  • The uniform metal droplet generation using Nd-YAG laser was studied and experiment was carried out. The shape and volume of developed droplet was measured and the Young-Laplace equation and equilibrium condition of force were applied this model. The differential equation predicting shape of droplet using equilibrium condition of force instead of Navier-stokes equation was induced and numerical solution of differential equation compared with experimentation data. The differential equation was solved by Runge-Kutta method. Surface tension coefficient of droplet was determined with numerical solution relate to experimental result under the statical condition. In case of dynamic vibration, metal droplet shape and detaching critical volume are predicted by recalculating proposed model. The result revealed that this model could reasonably describe the behavior of molten metal droplet on vibration.

  • In order to perform the spatial buckling analysis of the curved beam element with nonsymmetric thin-walled cross section, exact static stiffness matrices are evaluated using equilibrium equations and force-deformation relations. Contrary to evaluation procedures of dynamic stiffness matrices, 14 displacement parameters are introduced when transforming the four order simultaneous differential equations to the first order differential equations and 2 displacement parameters among these displacements are integrated in advance. Thus non-homogeneous simultaneous differential equations are obtained with respect to the remaining 8 displacement parameters. For general solution of these equations, the method of undetermined parameters is applied and a generalized linear eigenvalue problem and a system of linear algebraic equations with complex matrices are solved with respect to 12 displacement parameters. Resultantly displacement functions are exactly derived and exact static stiffness matrices are determined using member force-displacement relations. The buckling loads are evaluated and compared with analytic solutions or results by ABAQUS's shell element.

  • The well-known Vlasov-Poisson equation describes plasma physics as nonlinear first-order partial differential equations. Because of the nonlinear condition from the self consistency of the Vlasov-Poisson equation, many problems occur: the existence, the numerical solution, the convergence of the numerical solution, and so on. To solve the problems, a viscosity term (a second-order partial differential equation) is added. In a viscosity term, the Vlasov-Poisson equation changes into a parabolic equation like the Fokker-Planck equation. Therefore, the Schauder fixed point theorem and the classical results on parabolic equations can be used for analyzing the Vlasov-Poisson equation. The sequence and the convergence results are obtained from linearizing the Vlasove-Poisson equation by using a fixed point theorem and Gronwall's inequality. In numerical experiments, an implicit first-order scheme is used. The numerical results are tested using the changed viscosity terms.

  • Differential equations governing dynamic behavior of toroid-shaped ferro-magnetic material having a small gap of uniform width were derived incorporating Maxwell equations of electromagnetic induction relevent to the system and Newtonian equation of motion. Once the external uniform magnetic field was applied within the material through dc-circuit around the toroid, gap begin to change which lead to the abrupt variation of field in the material and gap according to the differential equations already derived. Characteristics of current and electromotive force with respect to time in the circuit consisting of inductance and resistance in series could be predicted from numerical solutions of these equations. As current in the circuit increasesl, magnetic field in the material increases, thus, the gap starts to shrink due to increased attractive force between gap and elastic restoring force in the material. With an appropriate selection of elastic constant of toroidal ferromagnetic material and design of gap structure it is possible to obtain the specified in both linear and nonlinear magnetic characteristics, such as current dependent and independent inductance.

  • The differential gear system is a device designed to distribute the driving force of both vehicle wheels and control the rotational speed when the vehicle turns on a curve. The differential device consists of a differential gear case, a ring gear, and a pressure ring. A differential pinion gear and side gear are mounted on the differential pinion shaft inside the differential gear case. In this study, a pin press-fitting device that mounts the pinier gear and side gear to the differential pinion shaft in the differential gear case was designed, and a jig device for pin press-fitting using servo press was developed. In addition, by precisely measuring the pin press-in load and press-in distance according to the pin hole diameter of the differential gear shaft, the optimization of the pin pressin process was established.

  • This study investigates the effect of the outrigger wall reinforced with post-tension on reducing differential column shortening. Since the outrigger wall is a concrete structure, the effect of its long-term behavior should be considered. The long-term behavior of the outrigger wall increases differential column shortening and decreases the shear force acting on the outrigger. When the stiffness of the outrigger becomes small, the effect of its long-term behavior increases. Furthermore, a method of reinforcing with post-tension to reduce differential column shortening is proposed. Following the analysis, it was confirmed that the post-tension method shows a significant reduction in the differential column shortening. This study shows that the effect of the outrigger wall reinforced with post-tension on reducing differential column shortening increases with the prestressing force of tendon.

  • In this study, the Differential Transform Method (DTM) is employed in order to solve the governing differential equation of a moving Bernoulli-Euler beam with axial force effect and investigate its free flexural vibration characteristics. The free vibration analysis of a moving Bernoulli-Euler beam using DTM has not been investigated by any of the studies in open literature so far. At first, the terms are found directly from the analytical solution of the differential equation that describes the deformations of the cross-section according to Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. After the analytical solution, an efficient and easy mathematical technique called DTM is used to solve the differential equation of the motion. The calculated natural frequencies of the moving beams with various combinations of boundary conditions using DTM are tabulated in several tables and are compared with the results of the analytical solution where a very good agreement is observed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the problem in measuring the differential pressure between the fire area and the neighboring smoke control zone as well as the opening force of a fire door and to present the actual values measured by an objective method. NFSC 501A specifies that the force necessary to open an access door when operating a smoke control system shall be less than 110 N. When the smoke control system does not operate in the space where it is installed, the door opening force can be measured by the test method in KS F 2805. However, when the smoke control system operates, additional opening force is required to overcome the force generated by the differential pressure between the fire area and smoke control room. Therefore, it can be seen that the method proposed by the standard has insufficient reliability. The analog measuring device and digital measuring device showed that the opening forces, $F_a$ and $F_d$, of the fully closed door before the smoke control system were 27.8 N and 27.4 N, respectively. When the door remained open by $5^{\circ}$, the opening forces, $F_a$ and $F_d$, were 33 N and 33.6 N, respectively. When the smoke control system operated and the door was fully closed, the door opening forces, $F_a$ and $F_d$, were 77.6 N and 76.0 N, respectively. Therefore, since the door opening forces are different from the criteria presented by KS F 2805, it is required to review the criteria appropriately.
