Design of Doppler-Frequency Tracking System based on the Optimum Synchronization Techniques for the Digital Satellite Communication System (최적 동기방식에 의한 디지틀 위성통신 시스템의 도플러 위상 추적 장치 설계)

  • This paper proposes the Doppler frequency tracking system by the optimum synchronization technique which compensates the frequency shifts caused by satellite movement in a coherent digital satellite communication system. A Doppler frequency shift caused by satellite movements and the design theories of the optimum synchronization system are mathematically described. Based on this theory, a Doppler frequency tracking system is implemented via digital signal processing techniques utilizing a DSP chip, RAMs, PROMs, and a 80286 microprocessor. The performance of the designed system was evaluated through the experiments with the INTELSATVA satellite.

  • An integrated command system is critical for the safety of firefighters and effective work in the headquarters of a special disaster areas such as natural disaster or large man-made hazard. The integrated command system requires environmental information such as temperature, humidity, and $CO_2$ levels, as well as personal physical information such as pulse and air respirator levels. An Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) chip converts sensed information into digital signals, and a Micro Controller Unit (MCU) transmits the digital signals to a transmission board using serial communication through a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The digital signals are saved in a transmission board and transmitted to the integrated command system by a Radio Frequency (RF) unit. The location of fire-fighters in a building are determined using a gyro sensor and an inertial sensor. The collected information is applied to the integrated command system for firefighter safety and to ensure that they can effectively carry out their duties. Tthis study theoretically and experimentally investigated the technologies of RF transmission, indoor position, and an integrated command system that supports decision making using the transmitted information.

Performance Enhancement of Underwater Acoustic Communication System Using Hydrophone Transmit Array (하이드로폰 송신 어레이를 이용한 수중 음향 통신 시스템의 성능 향상)

  • In this paper we applied a transmit beamforming technique to the underwater acoustic communication system for high rate data transmission. A prototype transmit system was designed and implemented with the general purpose DSP processor and multiple digital-to-analog converters. The performances of the implemented system were evaluated by the experiment in water tank. In order to simplify the procedure the channel coding and equalizer were omitted. And the simplest OOK (On-Off Keying) technique in digital communication methods was applied. The experimental result shows that the transmission data rate is higher about 3 times in the case of 5 hydrophone transmitting may than 1 hydrophone transmitter at bit error rate 10/sup -2/. We verified that the maximum data rate was 400 bps for speech signal transmission in water tank.

  • We developed a method of accelerating the operation speed of communication systems for SDR(Software Defined Radio) systems in WiBro environment. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of using GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) for implementing the communication system which perform with the functionality of SDR. In general, communication systems is made by DSP(Digital Signalling Processor) or FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). However, in this case, there are exist the problem of implementation and debugging caused by each CPU characteristic. The GPU is optimized for vector processing because it usually consists of multiple processors and each processor in GPU is composed of a set of threads. We also developed Framework to use GPU and CPU resources effectively for reducing the operation time. From the various simulation, it is confirmed that GPU system have good performance in WiBro system.

  • In this paper, the dual band VCO of mobile communication terminal using oscillation part switching circuit is proposed. In order to model the VCO accurately, the resonator is converted the equivalent circuit which is analyzed to use numerical method and designed optimal the dual band VCO operating GSM and DCS band. In order to demonstrate the objective theory of the proposed VCO, the dual band VCO is designed and experimented. The results of experiment, it is conformed that the VCO can be used mobile communication hand phone and components of three generation mobile communication systems.

  • The smart grid is an intelligent electric power network in which a digital communication network is integrated into the existing electric power system. This enhances the efficiency of the electric use by supplying and controlling the electric power through the two-way communication between the utility and the electric customer. In this paper, to support the smart grid, a computer-based solution which collects the three-phase electric power data based on the LPT Communication is designed, and then its prototype is made.

  • In this paper, we present an interactive data broadcasting system compliant with the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) standards. The proposed system provides users not only with various data broadcasting services but also remote interactive services. For various data broadcasting services, we have adopted a synchronized data injector that calculates the transmission time of synchronized data accurately and multiplexes synchronized data with the data of an MPEG-2 audio-visual program according to the calculated transmission time. To support remote interactive services, we designed and implemented a return channel server connected on a bi-directional interaction channel. Test results show that the proposed system provides both an asynchronous and synchronized data broadcasting service and remote interactive service appropriately.

  • Recently, with the development of information and communication technology, digital pay-TV technology is paid attention. So the Protection of the provided contents is becoming more important. However, in order to encourage an active based on digital TV, the contents and information sent and received respectively by the broadcaster and the subscriber must be protected. Therefore, in this paper, I analyze the requirements to protect the digital contents, the security and efficiency of the previous digital pay-TV system model. Then I proposed a key management model for digital pay-TV system.

For the replacement of current 16 bit analog/digital converter, Digital datalogger system using 24 bit analog/digital converter is studied for the first time with in a country. Therefore data communication method and analyzing program of automatic measurement data is developed for the automatic high accuracy digital datalogge system. The results of this study will be using real time automatic incline measurement of railway structures.
