a decade was dominant at the west of the Southern Ganghwado tidal flat, while sedimentation was dominant at the wide channel between the Southern Ganghwado tidal flat and the Yeongjongdo tidal flat. This area has been commonly affected by high currents and sedimentation energy. Although we were not able to verify the accuracy of the waterline changes, this result clearly showed the waterline change and therefore, the waterline extraction method used in this study has proven as an effective tool for long term tidal change estimation.

  • In this study, tensile tests for 12-${\mu}m$-thick copper thin foils were performed by using the DIC method. The DIC method provided precise stress-strain curves for thin film materials, and a commercial inkjet printer can be simply and effectively used for printing speckle patterns on the specimen of Cu thin films whose surface contrast is too low to apply the DIC method. The mechanical properties of Cu thin foils obtained in this study are as follows: elastic modulus E = 89.2 GPa, 0.2% offset yield stress $S_{0.2%}$= 232.8 MPa, tensile strength $S_u$= 319.2 MPa, elongation at fracture ${\varepsilon}_f$=16.8 %, and Poisson's ratio ${\nu}$= 0.34.

  • With the emergence of laser mapping systems, higher resolution DTM of urban area can be acquired and can be used to generate precise orthoimage. But, when the conventional orthoimage generation methods are applied to the area containing features with height difference such as cliffs, bridges, banks. elevated highways and buildings, they cause problems such as occlusion and double mapping. Therefore, this study proposes a new algorithm by modifying and refining conventional orthoimage generation methods. With this algorithm, areas which have occlusion are detected from the base image using camera orientation parameters and DTM. Also, detected areas are restored using alternative images which does not have occlusion in that area. This study can be distinguished from the other studies in the aspects that the proposed algorithm in this paper doesn't need information on building and that uses DTM data and orientation parameters.

  • This paper propose color assessment method using HSI model to evaluate quantitative quality of mosaic images by aerial digital frame camera. Firstly, we convert RGB color into HSI model and we extract six pixel information of S and I corresponding to H from adjacency image by using HSI model. Secondly, a method to measure similarity and contrast is proposed and performed for assesment of observation regarding adjacency images. Through these procedure, we could generate four parameters. We could observe that both of the evaluation results by proposed method and the evaluation results by visual were almost similar. This facts support that our method based on several formula can be an objective method to evaluate a quality of mosaic images itself.

  • As on-line purchases is activated, customers' demand increases for the realistic and accurate digital information of a product design. In this paper, we propose a practical method that can generate a realistic 3D model of a real product using a 3D geometry obtained by a 3D scanner and its photographic images. In order to register images to the 3D geometry, the camera focal length, the CCD scanning aspect ratio and the transformation matrix between the camera coordinate and the 3D object coordinate must be determined. To perform this 2D-3D registration with consideration of computational complexity, a three-step method is applied, which consists of camera calibration, determination of a temporary optimum translation vector (TOTV) and nonlinear optimization for three rotational angles. A case study for a metallic coated industrial part, of which the colour appearance is hardly obtained by a 3D colour scanner has performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
